Chapter 27:
Our Town in another world
Rosa dejectedly sat curled up on a chair in her hotel room.
"Why the sulking? I got you booked on the trip," Sana grumbled.
"That's the issue. I can only go because of you, not my own merits..."
Though Rosa had passionately requested she be part of the delegation, Machiko had politely turned her down, citing that while she liked her enthusiasm, experience was needed for negotiations to be successful. That was when Sana stepped in and requested to join the delegation as a scientist, but on the condition that Rosa be allowed to come with her as an assistant. Fully aware of Sana's capabilities, Machiko agreed to the proposal, but despite now being able to go, Rosa was still in a dejected state.
"It's just like back then. They don't think I'm capable," Rosa mumbled.
"That's why I'm giving you this chance. Your shortcoming is that you've got skills, but never had the stage to showcase them on. That's all gonna change after this. Now let's get you into something a little nicer than a tracksuit."
Rosa shook her head and complied, trading her pink tracksuit for a nice pair of grey capri jeans and a sleeveless grey blouse shirt. She refused to part with her sneakers, but that wasn't an issue to Sana both due to the fact that she herself was rocking sneakers for the occasion, and of course that the sneakers meshed perfectly with Rosa's outfit.
"I look real good... except," Rosa trailed off as she stared at her bald reflection in the mirror.
"You rock the bald well, but your natural pink hair's your charm point. That's why I named you Pinky after all."
"You know I prefer "Rosa"."
"No way I was putting "Rosa Kagerosa" on the birth certificate. I'm fine with the nickname, but when you're with me, I'll always call you, Pinky."
"But there's nothing pink about me now," Rosa pouted.
Sana smiled and rubbed Rosa's head. "Then let's fix that so you make the best first impression you can."
...
Rosa scowled in confusion as she followed Sana into the salon.
"Welcome to Senorita's- Ah, jeans n' sneakers again. Ugh, that becoming a trend?" Kiki groaned.
"Already is, and more popular than you could ever imagine. Now, you will still honor my reservation, Kagerosa for 2?"
"Yeah, yeah, to the chairs."
The two nodded and sat down in the chairs as Kiki called over an additional stylist to service Rosa.
"Alright, name's Abbi with an "i" not a "y". Says in the reservation I gotta doll ya up, but that means first we gotta clean up that smooth scalp n' pretty face of yours," a young woman with a crimson pixie bob smiled as she capped Rosa.
"Do what you must. I'm in no position to protest," Rosa sighed as she was spun towards the sink.
"Alright, then pucker up, cuz this is gonna get soapy."
Rosa shut her eyes tight and held her lip just as tightly as Abbi encased her head and face in soap. It was oddly soothing in a sense, but Rosa still wished it'd be over. Once she was done and dried off, her head and face were then encased in shaving cream, much to her confusion.
"Don't worry, just gotta do a quick smoothing to bring out your full radiance," Abbi grinned as she tilted Rosa's head back and began shaving her with a safety razor.
In the next chair over, Sana smiled in bliss as Kiki carefully and gently washed her hair. Kiki's mood was still terrible, in fact, it appeared to be worsening the more she washed Sana's hair, yet that didn't effect her performance on the job in the slightest.
As Sana's hair was wrapped up in a towel, Abbi finished shaving Rosa, and began encasing her head and face in beauty cream.
"Now that you're all smooth, this stuff will make you glow. Oh, but I do gotta cover your mouth up with this stuff, so no talking for 20 minutes," Abbi smiled as she covered up Rosa's mouth with cream, preventing her from even getting a word in.
"Why am I always getting gagged?" Rosa thought as she turned to look at Sana.
Now with her hair fully dried and neatly brushed out, Sana smiled as she gently swayed her hair back and forth.
"And you're really sure about this?" Kiki glared as she grabbed something off the counter.
"Yes, and don't you dare half-ass this. It's all for her," Sana nodded.
Rosa's eyes widened in horror as Kiki let out a sigh and flicked on the hair clippers she was holding. "Your hair really is beautiful. Shame we gotta do things this way, but if it's your resolve, I can't complain," Kiki grumbled as she slowly drove the clippers up the middle of Sana's hairline.
"MMPH NGH MMPH NGH [WHAT ARE YOU DOING]!?" Rosa cried.
Sana let out a giggle and crossed her legs. "Don't worry, this is all for you, Pinky."
In mere seconds, all of Sana's golden locks were strewn about the floor. Kiki quickly gathered all of it up in a bag and handed it off to Abbi, ordering her to "work her magic", to which she happily affirmed she'd do before running off to the back.
"Alright, hair taken care of. We done?" Kiki asked Sana.
"Nope. ALL THE WAY."
Kiki facepalmed and buzzed off Sana's eyebrows before lathering them along with her head with shaving cream. Tears began to ooze out of Rosa's eyes as she watched her mother become smoother by the second. In no time flat, Sana was bald and browless and having her head and face lathered up in shaving cream for round 2 of the shaving.
"So whats the stupidest thing you've ever done in your field of research and life?" Kiki grumbled as she gently tilted up Sanas head.
"Definitely not this if that was the answer you were seeking," Sana smiled.
Kiki cursed under her breath and quickly resumed shaving.
Once the shaving was done, Kiki began encasing Sana's head, face, and mouth in wax, indicating Sana truly did intend to go as bald as she could.
"Now we're NOT doing the eyelashes too, right?" Kiki wearily asked.
Sana let out a muffled giggle and shook her head.
"Ugh, you want the eyelashes gone too?"
"Mmph," Sana nodded.
"Mach is dead the next time I see her," Kiki grumbled as she fetched the tweezers and began plucking out all of Sana's eyelashes.
All the while, Rosa continued to cry. "Mother... are you doing this because I'm bald now? Why? You didn't need to do all this!" she tearfully thought.
Eventually the plucking was done and Sana was unwaxed, completely unphased at her new balder state. She was then encased in depilatory cream to ensure complete baldness.
Abbi then returned just as the last of the cream had been scrapped off Sana's head. "And I'm back, and how funny is that; you're getting out of the beauty cream while mommy's about to get smothered in it," she grinned as she peeled the beauty cream off Rosa's head, allowing her to speak again.
"MOTHER! What are you thinking!?" Rosa cried.
Sana turned to her and smiled. "Sorry, I knew you'd hate this, but I felt this was the best way to help you stand out. Miss Abbi was it? You did quick work."
"Heh, how else do you think I got my gig here? I'm the fastest wig maker in the- Uh, are we west? Who cares," Abbi smiled as she plopped something down on Rosa's head.
Rosa's jaw dropped as she stared at herself in the mirror. Atop her head was a wig the same color and style her hair had been in.
"Gotta agree with Kiki, this was kind of stupid considering we got wigs, but over the phone, your mommy insisted we shave her bald and give her hair to you."
Rosa's vision began to flood with tears as she reached over towards Sana and hugged her. "You didn't need to go this far."
"It's my choice as your mother. I want to give my hair to you and go balder than you, I do it. That's the kind of lengths I'll go for my precious Pinky," Sana warmly smiled as she held back her tears.
"Mother... You're the most beautiful and badass woman I know."
"Let all the tears out now. I don;t want your makeup to smear," Abbi smiled.
Rosa smiled and nodded as she wiped away her tears and leaned back into her chair.
"This may be sweet, but Sana, I still think you're an idiot," Kiki grumbled as she began smearing beauty cream all over Sana's head and face.
"Believe what you will. It matters not to- Mmph!?"
"Yeah, yeah, shut up for 20 minutes."
Sana let out a muffled pout, but quickly relaxed as she turned to watch Abbi doing Rosa's makeup. "Here's to your fresh start," she happily thought.
