Chapter 1:
The hard life of Eris Takanashi's Misfortune
Life is a series of Misfortunes.
Ordinary days pass by as Eris wastes away her meaningless life at home. It has been 4 years since she dropped out of High School. Her parents constantly nag her every day to get out of the house and stop leeching off of them. She does not respond to them and just sits in her room all day. Her only comfort in life the past year was Hololive and their brand of V-tubers. Whether they were from the EN, JP, or even ID branch, she didn't care; she watched them all. Even if she could not understand the words of the EN and ID branches, she still enjoyed their content. Today was no different; she woke up at 1 pm and ate the Oreo and chips she had in her room. She discarded the package of food when she was done, simply tossing it into the already full trash can that had not been emptied for days. She then turned on her computer and tuned in to her Hololive Oshi's stream. The day had gone by in a flash, and it was around 8 pm. As she was about to end the day and go back to sleep, she started scrolling on Twitter and saw that Hololive Fes was coming up in a week. Eris decided that she wanted to go to this year's Hololive Fes. She would go and pray for the chance to meet one of her Oshi's, hoping that maybe one of them would offer her comforting words to ease her unfortunate life. She had lied to her parents when she was asking for the money needed for the trip and had obtained it in that way. She knew there was no way she would be able to pay them back, but also, they probably would not care and would just be happy she was finally leaving the house after five years.
The day of the Fes had arrived, Eris took special care to wake up at 5 AM early in the morning, to take a long shower and rinse her hair; something she had not done in weeks. She started applying makeup and grooming herself properly. She tried to fit into her old clothes that she used to wear, but the only thing she could fit into was her old High school uniform. She begrudgingly put it on, blocking out the bad memories associated with it. Today was a special day after all, she was finally leaving the house for the first time in five years. She was even gonna go to a crowded place filled with tens of thousands of people, just for the chance to meet her Oshi. She took the dive and finally left the house at 6 AM to take the early train to the venue. As she left the house, she started to feel suffocated from the outside air, and she started to feel faint. She wanted to retreat to her room, but she endured the pain. She endured it to finally have a chance to meet her Oshi. As she got on the train to head to the venue, she could feel the stares of the other passengers glancing at her coldly. She felt uncomfortable from their gaze and thought of the worst. She wondered if they could sense that she was a murderer, something she had tried to hide deeply by shutting herself away in her room. It was, after all, that huge incident DH69, that led to her becoming reclusive. The incident cemented her belief that she was a harbinger of bad luck and a murderer.
After a painful 30 minutes or so, the train had finally arrived at her stop. As she alighted, she was greeted with the sight of fellow idol fans around her. The females were cosplaying, and the males were carrying around huge Ita bags with merchandise of their idol. She soon got swallowed by the crowd and spat out a good distance away from the train station. She tried to get her bearings and find the entrance of the venue, but to no avail. It was all just people surrounding her, and she was not tall enough to see past their heads. She wanted to ask someone for directions, but she was too scared to. What if they find her creepy, or worse, can sense her unlucky energy? She then continued trying in vain to look for the entrance before finally stumbling upon it. She was ecstatic. Entering the hall, she was greeted by insanely loud music blasting through the speakers. Eris found it uncomfortable, but she endured it as it was music she liked and was familiar with. She listened to them for hours late at night after all. She made her way to the main stage and tried to get a seat. She found a seat after a short while and sat down. As luck would have it, it was an aisle seat, making it easy for her to leave at any time she felt uncomfortable.
The Salem Witch Trials were just one of them.
"It's getting late, I'd better start heading home." Eris had thought to herself. It had been no longer than 1 hour since she entered the place and got herself a nice seat. She enjoyed the performances but felt disappointed for some reason. It was as if experiencing something live was different from experiencing it on screen. She started to feel nauseous and so decided to call it a day and leave the place to go home. Her plan was a bust, and while the experience was not bad, it was something she did not want to experience ever again. She realized being in her room was still the better experience and tried to leave when she felt her head spinning. She then immediately collapsed on the floor and felt her soul leaving her body. Strangely, no one in the venue had noticed or even cared. Eris could only mutter It's karma before she fell.
Eris then awoke after what she felt was a few hours later, but to her shock, when she woke up, she found herself not at the Hololive Venue. No, she probably was not even in Japan. The place she awoke at was a place completely foreign to her. The people surrounding her were wearing strange outfits, nothing you would find in modern-day Japan. The language they were using to speak amongst themselves was also something she had never heard before. Tho it felt familiar to her, she knew it wasn't the Japanese she was familiar with. As she fully opened her eyes and took a glance at her surroundings, she saw that she was currently tied up and being carted off somewhere. She was shocked awake and started rattling on the bars of the cage she was trapped in. The people transporting her were startled and immediately stopped. She proclaimed in Japanese to let her go, but her kidnappers were just confused. They could not understand what she was saying at all. She then started slamming the cage harder, eventually tipping herself over. The cage then spilled open, and she immediately made a run for it. She ran as fast as she could. Even in this strange place, there was surely someone who could understand her, she had hoped.
Eventually, as expected, she became out of breath after only running for 5 minutes. Her kidnappers soon caught up to her. This time, however, they were holding swords. Eris screamed as loud as she could as she started to fear her death. As she screamed, a whole bunch of wolves magically spawned into existence and started attacking her would-be kidnappers. While a few of them managed to quickly retreat, some were not so lucky and ended up devoured by the wolves. The kidnappers then started to fully retreat.
Eris was saved, but not for long. No sooner had Eris started to sigh in relief, she heard a loud trumpet noise. Soon, a bunch of armed cavalrymen stomped their way into the forest where she was. It was a troop of armed soldiers, and behind them was a large pagoda on wheels. As soon as the trumpets ended, the cavalrymen started announcing,
"Here comes the arrival of one of the 4 heavenly kings of the Troy Empire, Azure dragon of the east Mephisto." As the announcement was made, out of the pagoda came a brightly dressed dude. He had long black hair and had elf ears and black arms.
"So the child of doom has finally graced us with her presence," Mephisto said calmly as he pulled out a teacup from thin air to sip.
"Child of doom, are you referring to me?" Eris asked, not even questioning how she could suddenly understand the villainous man.
"Of course, my dearie, Long white hair, wearing a mysterious foreign school uniform, who magically appears out of thin air one day. Yes, you, who else would it be referring to?" Mephisto responded with his snarky question back at Eris.
"Now you can be a good little girl and kindly follow me, or I can cut off all your limbs and carry you back myself; the choice is yours." The villain said calmly. Eris, not one to put up a fight easily, accepted her status and decided to follow the villainous man. The man then led her back to the villager from where the kidnappers originated. Awaiting her was a large pillar in the middle of the village. Below it were a bunch of logs, and waiting were armed men with torches. Eris had summarized that she was about to be burned at the stake. She was amazed at how old-fashioned and ridiculous her death was going to be, but she just coldly thought that this was an end befitting a witch like her. Truly, karma has finally caught up with her.
As she stepped onto the pile of logs and waited for herself to be tied up and burned. She then heard loud laughter coming from inside her head.
"Foolish little Madonna, surely you could put up a fight. Yours truly has finally awoken inside you after your little stunt in the forest, but is that all you amounted to?" He then started to laugh like a madman. Eris then loudly shouted, "Shut up, old fart". She, of course, said that out loud without realizing, causing the people around her to panic and start shouting curses at her. They started calling her a witch, and she would burn in hell. Eris then realized the voice was coming from inside her head, and not from anyone in the crowd. She then sighed and thought she was going crazy in her final moments. As she was finally tied up, the villagers stepped down and started setting Eris on fire. Mephisto then followed up, chanting a move called the flaming queen, which turned the fire into something sentient. The fire, now alive, started dancing around Eris before starting to burn her hands first. As she started screaming in pain, she thought back to how she never got a chance to make things right with her parents, how she never got a chance to thank the V-Tuber who saved her. She then subconsciously started thinking, did she deserve any of the suffering she received in her lifetime? As she thought that for a split second, the heads of the men around her got decapitated. The fire also stopped feeling hot and instead felt like normal room temperature water. Mephisto, who managed to see all of this unfold and fearing the worst immediately, recalled his fire soldier. As he started to plan his next move, loud laughter could be heard. None of the villagers could know where the laughter was coming from, but Mephisto knew. He then turned the flame soldier into a flaming sword and grabbed it. He rushed to stab Eris in the heart, but it was too late. Emitting from Eris was a huge wave of energy that blew everyone back. Before Mephisto got his bearings, he could hear Eris's voice speaking. Only this time, it was her voice overlapping with an old man's voice. "I am thou, thou art I. We have awoken from our years of slumber and will reclaim what is rightfully ours. Mephisto, nay Lucius, I see you have taken good care of my host. I hope you're ready to pay the price."
The stage for Eris's Adventure has officially begun.
