Chapter 7:
The Incredible Luck of Billy
Billy still didn’t feel tired, thanks to that strange wish he’d made… but he had no idea that from now on, he would never be tired again.
He thought, Even if I’m not sleepy, I’ll just take a short nap anyway.
Billy lay down, stared at the ceiling for a bit, and then drifted off.
Suddenly, he found himself getting up from his bed except, everything felt a little off, a little too smooth. He looked at the clock, shrugged, and left for Marie’s party.
The evening was vibrant and full of energy. The apartment buzzed with music and laughter. Billy spotted Marie easily her bright smile shone among the crowd.
They danced, laughed, and had an amazing time together. For once, Billy felt completely at ease, almost as if all his worries had vanished.
But then
Billy jolted awake.
He was still in bed. He checked his phone: 8:00 a.m.
“Damn, I fell asleep and missed the party! It was at 8 p.m. last night…”
Panicked and annoyed with himself, he quickly called Marie to apologize.
“Hello?”
“Billy? Hi, how are you?” Marie’s voice was cheerful.
Billy was about to apologize for missing the party when suddenly Marie continued:
“So, not too tired? Yesterday was awesome we had such a great time!”
Billy froze. Wait… what?! Am I losing my mind?
He stammered:
“Uh… no, yesterday I… I fell asleep and didn’t come…”
Marie laughed softly.
“Ah, you must still be drunk! Don’t worry about it.”
Billy had no idea what to say, his mind spinning. Desperate, he mumbled:
“Ah yes… I remember now…”
He quickly hung up, feeling dizzy.
Marie’s voice echoed from the phone:
“Hello? Billy? ...Hello? ...Billy??”
Billy stared at his phone, unable to tell if he was still dreaming, or if reality itself was starting to play tricks on him.
