Chapter 28:
The Noble Demon King
Violet immediately demonstrated his other magic.
For example, there was "Awakening," which made one feel like a mosquito was constantly buzzing in their ear; "Greasy," which made one's hands feel like they had just handled a greasy roasted chicken leg; and "Grit," which made one feel like there was something in their shoe.
To prove that he wasn't limited to such illusion-like magic, he also showcased his so-called elemental magic.
For instance, a spell he named "High Heat Ray" produced a gentle breeze with a precise temperature of 37.5°C, lasting for about half a second.
The corresponding "Bone-Chilling Cold" lowered the wind's temperature to 26°C... the same temperature Caelan used to set his air conditioner to.
Then, in the middle of his confident attempt to magically clean the dining area, Caelan stopped him.
He was holding a rag and drawing a magic circle in a basin of water, claiming that this spell would "only" require an hour of casting to clean "a full square meter" of flat surface.
Caelan chose a broom; it was lighter, more convenient, and faster.
It was too late to send him away, so Caelan let him stay in the castle for a night, but he was gone early the next morning.
He also left a note saying he couldn't stay for free, but his money had been taken by his former teammates, so he was going to town to earn some money to pay him back.
Although Caelan had originally planned to have him work in lieu of payment for his accommodation, he was still surprised by such an unconventional idea.
But it was only for a moment, as there was still important business today... digging up potatoes.
A mu of potato land, roughly twenty-five meters in both length and width, was already densely covered with green potato sprouts.
Some of it had already been dug up; Tina had dug it yesterday with Fat Tiger and Fu, but since none of them had much experience, the efficiency wasn't very high.
Caelan didn't have much experience either; it was just that his family had a field in his previous life, and he had planted many things with his family, but after growing up and moving to the city, he hadn't touched soil again.
He never expected to make a detour and end up farming in another world.
He released two teams of ten Kobolds in total, responsible for digging up all the soil with their claws, while he and Tina only needed to sort the leaves and potatoes, putting them into different baskets, and then having Fat Tiger and Fu work together to transport them to the warehouse on the lower level of the castle.
That place was originally supposed to be a Prison, but ever since Caelan discovered it was cold and dry, he converted it into a warehouse.
Although Caelan was accustomed to calling them potatoes, these only looked similar to the potatoes from his original world; they weren't the same thing—they were larger, greenish in color, and tasted slightly bitter, but they were edible.
The potato leaves were not wasted; Caelan planned to use them as Chocobo feed when there was no better alternative.
On the other side, in the castle's underground planting area, Caelan also expanded the cultivation of mushrooms, directly increasing the scale tenfold.
That area was originally estimated to be an underground barracks or something similar; now it had all been cleaned up, and stacks of wood were piled up as cultivation bases for different varieties of mushrooms.
Because of the wide variety and the fact that some were poisonous, Caelan personally took charge of this section.
If he left it to the Kobolds, there was no guarantee that one of them wouldn't accidentally poison himself while secretly eating.
Then, the herb garden in the courtyard was also in the process of expansion; that part was Tina's responsibility, and Caelan even specifically assigned her a pair of Kobolds to assist her.
Tina had no prior planting experience and was essentially starting from scratch; Caelan had originally thought he might frequently need to help out, but he never expected this female knight's unyielding personality; she repeatedly tore down and rebuilt anything that wasn't done well, and as a result, she made it look quite decent.
It was just that her perpetually dusty appearance somewhat ruined her image.
During his remaining free time, Caelan was researching magic.
It was real magic, not something crooked like summoning spells.
Ever since he discovered that different monster individuals had different talents, he had always wanted to cultivate a monster with extraordinary talent, but collecting and checking them one by one would be too time-consuming, and if they were gregarious, and he couldn't tell which one had talent beforehand, he might accidentally let the needed one escape or kill it.
At such times, one spell was very useful.
Insight
The effect of this spell, simply put, was to see others' attributes... which was what Caelan could only see after adding a monster to his bestiary.
It was also because he feared this that Caelan had not dared to leave the castle before.
After all, in the description, this was a very basic spell; if learning magic was compared to attending school, it would probably be at the first-grade level of elementary school.
Beyond that, it was just the study of basic magic theory.
So, if Caelan wanted to start learning magic, this was also a very suitable beginning.
However, Caelan's current progress... he was struggling with kindergarten literacy, and learning his first spell was still a long way off.
Another matter, however, could be put on the agenda.
—Strengthening the existing combat power.
