Chapter 8:
The Human Girl Entwined with the Doll
Once they returned from Elizabeth's demolition site, Veronica clutched her doll close and said, "I love you so much."
Then she heard the voice of her mom, "Veronica, darling, see who has arrived."
Veronica glared down the stairs and saw Sebastian descending the stairs.
"Mom, why has he arrived?" Veronica scowled. "You know I do not like him. He always irritates me so."
"Sweetheart, that was a long time ago. Sebastian's grown up now," her mom said softly.
"But Mom…" Veronica began to complain.
"No, sweetie. Play with him. Show off your adorable doll," answered her mom with a smile.
Veronica let out a sigh but consented. "Okay, follow me," she said, taking Sebastian upstairs.
The instant that they were alone upstairs, Sebastian turned to her and asked, "Did you call him?"
"No, not yet," replied Veronica.
Sebastian pulled out his phone and growled, "Well, he texted me back."
Veronica stared at him. "He said he dislikes you. That I am incompatible with her."
"What?" Veronica exploded, grabbing Sebastian's hair with fury. "He'll never say that!"
"How dare you speak of him in that manner, Sebastian?" I will kill you she commanded.
Sebastian showed mockery. "You'll kill me? You can't even kill a mosquito, you will kill me."
Veronica's temper got the better of her. She opened her mouth, shouted at the top of her lungs, and whipped out a knife! Sebastian's smirking smile fell when he noticed fire in her eyes.
"Hey! Hey! What are you doing darling?" Sebastian stuttered nervously.
"How dare you use the word 'darling' after what you said." Veronica's voice was icy.
She punched his arm before he could move out of the way. He yelped in pain, and then she pinched his tongue with all her might.
"Ahhhhhh!" Sebastian yelled, grabbing his mouth.
Veronica hugged him, put her hand on his chest, and said, "Bye-bye."
Instaantly, his body vanished.
Later, Veronica walked down into the living room. Her mother was on the couch watching TV.
"Where is Sebastian?" her mother asked.
"I don't know. He had gone down to the downstairs, but I did not see," Veronica replied.
They watched the news together. The news anchor announced that a body was discovered beneath the lake.
The camera zoomed in close, and they could view the body — it was Sebastian.
Veronica's mom let out a gasp and began weeping. "How? Why?" she cried, then rushed outside.
Veronica sat by herself, holding her doll. "Now Sebastian will never utter such words again," she spoke softly.
She reclined again on the couch and brought the TV back to life, attempting to compose herself.
