Chapter 6:
YOUR ONLINE READER KILLER
I made a video call to the three.
"Still awake?" I asked them after I opened my camera.
“Oh, no. I’m asleep, that's why I’m talking to you,” Neilsen answered the call first.
He’s half-naked and looks like he just got out of the shower.
He should be thankful that this is only a video phone call. If not, I might’ve pinched his waist for his mocking response.
“What do you mean you’re moving, huh?” Anikka asked with a green face mask on her face. A skincare freak.
I texted them about my news before video calling them.
“Yeah, I’ll be transferred. I mean, we’ll transfer.”
"For real? Where?!" Anikka exclaimed.
"We're moving out, I don't know where yet."
"When is it, Hestral?" Jethro spoke.
Looks like he’s already in his bed. Yeah, he sleeps early around 9 PM.
“After a month... So, at the end of May.”
"Where?" Neilsen asked while towel drying his hair.
"Are you even listening to what I'm saying?"
"Yeah, you said you’d move out," he replied.
"I said, I don't know where yet." I clarified.
“You should find out ASAP. What if you’re too far from us?” Anikka removed her face mask out of concern for me.
"Maybe not. Maybe it'll still be around Metro City. You know, this is where my life has been, our life.”
"Just let us know where and we'll baptize your new house!" Neilsen said energetically.
I laughed lightly at what he said.
“Yes! Because that’s going to be our new hideout!” Anikka added.
"I thought Neilsen’s house was?" I asked.
We usually decide on whose house will be our hideout, not literally. But it only means which house to visit most of the time for our sudden meetings and a bonding place as a gang.
“Nah, there’s no more thrill in their house. His bulldog, who barks loudly, is scary!” Anikka commented.
“My dog doesn’t like you,” Neilsen commented. And their meaningless fight started.
I simply looked at Jethro, who had no expression while the two were fighting.
“Okay, that’s enough. This day has been exhausting. Good night, goons!” I spoke.
"Good night!" the two responded.
Our conversation ended quickly, but Jethro hardly spoke.
It was a good breather to share my personal affairs with them, just to let this go off my chest. I wouldn’t know what to do if not for them.
I clicked the bookfiend app. I forgot that there might be chapter 2, just taking a chance. Turns out there isn’t yet. All right, maybe that story is worth waiting. I just noticed it only increased with one view. No one has even read it yet but me.
After a month
Okay, we're finally moving out after a month of easing my mind.
"There’s still some stuff in the dirty kitchen," Mommy ordered the workers hauling our belongings to the truck.
Before leaving my dearest bedroom, I scanned it and talked to it.
“The amount of time we get together, you’ve seen the different sides of Hestral Gern. So, don’t tell my secrets to the new user here, okay?”
It's crazy to think, but I love this room. If possible, I’ll remove this room and move it to the new house.
This is where I grew up, where I made a lot of memories. It witnessed the hardships and comforts of our family. Here, Mommy and Daddy formed a family of three.
“I'll take care of it."
I heard a man's voice. I rolled my eyes and turned. Maybe it was one of the hauler staff, but I was the only one here.
While standing in my bedroom, I felt goosebumps.
What is this again?
Again?
I felt this feeling before but couldn’t recall exactly when.
“Wha!” I saw a dark rat on the side of my bedroom.
I sat on the floor on my knees.
"Are you the one who spoke?" I asked to the rat.
I laughed at what I was doing.
"Get off me!"
It grossed me out when the rat jumped toward me.
Yikes!
It ran out of the room. I never knew that a rat existed in this house. Mom is meticulous and hates dust, so this place is always clean and pest-controlled. We have a housemaid to do that work. This house needs to be pest-controlled more. I told Mom about the rat so that she can deal with it for our new tenants who will rent the house.
When I finished my business, I got in our car.
Daddy will drive, and Mommy, who will sit in the front seat, has also gotten on board.
Daddy was already driving, and I observed where we were going. I kinda still knew this road. But I’m no longer familiar with the place after a few more hours. Yes, it’s been a 2-hour car ride.
"Okay, could you please tell me, where is our new home?"
How long have I waited to know where we’ll move, but until now, they refuse to tell me. Hello? It’s been a month since I’ve been nagging them to tell me.
“Just be patient, Hestral.” Mom insisted.
“A little longer. We’ll get there in no time,” Dad added.
Yes, ‘in no time’. In no time, I’m about to explode here as I sit because my curiosity is consuming me.
I crossed my arms. The whole road trip duration took about five hours. My ass is getting hot from sitting for hours.
My curiosity about where our new house is killing me. Maybe it’s a haunted house, that’s why they won’t tell me?
I opened my phone and checked if there was a new chapter update, but still nothing.
Maybe yourgreatestdaymare is becoming lazy, or maybe the author had a nightmare and never woke up. Uh-oh, bad joke.
I chatted with the author, but there was no reply. They only replied once. Maybe I annoyed them with my meanness because I asked too many questions about the update. Pardon me, for I won't ask you again. But I hope the author won’t give up writing the story.
Tch, I’ll just find other horror stories to read then. I was about to click and discover a new horror story to read when our car stopped.
I leaned. Dad came out of the car.
"Come on," Mommy came out as well.
Are we here? I looked around while I was still inside the car. Lush, earthy, rocky, little to no houses, and no other vehicles sighted.
Maybe they’ll just buy something, so we stopped over. I rolled my eyes at the thought of it. If they’re going to buy something, do I still need to be with them? I’ll stay here instead. It’s been a long ass 5-hour drive, and my legs are numb to get out of the car.
"Hestral, come here!" Mom called out loudly.
I rolled down the car window.
“Go ahead. I won’t pee. I'll just wait here.” I replied.
I was about to roll up the car window when Mom called me again, heading in my direction. “What are you talking about? Come here.”
I got out of the car. I frowned at her. She took my hand, and then we walked away from the car.
"Where are we going?" Ugh, my legs.
We kept walking. It was rocky, and I was only wearing slippers. I had a hard time walking.
“We’re here,” Mom announced. We stopped walking while looking at something in front of us.
I looked up and saw a 2-storey house. It looks spacious and airy. The house is surrounded by trees and plants. It’s kinda new and smaller compared to our previous house, but not bad.
“What are we going to do here?” I questioned her.
"Hestral," Dad came up to us, and he put his arm around us. Okay, what the heck is this? "Welcome to our new home," Dad announced calmly with a smile.
I gazed at them. I turned my gaze to the said house carefully. Ah, this is our new hou-
