Chapter 25:
A Dark Requiem
Thump, thump! Thump, thump! Thump, thump!
The sound of a heart beating, as if screaming to leap out of his chest. Kaega knew it wasn't out of fear. But he didn't know if it was due to the rage or the three potions he had drunk. Kaega remembered nothing from the illusion.
"Please... help me... DESTROY THEM..."
Kaega drew his second gun and aimed straight at the Head Measurer's head.
BANG!
The bullet flew into the center of the whirlwind. It disappeared, and the whirlwind gradually dissipated, leaving the Head Measurer looking weak, but his two eye sockets were as red as blood.
-YOU BRAT!!
Although the Head Measurer looked weak, he charged towards Kaega's position like an arrow.
-Lyne, get out of the way.
The two dodged the Head Measurer's attack.
WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH!
A barrage of fireballs was shot out by the Head Measurer.
-This Monster.
-Kaega, be careful, he has other attacks.
Kaega and Lyne ran, dodging the fireballs attacking them.
BOOM BOOM BOOM!
The fireballs were continuously fired.
-IF I DIE, YOU TWO WILL HAVE TO DIE WITH ME!
Because he was already dead, plus the use of 50% of his soul to bend the rules to kill Kaega, he now had less than 30% of his soul left, and his body was incomplete. Now, he could only burn his soul in exchange for 2/10 of his power at his peak.
Clank clank clank clank!
Lyne waited for the Head Measurer to focus his attack on Kaega. She quickly approached the Head Measurer and slashed at him.
-HMPH, YOU BRAT!
He managed to dodge, but in the direction he dodged, Kaega was aiming his gun.
BANG!
The bullet flew into his head.
-AGHH!
A small hole was pierced in his head, but it wasn't over. The hole quickly healed.
-Lyne, you take the lead, I'll provide support.
-Got it!
Lyne launched a relentless assault on the Head Measurer.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
-HMPH, DON'T THINK YOU CAN HIT ME!
The Head Measurer struggled to defend but then chanted a fireball spell to shoot at Lyne. She pushed off to dodge. As he was about to attack her...
Stab!
A knife flew straight into his shoulder. The attack rhythm was broken. He turned his head and shouted.
-YOU BRAT! I'LL TEAR YOU TO PIECES!
A cold presence closed in from behind. He had to quickly turn back to defend.
Screech!~
The sound of sharp metal scraping stretched on. The dagger slid along the claw. Lyne had attacked from behind, but the Head Measurer was lucky to turn back in time.
-Hmph, die, you demon.
Lyne continuously attacked the Head Measurer, while Kaega kept taking cheap shots whenever he had an opening. Although the damage wasn't much, it prevented him from counter-attacking.
"DAMMIT, THESE BRATS.... SINCE WHEN DID THEY COORDINATE SO WELL!!"
The Head Measurer risked it and slammed his left hand at Kaega, only to be met with a burning bag of Thunder Powder.
Boom!
His left arm disintegrated, and he was forced to wait for it to regenerate.
-Lyne, press him!
Clang! Clang! Clang!
The Head Measurer, with only his right hand, struggled to block Lyne's attacks. The Head Measurer's speed was too slow compared to Lyne's, but there was no way for Lyne to break through his defense. Kaega observed carefully, temporarily stopping his attacks to find an opening.
Bang!.... Bang!
Two gunshots rang out. Two bullets respectively hit his two knees. He fell to his knees.
-Here's my chance!!.
Lyne immediately increased the intensity of her attack, aiming straight for his neck. The Head Measurer was now being pushed to his limit.
-AAA! YOU BASTARDS!! YOU WON'T KILL ME!!! CREATE!!!!
From the sky, stone bullets appeared. Kaega saw them and shouted.
-Lyne, watch out above you!
Lyne stopped her attack and focused on dodging the bullets falling like rain.
RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE!
Lyne carefully dodged them, but the Head Measurer wouldn't let her dodge in peace. After the stone rain ended, the Head Measurer was right next to her.
-DIE!!!
-Huh....
The Head Measurer swung his hand and struck Lyne. She was sent flying hard into a wall.
CRASH!!!!
The impact sounded like a cannon blast. Dust flew everywhere, and Lyne's condition within it was unknown.
-Lyne! Dammit.
Kaega reached behind his back as if intending to take something out. The Head Measurer turned his head and charged towards Kaega.
-DIE, BRAT!
Kaega pulled out the cannon made from Erpert's bones, and the Head Measurer recognized it. He slowed down. He recognized that thing.
"IF THAT HITS ME, I'LL DIE!!!"
-Die!
BOOOOOOM!
Kaega was pushed back 3 steps. The Head Measurer was startled and dodged it.
SPLAT!!
His newly restored left arm was blown off again by the bone cannon, but he had dodged the fatal blow to his head.
-HAHA, OUT OF TRICKS, AREN'T YOU!!
-I'm screwed.
The Head Measurer swung his right hand at Kaega. He managed to dodge a fatal blow, but....
Slice!
-AAGHHH..AWWWW!!!
An insane pain from his left arm. Kaega fell down, his face contorted in pain, teeth clenched tight. The Head Measurer's fingernails and Kaega's forearm were lying there. Blood gushed from the wound like a spring.
-a..ghagh!
Kaega tried to get up, but the pain left him with no strength.
-HAHA... IT HURTS, DOESN'T IT... YOU BRAT... THIS IS NOTHING COMPARED TO WHAT PEOPLE LIKE YOU DID TO ME... I'LL CRUSH YOU ALL.
"I don't know... I don't know anymore... please, say something... what am I doing these things for.... Why.... Am I doing the right thing or the wrong thing..."
For some reason, even though he was in great pain... the resentment in Kaega's mind had not disappeared. He used his intact right arm to take out a bag of gunpowder from his person.
-HMPH! A RAT'S DEATH THROES?
The Head Measurer slowly approached the heavily injured Kaega. He wanted to play with his efforts. His left arm, though just blown off, had already regenerated by half without needing to be reattached.
Click...
Kaega used his teeth to bite down on a flint. Then he scraped it against the hard stone floor with his foot to create a spark for the fuse. In the Head Measurer's eyes, it looked like Kaega was just trying to crawl away.
-HAHA! I HAVEN'T EVEN CUT OFF YOUR LEGS, AND YOU'RE ALREADY USING YOUR TEETH TO CRAWL?
The Head Measurer laughed mockingly.
-Ha... ha.... I admit... ha... you're the dumbest guy I've ever met...
BOOM!
The Head Measurer was hit by a bag of Thunder Powder and was blown away. Kaega was also sent flying as the explosion was close to him.
-A...Agh.!
Kaega rolled far away but quickly regained his senses. He took out the last bag of Thunder Powder from his pouch, made a small cut in the bag with his knife to let the powder spill out. He grabbed a handful and placed it on his wound...
-AGH!
The burning sensation as a strange powder touched the wound, but it wasn't over. Leaning against the wall, he used his right hand to strike a spark.
FWOOSH!
-AWWWWWWWHH..
The excruciating pain almost made Kaega faint, but by some miracle... or a cruel fate that made him endure the pain consciously, it finally worked... the wound stopped bleeding.
-HA.....ha....ha...
His head was now throbbing like a hammer. His vision was blurry and crimson from the blood and the potion he had drunk.... his heart was screaming, beating harder than before to try to pump back the lost blood. Kaega looked at the Head Measurer... he was standing there... the wound from the explosion was healing slower.
-ha...ha... about to die, are you.... you fool.
The Head Measurer, with his tattered body regenerating slowly, but his mouth was still there.
-YOU BRAT, YOU THINK DOING THAT WILL HELP ANYTHING.... EVEN IF I HAVE LESS THAN 1/100TH OF MY SOUL LEFT, I CAN STILL KILL YOU.
Kaega now only had a small knife left... the guns were out of bullets and couldn't be reloaded... his body no longer had enough strength to fight him... but he still hadn't given up. His right hand still held the small knife tightly, his body trembling as he stood up.
-ha... you still bark too loud for a dog... no, comparing you to one is an insult to it, haha.
Kaega continued to provoke the Head Measurer, despite not being in a good state at all. The Head Measurer, though wanting to rip his throat out, now had too little soul power to do so... he just walked slowly towards him.
-I... WILL TEAR YOUR THROAT OUT... YOU BRAT!
Kaega couldn't hold on any longer and had to kneel down, unable to resist for long.
"Maybe... this is the end... maybe hell is the destination after all... I probably won't be able to see her again...”
Kaega's thoughts slowed down.... His heart was also gradually slowing down.
-HEY.... NOT YET..... ALREADY.... GIVING UP AND DYING.
The Head Measurer's voice gradually faded.
-AWWWWWWW.... IMPOSSIBLE.....LYNE....YOU'RE STILL ALIVE!
Suddenly, the Head Measurer's scream made Kaega wake up.... he looked towards him and saw a knife stabbed deep into his neck.... It was Lyne... Her right hand was surging with mana from the knife.
-Does it hurt?... this is the position you forced me... to stab her in.
Tears fell on Lyne's blood-streaked face... around her were crimson barrier fragments that were gradually breaking apart.
-NO!!! DON'T.
-GO BACK TO HELL, YOU DEMON!
Lyne screamed, her arm swung powerfully, and the Head Measurer's head flew into the air.... His two eye sockets were wide open in rage and fear.... the light in those two eye sockets looked at Lyne and gradually faded.
<The Head Measurer... the leader of the Aquila branch, died there during the Blood Feast... his body disintegrated, leaving only his terrified head... when the Eye Watcher had dealt with all the trouble the Head Measurer had caused... The Eye Watcher picked up his head... the two wide-open eye sockets clearly showing fear were used as containers for the eyes he had collected. Later, even the Eye Watcher was so impressed that he wrote a letter of thanks to Kaega.>
-ha... You're a tough one to kill, Lyne.
Kaega said his last words to Lyne before fainting, but before he passed out, he managed to take out a piece of paper from his person.
Lyne, though also injured... but thanks to the mysterious red barrier that had saved her, it wasn't too serious... She quickly went to Kaega's side, helped him up, and checked his current condition.
-Kaega! Are you okay? Hey!
She tried calling, but Kaega couldn't respond now.
"He lost an arm, but why isn't it...”
Lyne's eyes widened when she saw how Kaega had stopped the bleeding. He used Thunder Powder to cauterize the wound and clot the blood.
"This madman, what should I do!!... Can Miss Elina save his arm?.... she's a Saint-rank after all...”
Countless thoughts rushed through her mind, but Lyne quickly realized what she should do right away. She bandaged the severed part to prevent movement from causing it to bleed.... she also picked up the severed part of the arm in case it could help in some way... Reading the paper that Kaega took out, Lyne knew what to do next. Lyne placed all the Thunder Powder she had on her in a corner and then detonated it....
BOOM!
The large explosion revealed the vast city of Aquila, then a light shone from the south of the city. Lyne carried Kaega on her back. She jumped down from the high tower and still landed safely. Heading towards the light, she quickly met Elina.
-You two are still alive!
Elina was overjoyed, but not for long when she saw Kaega's condition. Lyne replied hastily.
-Miss Elina! He's lost too much blood, we have to save him now, please.
-Put him down, Lyne, I'll give him first aid!
Lyne put Kaega down, and then Elina used a spell to accelerate his metabolism and recovery.
-Lyne!! Why is his heart beating so slowly now!
-He drank 3 stamina potions at the same time!
-THIS IDIOT! LYNE, HELP ME WITH CHEST COMPRESSIONS FOR HIM. OR IT WON'T BEAT ANYMORE.
-Got it!
Lyne placed her hands on Kaega's chest and started compressing.
BOOM!
In the distance, the battle between the Silver Masks and the alliance of the Blood Wolves and the Faith Guild was at its peak, and a tower of the Silver Mask Guild had collapsed.
-DAMMIT! HIS HEART IS STILL TOO WEAK, I CAN'T CHANNEL MANA INTO IT! IF I HAD BROUGHT ROBERT WITH ME.
-Mana... I can use it.
Elina looked in astonishment at the blue mana flowing from Lyne's two hands into Kaega's body.
-LYNE, DIRECT IT INTO HIS HEART AND SQUEEZE TO MY COUNT.
RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE!
-RAAAAAAWWWW
The sounds of battle in the distance grew more intense, but it didn't break Lyne's concentration, and in the sky full of smoke and fire, and the originally gloomy atmosphere of Aquila, on the contrary, Kaega's life was lit with hope from amidst the corpses of countless fanatics and madmen....
