Chapter 6:

Molten fists vs The Guardian axe

Reborn nephilim

(previous chapter - Gauge was abducted by the gatekeeper and Var manages to save Gauge with his abilities, now Gauge takes over the battle revealing his powers - arms of white magma; Read chapter 5 for more details)

Gauge's arm collides with the axe, but his arms weren't even scratched thanks to the hardening effect of the white ember flow in his arms, he quickly taps the axe with his other hand, and goes for the gatekeeper's face,

When suddenly the axe which was knocked back, instantly materialized next to Gauge. He barely blocks it with his arms, but the impact knocks him sideways.

Var shouts from a distance , "What do you plan to do? Do you have plan or are you gonna blindly charge at him?"

Gauge shook off the impact —blocking the last blow drained his smoulder. Regenerating the emberflow, he rose to his feet, ready to respond.

"Just one hit, I ll finish him in just one hit, I just gotta improvise a plan."

Var hears this and is disappointed. He thinks to himself,

"Kids these days, charging into battle without even planning to breathe."

He places his hands on the ground,

"Blood origami: binding ropes"

He yells as a series of ropes made of blood pierce through the ground and appear near the gatekeeper to bind him, but the keeper senses this and ignites himself with the gate energy, burning the ropes back to blood...Var was frustrated,

"Well I am kinda helpless now, that's basically the only thing I can do."

As he laughs ackwardly, Gauge launches himself again. This time he goes straight for the face, the gatekeeper guards his face with his axe.  Gauge slows down a moment, places his hands on the axe and flips off of it.

As he hovers over the keeper, he shifts his momentum to deliver a powerful kick to his neck, slamming the keeper to the ground.

Var was amused from seeing this, he was sitting on the sidelines as if he was kid watching a fun show,

"Not bad kid, not bad at all"

Gauge then lands on the ground and slides a little due to momentum from the launch...

The gatekeeper recovers from it, and materializes some kind of blue radiating ore, and throws it to a  distance from Gauge, and then he teleports to where the ore fell. Var notices this and shouts,

"those are gate cores mined from gate outgrowths, seems like they let him teleport where they stand."

The keeper spawns and handful of these ores and spreads across the field they were fighting. The real fight begins now...as he starts teleporting rapidly, Gauge finds it hard to keep track. Suddenly, the Keeper lunged out of nowhere, swinging his axe in a crushing blow. The assault didn’t let up — strike after strike came from every direction, forcing Gauge onto the defensive as he struggled to block each unpredictable attack.

The Keeper suddenly unleashed an upward swing. Mordan managed to block, but the force still hurled him skyward. In the same breath, the Keeper snatched up an ore, tossed it, and smashed it with his axe like a batter at the plate. The ore shot past Gauge as he ascended — and in that instant, the Keeper blinked into existence above him, axe drawn back for a single, decisive blow.

"Even if I block this, the impact from the attack and the momentum  i'd hit the ground with,I ll surely sustain a heavy damage."

he thought to himself as the axe was approaching him,

"Origami : cobwebs"

At the last instant, Var yanked Gauge out of the axe’s path. The Keeper’s swing cut through empty air, throwing him off balance. Drained of energy, his ethereal wings faltered — and he began to fall. Gauge as he landed did not waste any time, he tried to catch the keeper suspended in the air, so he could finish him off with a single blow.

As the Keeper neared the ground, mere inches from impact, Gauge vaulted over him and drove his fist downward in a ground-shattering strike. But he forgot one thing, the keeper teleported at the last moment, leaving gauge to punch the empty ground. Gauge tries to slow down his punch but he hits the ground and his hands pierced through the ground. Even if only for a few seconds, this provided an opening for his opponent."

In a blink, the Keeper appeared before him, his axe arcing straight for Gauge’s eyes. But just as the blade was about to cleave through, it froze — suspended in the air, trembling, only inches from his gaze. A heavy silence fell. As Gauge shifts his gaze to the handle of the axe, strands of blood were holding back the axe. Var saves him not only once but twice, but this time it was sure death. Gauge melts the ground around his arm and releases himself.

The keeper pulls Var in and pounces him off to a distance knocking him out. Gauge gains his stance and tries to punch him as he phase-slips again. Gauge now frustrated, delivers a fully charged punch to the ground, cracking the ground and filling it with molten embers at once. These cracks sinks all the ores vapourising them as gauge falls to his knees exhausted. Var gains consciousness and looks at one ore that is not vapourised.

Before he could warn Gauge, fragments of the keeper started materializing behind gauge, too weak to do anything immediately, Var thought it was over. suddenly Gauge turned towards the still materialising keeper, he pulls his arm and throws a fully charged punch, as impact of his fist landed, the materialization was complete, only to receive an all out punch from Gauge. it was a bait, he purposefully spared the ore behind him and used the time he pretended to be exhausted to fully charge his fists.

Even Var was shocked. The impact was so hard it broke the sound barrier, launching the gatekeeper. he lost his grip over his axe and the axe was sent flying. The recovered Var uses his crimson whip technique to the sling the axe across to Gauge yelling,

"KID!!!! FINISH HIM...."

Gauge who propelled backwards from the impact, still floating, grabbed the axe, pivoted on his foot spinning himself around as he threw the axe. The axe started spinning at a high speed forming what seemed like disc radiating with blue gate energy. The hurled axe met the Keeper midair, cleaving him cleanly in two.

HIs lower half dropped dead, while his upper half, stopped moving and floated in the air. A heavy moment of silence, then his face started cracking from his mouth, spreading to his entire face.
Within seconds his entire face shatters, releasing all the ethereal energy from the gate. As it returned back to the gate, Var quickly opens his riftcore and collects as much as he can

Storage limit reached, available gate energy: 3000 units displayed by  the riftcore

The battle was over, but what did this victory accomplish? why did the Gatekeeper attack Gauge? what was the point of this battle?
