Chapter 90:

Episode 90 - The Sasaki Family Is Mine – Ryoko’s Resolve

My Telekinetic Office Lady Girlfriend Is Way Too Powerful!

【Nice to Meet You, Mr. and Mrs. Sasaki (and Ryoko’s Special Skill)】

When the sliding door to the living room opened quietly, the two seated on the tatami looked up.

Shota’s father, Iwao sasaki, had a solid build and sharp brows, though today his expression was slightly stiff. His mother, Shizuko sasaki, wore a gentle smile, the very image of a “Japanese family’s mother.”

“...Nice to meet you. My name is Ryoko Takahashi.”

Though nervous, Ryoko straightened her back and bowed politely.

The phrase she had practiced over and over. Yet now that it was real, her heart was thump-thump (heartbeat) all over again.

“Thank you for taking the time to see me today. I’ve been thinking seriously about my future with Shota-san… and today, I’ve come to greet you.”

With her head still lowered, Ryoko prayed silently, Please, let me not be sweating weirdly.

Iwao gave a quiet nod and said only:

“Thanks for coming all this way.”

That was all. But those words made Ryoko feel just a little relieved.

Shizuko immediately stood, bringing out tea as she spoke to Ryoko.

“Ryoko-san, please, make yourself comfortable. It must have been hot, wasn’t it?”

“N-No, thank you very much…!”

On the low table sat steaming green tea and a plate of assorted wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets).

Ryoko sat kneeling on her heels in the traditional seiza posture and reached for the teacup with both hands—at that moment—

(Ah…)

It was pure reflex.

Her gaze fell on the teacup, and it floated smoothly into the air, rising toward her mouth—

“Ah.”

Freeze.

The air seemed to stop.

Ryoko hastily caught the cup in her hands again, masking it with a big smile, but it was already too late.

Iwao and Shizuko blinked in surprise.

Shota froze for a second, then quickly jumped in with a smile.

“Uh, um, Senpai— I mean, Ryoko has had this special skill since way back.”

“Yup yup!” Yumi jumped in without missing a beat.

“She can drink tea without using her hands! Kind of a quirky trick, but super handy!”

Ryoko: “…Y-Yes♡ Just a little, ahaha, office party trick… ehehe…”

Iwao: “Hmmm.”

Shizuko: “…Oh my, but that’s amazing! Carrying tea without spilling it—how useful.”

Iwao: “Yeah, you'd be popular if you worked at a ryokan(a Japanese-style inn where parties often take place). I once won first place eating something without using my hands, too.”

Ryoko: “...(Wait, what!? Mr. Sasaki has telekinesis too!?)”

Shizuko: “That was the bread-eating race, dear — a school sports day game where you snatch a hanging bread roll with your mouth. Not useful at all.”

Ryoko: “…”

Yumi: “Man, I’d love to learn that trick too♪”

Ren: “I wanna make my toys float too!”

Shota: (Seriously, my family’s a bit off but way too tolerant of supernatural stuff…)

Normally, someone would be shocked or wary. But in this house, no one denied it. The fact they accepted it so naturally quietly moved Ryoko.

(Ah… These people… even if they knew everything about me, surely…)

Ryoko gently etched into her heart the Sasaki family’s strength and kindness that could accept even the supernatural.

【The Father’s Silence, and the Mountain Memory】

“Phew…”

Wrapping her hands around the teacup, Ryoko let out a small breath.

Even though she’d somehow gotten through the “floating tea incident” thanks to Shota and Yumi, her heartbeat was still high.

But then—

She glanced sideways and noticed. Iwao had been quietly silent the whole time. Ever since the first greeting, he had hardly spoken.

He didn’t react to the tea incident, nor join in small talk—just sat there, gazing somewhere far away.

(…Huh? He seems… tired?)

Not wanting to make him self-conscious, she gave Shota a discreet look, but he only tilted his head slightly.

Later, when Ren went outside with Yumi, Ryoko decided to ask Shizuko.

“Um… Shizuko-san, is Mr. Sasaki… feeling a little unwell today?”

Shizuko looked a bit surprised, then gave a small smile.

“As expected, you noticed, Ryoko-san.”

Lowering her voice slightly:

“The truth is, lately my husband… has been feeling down about work-related matters.”

“Work…?” Shota reacted.

“You remember the mountain forest behind this house? You used to play there as a kid, Shota—calling something the ‘secret herb’… I think it was called Sonokata-shiro?”

“Oh, yeah. Dad used to tell me to boil it into tea whenever I caught a cold.”

“That’s right… especially since you were weak as a child and often had fevers, there was a time you drank it almost daily. That Sonokata-shiro only grows on that mountain. Our Sasaki family has protected it for generations… but recently, people from Sunrise Global Trading have taken interest in the mountain. Under the pretense of ‘corporate resource management,’ they’ve been asking to buy the land.”

Ryoko gasped.

“No way… Sunrise Global Trading?”

Shizuko lowered her gaze apologetically.

“My husband refused. He’s always said that mountain is the pride of the Sasaki family. But… now Sunrise Global Trading is lobbying the neighborhood association under the name of ‘regional development,’ pressuring them by saying ‘Refusing to sell is holding back the community’s growth.’ Every night, he’s been agonizing over it.”

Iwao was now looking toward the veranda, slowly taking in the garden view.

But on his back was the loneliness of a man who might not be able to protect his mountain.

Watching him, Ryoko felt something click into place deep in her chest.

(…The ones threatening the Sasaki family… are from my company?)

Something began to bubble up inside her.

(Wait a minute…)

(The Sasaki family is already mine… so what the hell is my company doing?)

In that instant, the depths of Ryoko’s eyes glimmered faintly red.

It was subtle enough for no one to notice.

But it was proof she had flipped her switch.

(…Fufu♡ Before the wedding, I’ll twist the company’s policy into the shape I want—like bending a spoon♡)

Beside Shota, Ryoko smiled softly.

But that smile was no longer just that of a “cute bride-to-be.”
