Chapter 16:
YOUR ONLINE READER KILLER
LEWIN’S POINT OF VIEW
After a year...
“Bang! bang! bang! Boogssh!” my noisy troop yells.
I was about to hit the big guy of the enemy’s team when my computer lagged.
“Ay, lag! Tch!” I hit the keyboard aggressively.
"It’s because you're weak, haha!" The dude on my right, if he’s not my friend, I might’ve punched his face.
"Stop talking about you." I scoffed.
I logged out of my game abruptly without finishing it because I knew we were going to lose this game.
Scratching my head, out of annoyance, I got up and left him.
"Hey, hey, the game isn't over yet!"
"You’ll be the one to pay this time, bleh!" I ran away so that this guy named Enrico would pay for our 3-hour computer rent instead.
“Rage quitter!” he shouted at me while still playing.
I left the computer shop.
Argh, the computer units there are always slow and laggy, that’s why I lost my last ranked game, darn it! I would have been promoted to the next rank if not for this sh*tty lag.
"Hey, what a waste of money," Rico complained.
He just went out of the computer shop after paying for the two of us.
"Let’s just play another game sometime."
He stomped his feet on the ground. “What are we going to do then? You're unbelievable!"
“You play alone. I'll wander around.”
I took my wallet and opened it. I smiled. Hihi, I still have a lot of cash.
"What are you grinning about?" he asked.
"Hihihi"
“I won’t play anymore, Killjoy. Where are we after this?”
I just smiled at him with a plan on my head.
“Geez. That smile, I know what that means, eh."
I raised my eyebrows and grinned. "You know what to do."
"No, no, no, don’t include in your dirty business”
"I know you’ve been wanting to go there, too."
"That’s a very bad idea, I’m telling you."
I walked ahead, leaving him behind. "Up to you"
He followed and walked beside me. "Come on, come on…"
Hmp, this dude really.
"Are you sure?" he whispered.
I nodded while smiling. "What? Game?"
"Game!" he exclaimed.
After 5 minutes of walking from the computer shop, we took ourselves to a nearby popular eatery.
“Whooo! This is so good!” Rico slurped from a bowl of steaming rice porridge. Even the sweltering heat couldn’t stop us from enjoying hot food.
“Told ya! No one can beat the best street food here!”
This is the best spot we found to eat our lunch, which is in front of our school.
After the 3-hour gaming session, our stomachs were left starving. A hobby that is supposed to relieve our stress has caused us more stress. Eating an unlimited hot porridge paired with a bottle of soda this summer is the best combo!
"Oh brother, another porridge with extra toppings, please!"
"On the way, boss!" the waiter shouted.
Rico and I like to hang out here at our favorite street food eatery near school. We often eat, hang out, and play computer games after our classes. And since it’s our summer vacation, we have a lot of time to waste.
This idiot eats like there’s no tomorrow. He must be thankful I’ll treat his lunch this time. Oh, well, he paid for my computer rent a while ago.
"I atlly ike da tfu wid sau-mmm."
“Oh, there's your bread.” I stuffed a big block of bread inside his mouth. “Talk when I can understand what you’re saying.” I piled another block of bread in his mouth.
He chewed and then spoke. "I said,” he swallowed the bread. “It's a pity if you didn't leave, we would have won that game."
I took a sip of my soda first. “I don’t know about that. Would you rather deal with those toxic teammates or just let that round slide?”
“I would have ranked up by now if you didn’t quit.”
“And what? Leave me behind the ranking?” I joked with him.
“It’s true that you’re weak. You’re the bottom fragging for 4 games consecutive.”
I scowled at him.
“By the way, did you enroll?”
I gulped first. "I'm not sure if I’ll continue studying at Clairene."
“What?! You’re still undecided? It’s been weeks!”
"Keep your voice down,"
"You gotta decide now."
"Whatever, man." I was dazed for a moment when Rico brought that up. "You? What do you think?"
“Well, for me, don’t shift to another school. There are many chicks here.”
“Crazy, I’m not like you, though. Our school is also getting boring, so maybe I'll just move.”
He frowned. "You’ve got to be kidding."
“Depends on my mood. Let’s see what will happen.”
I got up to pay for our lunch.
"This is no playtime, okay? You gotta be serious when it comes to this."
Now this guy wants me to be a serious guy for a moment.
After our food trip, I am now waiting at a terminal station for a ride.
"Going home already?"
"Yup," I replied
He checked his watch. "It’s still early”
I shrugged. “Got nothing else to do anyway.”
“Tch, you’re no fun.”
This guy knows no limits.
I waved my hand to him as I rode the jeepney. “Adios!”
"Alright, take care, bot frag!" Then we fist bump.
"You too, idiot!"
I took a jeepney ride going home as my number one source of public transportation. I glanced outside the jeepney window as soon as the jeep passed my school.
I just accompanied Rico to enroll earlier because I was bored at home, so he was shocked that I hadn't enrolled yet.
Tomorrow is the last day of our enrollment. My mother wants to transfer me to another school, so I'm not sure if I will continue my studies at Clairene Academy in senior high school.
