Chapter 8:
Dragon's Laud
[A short while after the siblings were done fighting. (Without successfully ending the others life.) We say short but the fight lasted for a few hours.]
"Ragon! Where are you?" I call out into the dark forest.
"Kem, I think he wondered off." Sonja states holding up a glowing spruce limb to look under a tree better.
"He isn't some pet that would wonder off into the dark. Ragon is an intelligent human." I say with pride.
Sonja starts coughing as if she choked on something.
"You all right?"
"Yup, just swallowed wrong." She hits her chest to clear her throat.
We search for a little while and we couldn't even find Maddie. She always comes when bribed with Sonja's scratches.
"Maybe we should stop for the night and try again in the morning. For all we know he found shelter and is sleeping somewhere. Besides he was crying that he didn't have powers so he wouldn't have wondered off far." Sonja states.
"I hope you're right." I say.
"I will see you in the morning alright? You get your lessons out of the way and meet me up here." Sonja smiles gently and it does help. "I will start looking at first light so don't make me wait too long for you."
"Alright." I say.
She helps with a magic square and sends me on my way home. I sneak out of the closet where my secret magic square is hidden. Sonja helped me make it so we could see each other. Along with if I needed to hide from others if magic lessons got a little difficult. Sonja would help teach me in a way I would understand so then I could come back without fear.
I crawl into bed and try to stop thinking of all the worst case scenarios Ragon could be in.

I hurry through all my lessons, that seemed to drag on from the elders. On my way home from the counsel hall I spot my friends Mitus and Amaya. I'm beyond happy no one found out we used the ancient attic the night before.
"Hey Kem," Amaya says getting my attention. She is dressed in the bare minimum of the Kingdom's public decency rule with a white tank top and a red plade skirt she rolled to make shorter. Then she always wears black boots for what ever reason. Her long straight black hair is in pigtails today.
"Yea?" I ask looking around at the trees and bushes.
"Stop looking suspicious. How is that kid?" She asks casually.
"He, well, we can't find him." I quietly say.
"Come again?" Amaya leans in making her big chest bounce.
"So I asked him to stand outside while Sonja and I 'talked'. Once we were done we couldn't find him." I spill everything while fighting tears back looking at the ground.
"Well hopefully he isn't dead. He was easy on the eyes with his muscles." Amaya says twirling a stand of her hair. Her dark blue eyes glitter like the night sky.
Mitus gets all bashful then starts to try to comfort me by saying he can help look for him. Amaya makes a comment saying that she probably shouldn't let us look alone and will contact Elbereth and Arata to join the search.
Once the group is together we use the magic square at Amaya's house since their parents are never home. We end up infront of Sonja's house. Amaya hurls from the jump since they can never handle traveling spells.
"Sonja said she would be out looking around. I'm thinking we can split up to cover more ground. I can make some homing stones so we can find our way back to Sonja's place." I say grabbing a few good sized rocks from beside the house. I place them at the door way and chant till the rocks glow red from the spell. "When the red fades it means you need to make it back here as fast as you can."
Everyone is in agreement and splits off into the forest. I make my way down the mountain calling for Ragon often and stopping to listen for him to reply back. Sadly it was just my echos back to me.
I come to a short cliffs edge over looking a field of azul and white flowers. I call out over it with no response. Turning to head the other way the rock under my foot gives out and I go tumbling into the meadow.
Sitting straight up amongst the flowers, I'm rather surprised I'm in little pain. The ground moves below me.
"Well summoner there are better ways to wake me up than falling on me." Says a voice hoarse from age.
I let out a yelp and scamper off the old man apologizing repetitively. "I'm sorry the rock gave out! I would never have done this to an elder."
"Bah!" The old man let's out a dry laugh. "I haven't been called an elder in who knows how long. Them morons chased me out after Jayxin passed from Gilton offing him and seizing the head of the council."
Elder. He said great time six grandpa's name. This couldn't be elder Guy could it?
The old guy strokes his long white beard. "Tell me summoner, you're here for guidance."
"I'm not sure what you're talking about." I say rather confused. Maybe he isn't Guy and is one of the old folks that wondered off from the village. "Maybe I could help you back to your village?"
"Bah! You help me? The prophet Guy getting help from a whippersnapper? Now that's funny!" The old man laughs as if he hasn't laughed in a long time.
So he is Guy!?
"Summoner, your new friend has wondered from you." Guy stands a little shaky, he is about my height with long white eyebrows covering his pale blue eyes. His beard reaches his belly. The grey robe he wears has seen better days. Holding out his staff he gestures to the wilderness surrounding us. "Fear not though, he will return with allies of many. Your journeys needed to split for you both to find your purposes of the coming battle."
"Coming battle? There is no way, Ragon is not a dragon. I mis-wrote dragon. If anything we need a spell to send him back." I state.
He looks at me with his head turned.
"No summoner. He is the one I said would come to this world. Ragon is already on the path of finding his purpose and will return in a fortnight. The question becomes what will you do when you find your purpose. Will you follow the teachings of them quacks staying Gilton has only brought prosperity? Or listen to the neighboring kingdoms saying he only brings destruction? They changed too many of my words in the prophecy since I left. Now summoner, you need to bring destruction and prosperity."
I look down at my way stone. The red pulses in the direction I need to go to get to Sonja's. "How could I pick both?" I ask looking up to the now lonesome meadow.
"You know, old people dropping heavy topics and disappearing is cliché right?" I yell out over the flowers.
"Who you calling old." Guy shouts sitting up not far from where he was.
I stumble and fall backwards from the shock that he was still there. I let go and loose sight of my way stone.
"Why?" I ask a little upset he scared me.
"Because it's funny." Guy let's out another dry laugh.
I lay down in the flowers with so many thoughts and questions. Where do I start asking Guy questions? I can't be the prophesied one. I'm too weak, scared, and everything. I knew Guy was revered as a quack but hearing him talk, he is very convincing. Ragon is bringing back allies though? What's the purpose thing? And Ragon is going to be gone a whole fortnight?
"Welp I have to go. There's much to do. See you very soon summoner." Guy says leaning over me before disappearing.
"Wait!" I shout sitting up and holding out my hand to the now for sure lonesome meadow.
"I have questions." I say quietly with regret of not speaking sooner.
