Chapter 22:

Chapter 22: The Lord’s Lunch?

Beta Test? We got more than we bargained for in our game’s beta test.

of the house staff and set in front of each member present at the table, along with the lord of the city and the members of the Shin’ya guild sat another. A girl that looked the spitting image of Lord Connor Leon Seolfor the Fourth was also present at the table for the lunch.

“Ah, before you tell me the stories of your past journeys and why you seem to think this grand quest of mine will be of use to solving whatever problem you have encountered. I must introduce my younger sister and the only other living member of the Seolfor family, Lucy Seolfor. And we take our surname from the city not the other way around if you were wondering, I believe the meaning is a bank of silver near a shallow river crossing which now make no such sense as the river is long gone as you may have seen from the dry valley you walked through to even get here. Also don’t worry about us our parents both died of old age not from any accident or assassination. But that is quite enough about me and my family I can get carried away, let us talk about you and why my grand quest you think will be of aid to your situation.”
“Well I suppose you don’t know, but we are otherworlders. We were summoned by an unknown force around a week or so ago and we’re trying to find a way to get home, as we believe this world to be the one of the game that we have been creating over the last several months. Therefore, if we complete the main story quests and complete the game then we should be sent back home again.”
“I see. Well, that would also explain how a party of such strong members has found themselves here. Ilev I am sure you may know but there are legends around those who come from other worlds, those legends say they possess great powers far beyond what we could ever imagine. And if what you say is true then you certainly do have these mythical powers that the legends speak of being able to speak of creating entire worlds so easily is not something that anyone born of this land could hope to ever be able to accomplish.”
“You flatter us but even in our world it takes many people many months of hard work and long nights to be able to produce a new world for others to enjoy once it has been completed. Our creation is miniscule compared to some of the other created worlds that we have been witness to.”
“I see, well your world is the world of gods then. I can see it being no other way, and I can understand why you would want to return home both for that reason and the simpler one of wanting to be able to sleep within your own bed once again, a feeling I know too well from trips to neighbouring lands.”
“Brother, why must we entertain such guests and give out such quests? These people are beneath us in social standing being only lowly adventurers, and even if they do come from another world like they claim it is inconceivable that they would hold a higher social standing than us there. One is even barefoot brother why let such peasants into our grand manor to eat our food and dirty the place with their peasantry?”
“Dear sister you know you cannot speak to the guests this way, it is incredibly rude. Afterall if it were not for adventurers and guilds like these people we would not be able to live in such comfort, they are the ones who go out to fight the monsters and to protect our city and lands. If you are going to sit here and be rude to my guests, then I must ask you to take your lunch and eat it elsewhere in the house. And the barefoot one is Lexa, she is an S-rank mage wielding the entire school of Nature as her magic.”
“Well that is part of the truth, I can also wield Void magic after an accident in the nearby forest. While defending my friends here I was injured badly by some void beasts and barely survived the overload it caused.”
“Lexa you are more and more amazing by the second. If you were not attempting to find your way home alongside your friends I would ask your hand in marriage this instant, but I will not as that would not be fair to you as you have a conviction much stronger than wanting to rule over a meagre city and its surrounding land.”
“Brother you must be joking you would marry the one that looks the most like a tramp out of the lot of these peasants? Whatever happened to you? And Witch release my brother from whatever dark spell you have placed upon him this instant or I shall be forced to call the guard to remove you and imprison you for corrupting the lord of the city and a member of the distinguished Seolfor family.”
“Ilev I sense hostility from this one.”
“Yeah. I get that feeling too Lexa.”
“Lexa, what have you done? I know that I missed a tiny bit after getting injured but surely not that much.”
“Suieol I’ve done nothing wrong. I just learnt how to magic and had that teeny tiny accident in the woods. I’ve got no ability that seduces men. If anyone had that it’d be Lekly.”
“Hey! Don’t rope me into this.”
“Everyone that is quite enough! Lucy Seolfor leave this room! Take the remainer of your lunch with you and eat elsewhere. We will talk at length about your conduct towards those who I invite into this manor once I have seen our guests out with what I promised them for taking on the quest itself. Do not make that face nor try to make a retort I am finished with this matter until later on.”

After Lucy leaves the room Connor returns his focus to the members of the Shin’ya guild.

“I profusely apologies for my sisters unseemly conduct she has a rather bad case of noble syndrome; our parents coddled her quite a lot as a child and that has continued into her current age unfortunately. Back to what I promised for you in the reception room, I have only got two keys prepared for the house I wish to give to you, but I have informed the best key smith in the city to deliver five more to the house in due time. As for the capital I promised for you, I have been able to collect enough for each of you to purchase any equipment you may need from the best stores in the city. Of course there are some who oppose my decision, but the majority historically support the lords’ choices when the grand quest is being handed out, so do not worry about facing animosity from other adventuring groups as all who say you yesterday were at the gates or writing letters to get my attention about your arrival. Now I must be away to deal with some other matters I will have a member of the house staff guide you to your new guild house. It was a pleasure to meet you, and I hope I can see you again soon.”

With that the lord leave the dining room and a member of house staff appears for when the party is ready to leave for their new home.
