Chapter 14:
Escaping from my old world was the best decision I could make in my life... right?
We were in the forest looking for the entry of the dungeon, I hit the floor with my foot while the others were looking at the entrance until we met in the middle.
“Have you found anything?” —I asked.
“Not at all, I try to kick, punch, dig, throw and nothing, this dungeon was supposed to be in here, right? Is what the quest said and what the people in town told us” —Alexander said.
“Maybe we are not looking in the right direction, what was the entry like? It was on the floor or like a temple?”
“We didn’t ask that… it may be like a cave, that’s what I feel it would be… no point in getting separated it now, let’s stay together and search for possible entries”
Both Alexander and Elizabeth nodded, and we searched for everything, hitting the ground, hanging on tree branches, and looking around, but we never encountered the entry of the dungeon.
We sat down to eat some food while I was thinking about where the entry would be.
“Try to enjoy the food, Ryu… if you think too hard you won’t be able to feel the flavor, the meat from the guild is delicious!” —Elizabeth said.
“Yeah, how do you think they cook it? I bet they use a good type of salt, onions and a certain type of oil”
“I don’t think they did anything special… but it is perfect, sorry for that, guys”
I kept eating and after resting for almost ten minutes we got up and continued with the exploration. I hit the floor with my sword and this type I heard a different type of noise, the others noticed and Alexander started to dig out until a wooden door showed up.
“This is it!”
I opened the door and could see the stairs.
“Are you ready?... I just noticed, Alex… where is your weapon?”
“Right here”
Alexander punched his fist together and I scratched my head.
“I trust you then, let’s go!”
When we were going down, the light was fainting for each step we took until the moment where we couldn’t see anything, I took out my sword to make some light with the spark until we found a ton of torches in the ground.
Alexander took one of them and lit it up easily with a flint, we lit up with the other two, and we kept going.
The place was small, we could barely fit in it, but the floor and structure weren’t in a bad condition, the floor and walls were exactly as a traditional dungeon, made of rocks, but it was empty for now, when we pass a door, we were stunned by the space that the dungeon really had.
The stairs spiral with a giant hole in the middle, I threw my torch, but it didn’t see the light after a few seconds and I couldn’t hear the sound of the torch on the ground. Instead, I heard a ton of steps approaching us.
One moment we were being raided by spiders. They were not small, they were the size of a soccer ball, the first one caught me off guard but Alexander punched it, it was a very powerful blow, the spider got stuck in the wall at the other side of the stairs. I drew my sword and started slashing spiders while keeping my distance.
For Elizabeth, it was a bit easier thanks to the lance, but some of the spiders dodge her attacks and spin around her spear.
Thankfully, Alexander took them before it could reach her, throwing it to the same wall. I was getting fine until one of the spiders shot her web and my sword got stuck in the ground.
I could see the fangs of the spider and I closed my eyes but I just heard the splash of the fluids of the spider's going out thanks to Alexander who stomped on the spider.
After a few minutes the raid stopped and we breathed heavily for a few minutes.
“Are you two good?”
“Yeah… this was the first time we had to fight against so many… not even the slimes were that much…”
“True… but we managed to defeat them in a couple of minutes… and thanks to you too, Alexander…” —Elizabeth said.
“Thanks! I’m glad I was able to help you out, we should go downstairs”
“Sure, sure, let me just catch my breath…”
“How are you going to catch it?” —Alexander asked.
Elizabeth looked at me in the same way Alexander did and I scratched my head.
“It’s… uh… never mind… forget it…” —I laughed while I took some deep breaths.
We went downstairs after resting for a few minutes. The way down took us at least thirty minutes, but it wasn’t as bad as fighting the spiders. When we reached the end, we found the torch in the ground already lit off, we lit it up again and continued with the exploration.
In this part the spiderweb was seen more often, and there were cocoons, we didn’t want to break them just in case so we went ahead, there was a labyrinth made in this place, a ton of entries that lead to nowhere and then we step inside a room that had the form of a circle with six different entries.
We looked at the ceiling too in case a spider dropped but we couldn’t see anyone, instead of just one, a giant spider but it was already dead.
I took a look at it and I could see the head of the spider crushed, not only that but a lot of parts of its body were hit really badly.
“Who could do this?”
And it seemed like I just timed the things right, I heard a roar coming from one of the doors and from there a figure of at least three meters tall was approaching us with a giant bad, the beast was an ogre, red skin, having only a loincloth covering his bottom half, giant teeth coming out of his mouth and blue eyes.
The moment he saw us he ran towards us.
“SEPARATE, NOW!”
I shouted while we took different paths and I ran, the ogre hit the floor and I was sent flying, I took my sword out and bit my bottom lip thinking about what to do.
Should we abandon this place now? We can leave it to another party but right now, what would the others do?
I looked at Alexander and Elizabeth but both of them were ready to fight, Alexander was already running towards it already, he punched the Ogre and it seemed to have some effect. Elizabeth was the next one to attack and it hit one of the Ogres eyes by throwing her lance.
The ogre took his eyes shouting in pain while doing a disaster with his club, the dungeon was moving a lot, the ogre was big but his hits were something to be terrified of, if one of us was caught by one of his attacks it would be the end.
In the moment of the ogre confusion, I ran towards him and jumped into one of his hands, I swung my sword, but it got stuck in his forearm, I left the sword in there while I threw myself in the ground to avoid any hits.
The ogre took my sword out and threw it behind him, he wasn’t dumb. The moment he recovered, he started to move his club from left to right. Both Elizabeth and I were left with no weapons, there was only one thing I had with me but I wasn’t ready.
But it is now or never
I haven’t learned any spells, but I did manage to control my power, I extended my hand and a giant bubble was forming out, I let out a big shoot of water that made the ogre cover himself, at that moment, Alexander run at the back taking advantage of his bad eye and climb in the back of him and with both of his fits he started to hit the head of the ogre.
He hit it multiple times until the ogre wasn’t able to stand anymore, he let his club fall and with that, we went for the club, took it with the remaining mana that I had we throw it in the air and let it fall from the ceiling to the ogre’s head, we cover ourselves from the splash of blood and sit down.
I looked at my hands shaking and I couldn’t help but smile, this was our first intense battle and we won it, I stood up and put my fist up shouting and our first victory. There were still plenty of things to explore in the dungeon but it seemed that we defeated the main boss, the guardian and now we could keep exploring without any problem.
Once we take plenty of rest, we’ll keep exploring the dungeon
