Chapter 24:

The Fight Against the Orc

The Devourer of Destiny

"Who's that mysterious person?"

Many people were excited by the presence of a challenger in the arena. Seeing his opponent fail to show up, a massive creature entered by climbing over the top of the arena. He didn't use the door, knowing it was too small for him.

"Will that skinny-looking guy be able to fight an Orc?!" one of the spectators exclaimed, then burst into roaring laughter, which was soon joined by others.

Meanwhile, Mahendra stood silently with his fists clenched, wanting to curse inwardly but knowing it wasn't the time. Mahendra turned and tried to open the door, but it was intentionally blocked from the outside, a clear sign that he couldn't leave until the fight was over.

"My life's trials are truly a dance with death."

Cheers from all sides echoed throughout the large room. Men and women alike seemed entertained, imagining the skinny guy (Mahendra) would be finished off in an instant.

No one supported him except for a golden-eyed girl who just laughed from a distance, as if enjoying the show.

Mahendra took a deep breath and adjusted his hood to make sure it wouldn't come off. He made sure his face and eyes were completely covered, as this wasn't the time to show off in front of them.

"I bet his face is super ugly."

"It'll be even uglier after he gets beaten up!"It was obvious those weren't compliments.

"Just get started!" the Orc roared, taking a proper fighting stance. He planted his feet firmly, clenched his fists in front of his face, and prepared to attack.

"An Orc who knows how to box? Wow, I didn't expect this," Mahendra said, genuinely impressed.

Most large creatures would have slow movements. However, that didn't seem to apply to the Orc race that was his opponent. He moved so fast that in the blink of an eye, he was right in front of him.

"Oh, my God!" Mahendra quickly dodged a punch from the right, but the blow actually came from the left.

Deceived by the Orc's large hands, Mahendra was pushed back and crashed into the iron wire fence. Before he could catch his breath, his opponent took the opportunity to attack again.

"I'll get back at that guy!" Mahendra shouted, hurrying to run from the deadly punch.

The Orc's punch looked like an iron blow, the very thick iron wires were instantly deformed by his savage strike. If Mahendra hadn't dodged, he would have been down and out.

Meanwhile, the tavern owner was enjoying the fight from a high chair. He seemed to be having a great time, laughing out loud. It appeared he had intended to do this to the newcomer all along.

"Haha, look at the way he runs. So agile. Maybe he's a fighter? Or just nimble like a rabbit?"

The cheers of the spectators grew louder. Some insulted Mahendra for being a coward, while others praised the Orc, hoping he would end the fight.

Running wasn't a permanent solution, so Mahendra changed his cowardly strategy. He stopped running abruptly, turned, and threw a low punch at his opponent's stomach. However, instead of the opponent feeling pain, Mahendra was the one who was hurt.

"Argh... his body is so hard." Mahendra pulled his hand back and shook it, hoping the pain would subside.

"Haha! Your punch is like a mosquito bite. No power, so pathetic!"

"Well... I know that."

He kept his distance, maintaining a safe distance. Unfortunately, the large creature had no intention of giving him time to think. He attacked blindly again, while Mahendra desperately dodged.

The arena floor, which was hit by several of his punches, sustained significant damage, but it returned to its original form as if the Orc's attacks couldn't do anything to it.

"A normal human would be knocked out by one of my punches, but he's a hard-skinned creature. Annoying."

Pulling his right leg back, he then took an emerald dagger from inside his black cloak. The dagger's handle, which wasn't too thick or round, fit perfectly in his grip. Mahendra leaned his body forward slightly.

"Just a knife? You're really underestimating me!"

The smooth floor helped him accelerate his steps. He shot forward like the wind, charging ahead without hesitation with the dagger in his hand. Thinking Mahendra would attack, he instead disappeared and then suddenly reappeared from behind the Orc's back, injuring him with dozens of slashes in one swift motion.

"Tricky moves work on you too. I didn't expect it, but thanks to you... I have this idea," said Mahendra, who was very satisfied with knocking him down.

The dagger with the emerald gem on it was incredibly sharp. Mahendra was initially hesitant to use it, but he had no other choice as it was too risky to use magic in this place.

While everyone was stunned by the beautiful and deadly attack, someone seemed to recognize the emerald dagger. He was silent for a moment, making sure the dagger was what he suspected, then he sighed and sat down.

"Isn't that a dagger made from the root of a thousand-year-old tree? I'm sure only the Elven race can make and use it," the tavern owner thought.

A woman with two protruding fangs came and helped him put on a light-colored jacket while clearing her throat, her gaze momentarily fixed on the fight.

"Is he from the Elven race? I heard they're born beautiful and handsome, I'm curious about his face."

"Huh... could be. I just didn't expect us to have an Elven guest. Is he really a sinner?"

"Sir, races born of nature, especially elves, are supposed to have pure souls, but that doesn't mean there are no creatures without sin. Am I right?"

"That makes sense."

It seemed they thought Mahendra was an Elf based solely on his emerald weapon, which was actually a gift from Uru.

In the end, Mahendra's first fight went quite smoothly, even though some parts of his body still felt sore from the Orc's punches. However, his experience had grown. Besides wild monsters, humans, elves, or high-ranking magician he had fought before, he could now defeat an Orc, even if it was just with this dagger.

"I feel like this isn't enough. Is it because I didn't use magic when fighting him, so I'm not satisfied?" Mahendra muttered.

Ancient magic was now fully under his control. Thanks to this physical brawl with the Orc, he felt very grateful and bowed his head slightly while clasping his hands together as a sign of respect.

"The Elven race isn't entirely pure. With that emerald dagger in his hand, he might be a remnant of the Dark Elf race that our ancestors once told us about," the tavern owner stated.

"Dark Elf? Ha... if that's true, it would be incredible."

"Yes, but it's still not enough proof. It's better to observe him for a few days and don't let him meet the ancestor."

"Alright, Sir."

The tavern owner began to mark Mahendra. He wouldn't stop digging into his identity until he was completely satisfied.

Mahendra had achieved victory. However, it seemed the girl had disappeared again. Not just the girl, but even the tavern owner was nowhere to be seen. Mahendra, who was still angry about the man's treatment, certainly wouldn't forget it so easily.
