Chapter 2:

First Time In a Girl's Room

Immor(t)al Kill

A beautiful nature scenery. No other human in sight but Nir and Rain.

“Where... Is this?” - Nir asks.

-“I think... We’re dead. We died Nir! You killed us!” - Rain replies, panicking.

-“WHAT?! Wait, listen.” He stops talking to think for a moment. “Listen, can you slap me?”

Rain starts walking away.

“Wait, WAIT! Here, I’ll do it myself!” - He says, as he gets his right hand up and slaps himself loudly.

-“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!” - Rain asks, annoyed.

-“Look! I felt that!” - He says as he pinches his face, trying his cheeks and chin, then different parts of his stomach.

“I can feel that. How is it possible we are dead then?”

-“I don’t know. I’m going to the forest over there. I’m starving. I should have the skills to gather some food”.

-“Don’t you see? If you can feel hunger all the more reason why we can’t be dead and there’s no reason to assume that we are”.

-“I’m not talking to you”. She says, walking towards the forest at a high pace.

-“Rain! Wait up!” - He yells, running towards her to match her pace. “I don’t think we should go separate ways”. She doesn’t reply. They keep walking towards the forest.

They walk around vast trees. Rain examines the vegetation, but nothing seems to be realistically edible or safe to attempt. Their few minutes of travel turn to hours as different animals, mostly small and none harmful once encounter them every now and then.

-“If only I had my bow and arrows here...” - Rain complains.

-“I don’t question your archery, but do you think surviving in the forest requires the same skills for hitting a none moving target?” - Rin asks, being overly honest.

-“Oh yea?” - Rain gets mildly annoyed. “Be quiet”. A rabbit-like looking creature, with bear ears and the colors of a kangaroo appears next to a distant tree.

“Look, it seems to be sneaking”. - She says. “Be very quiet, follow me”.

They start sneaking too, progressing slowly towards the rabbit-like creature. It doesn’t notice them. After getting a bit closer, a squirrel-like creature can be seen now that the trees aren’t blocking the view. “Look, the squirrel has rabbit ears, it looks as if they were stolen from that rabbit-roo”. - Rin says, casually naming the unidentifiable creature, trying to make Rain laugh.

She smiles while trying aggressively not to. “Stupid, don’t make me laugh, they will hear us!” - She whispers almost without voice at all, yet what she is trying to say is strangely obvious to Rin.

The rabbit-roo suddenly jumps the squirrel with the rabbit ears, taking it out immediately. It then starts eating it.

“Check this out...” - Rain says, picking up a rock.

She prepares a throw as if participating in a baseball game. She aims for barely a few seconds as they are still quite distant. She then throws with a surprisingly mighty force.

The rock flies like a bullet, hitting the rabbit-roo straight in the head. It gets mostly knocked out and dies pretty quickly.

“What was that about my survival skills?” - Rain asks, grinning as if she’s very pleased with herself.

-“let’s cook them both”. - Rin suggests. “I saw some online survival videos about starting fire, but I’ve never actually...” She cuts him midsentence saying: “No need”.

She turns to her bag, looking for something. Her hand moves around the bag and then she gets it out quickly, holding a lighter.

“Don’t judge me”. - She says.

-“There is no way you smoke”. - Rin claims.

-“Don’t judge me”. - She repeats.

-“No way... You have a lighter in case they smoke, right? People probably offer you to smoke all the time so you offer your lighter instead...”

-“I said ‘DO NOT JUDGE ME’, why must you combat me all the time?!”

-“Are you being serious? Rain, you combat me all the time. Why is it that when I get you back or just try being honest you react as if that is uncalled for”.

-“You can’t really get hints, can you Rin? When I...” - “Shhh, quiet”. - He stops her.

“I heard something. - He explains, getting her attention to the matter.

A soldier appears. Quite distant. Seems to be looking for something. He is only wearing half of his armor, carrying a sword with blood on it. He then falls, passing out. Rin and Rain get closer to see what is going on.

He is bleeding a lot.

They then realize - he is dead.

Behind them appears another soldier, dressed with leather armor. It seems his armor is cheaper and lighter. He approaches them.

“Careful, Rain. Get behind me”. - He says, stepping forward to take the lead.

-“Oh! You killed him! Thank you! Who are you?” - Asks the remaining soldier.

-“We aren’t from here. What is going on? Was he chasing you?” - Rin says.

-“Yes! You saved me!” - He replies, seemingly grateful and genuine about it. “Did you get lost in the forest? Follow me, I’ll take you to my village”.

Rin looks at Rain as if to ask for her opinion. She nods slightly. They follow the soldier to his village.

They get to the nearby village. It is filled with people roaming the streets. One of which appears to be a market area with plenty of trade going on, using a local currency. The men are dressed in a very simple manner, some of them aren’t wearing a shirt. The women are covered by a lot of cloths, it’s harder to see their faces. Most of the houses are small. In some areas they are built really close to each other. In others there is more space in between them. Some of them are even quite large for such a simple looking village.

-“Who are those?” Asks an elderly looking woman, standing in front of them as if appeared out of nowhere.

-“I have no idea, but they saved me”. - Replies the soldier.

-“You are dressed even weirder than the scum from the empire.” - She delivers the sentiment aggressively. “We have no knowledge of different countries, so our only guests are from other nearby villages”.

-“We came from...” - Rain struggles to explain, “...A very far place”.

-“Well, feel free to stay as long as you like”. - The elder suggest.

She then shows them to an empty guest housing. The Soldier already went his own way.

“Are you married?” - She asks them.

-“Wh... No way!” - Rain replies, blushing. Rin blushes too, saying nothing.

-“Well, it’s getting dark. Here is a different place for you to stay if you...” - “Wait!” - Rin suddenly speaks up.

“Rain, I don’t think you should stay alone”.

-“I can take care of myse...” - “Rain! Trust me”. He then whispers to her: “I’ll even sleep on the floor, don’t be rush”.

The elder leaves them be, as they settle in one cabin. It is relatively small and has one bedroom, one toilet they didn’t manage to figure out how to operate, and a main dining room without any kitchen features, that is the entrance to the cabin.

“I have no idea where we are. It’s getting late though. You should get some sleep. Tomorrow we can try figuring out what the hell is going on”.

Rain isn’t sure if she should either clearly permit or forbid him from sleeping on the same bed.

-“Must you really sleep on the floor?” - She asks.

-“You see any other beds?”

-“So... You are going to sleep on the floor...”

-“Yes”. - He replies.

-“Must we really sleep in the same room, then?”

-“Yes”. - He insists.
