Conquest Over the Burning Prince [Part 2]

Elros’s story was swiftly cut short by violent reverberation that shook the entire property.

That sudden thunderous sound quickly stole our attention. What a shame, I actually wanted to talk more about that but it was best we checked the loud rumble. We then got close to the windows, just enough to peek out of them. There was a massive humanoid creature, large as the trees, slowly emerging from the forest. I was intensely focused on Vahaemarr because he wasn’t moving a muscle. Then I noticed his sword flying around. It was stabbing, slicing, slowing down the enemies that tried to run past him. Unfortunately, it wasn’t fast enough to get everyone. Some got by and entered the mansion.

“We better get ready. It will take Vahaemarr a while to take out that big one.” I explained, then backed away from the window.

Before I could get another word out.

I saw Elros’s eyes widened with focus on something in my direction.

In an instant, he leaped toward me with his sword out.

I turned around to look at what just happened. Elros took out an enemy that tried to sneak behind me.

In one swing of his sword, the enemy fell to the floor. My heart started to pound inside my chest. Elros’ eyes were as sharp as his sword. His posture was ready for anything. Elros went into Royal Knight mode.

“Get ready Ryosuke. I hear others coming.” Elros said sternly.

I took a quick breath and I grabbed my shield and battle hammer. Both tightly gripped as my life will depend on them.

“Okay let’s do this!” I responded.

Elros and I were back-to-back. My heart kept beating faster and faster. Waiting in anticipation for an enemy to appear.

“Here they come.” Elros expressed.

“There on my side too.” I said shortly after.

When I gazed into the faces of the enemy, I realized that they were all in blank masks! I was still able to see that they were different races because some had pointy ears or sharp horns. That was a needless detail. The only thing I have to think about is to survive!

Elros and I both charged at the enemy!

With my shield I ran straight into the group of enemies!

I had no idea how to fight, I just dodged as much as I could, waving my hammer and shield around as much as possible to give Elros time to take down the enemies by him.

We had a split second to catch our breath and exchange glances, but he then ran off to take out more enemies that rushed the hall, so I had to do the same!

All I could hear was screaming and shouting echoing from all directions!

I was giving it my everything!

I thought my heart was going to explode!

I can feel the hot sweat off my face turn into vapor!

Yelling in pain from the enemy’s attacks that I couldn't dodge!

This chainmail was so heavy but I’m so grateful I had it or else I would have been dead several times over!

I caught a glimpse of Elros. He was struggling too. Hopefully he’s not hurt!

The two of us were getting overwhelmed!

One of the enemies grabbed my leg causing me to fall. Hitting the floor!

Another one jumped with their dagger to attack me!

I quickly positioned my shield to protect me!

They pierced my shield! But then fell on top of me. What?!

I was confused, so I quickly threw them off of me.

They were dead and Nel was standing beside me with a look of superiority.

She quickly pointed at me.

“Just because I showed up here doesn’t mean I like you! Vahaemarr told me to help you!” She hollered.

“What a relief.” I sigh, with a half smile.

“What are you saying?!” She asked with embarrassment.

I don't know what she did. But she saved me and quickly helped out Elros.

“Not important, we need to check on Vapula!” I suggested as Elros ran by us.

The three of us rushed to his room as quickly as possible.

When we turned the corner, I saw that the doors to his room were open!

“Oh, no.” I said with worry.

But the three of us stopped in an instant. Eyes open with sheer shock.

Vapula walks out his room with an enemy's face in the palm of his hand, struggling to break free from his ungodly grip.

“There’s something you need to understand… You aren't here to protect me…” His voice quaked throughout the halls into our bodies.

With the flick of his wrist, Vapula twisted the neck of the enemy with the one hand they were held by.

“You're here to make sure my research goes… uninterrupted.” Vapula said with a calm tone, dropping the enemy corpses and straightening his posture.

The three of us were speechless. We just stared at him. Unsure of what to do next.

Vapula leaped past us with such speed and velocity that it moved our hair, even unbalancing our posture slightly.

Without a thought to spare we followed.

We got downstairs: we first saw Quen’s group, mirroring the same shock and confusion, still striking a mid combat pose. Surrounded by dozens of lifeless enemies scattered all over the mansion.

We barely looked at each other because we all had the same thought: no time to talk. We heard a loud boom so we rushed outside to the front yard as fast as we could.

We got to the front yard and were stunned again.

The only two people that were moving was Vapula next to a bowing Vahaemarr.

There were even more lifeless enemies than before when Vahaemarr was on his tea break. Even two of the larger enemy were on the ground lifeless.

“I’d like to sincerely apologize for disrupting you this evening, Duke Vapula.” Vahaemarr apologized, while Vapula looked at his blooded hand.

I got a little closer to the two while the others stayed back.

“Not your fault… I just got annoyed with my studies… So, I had to lose some of my inhibitions… They weren’t that strong anyhow, you surely would have won before sunrise.” Vapula responded, wiping any blood from his hand onto his pant leg.

I looked back at the others, still maintaining shock and confusion, but our breathing heavily stabilized.

I smiled slowly.

“WE WON!!!” Írui shouted in celebration.

We all let out a sigh of relief with our accomplishment. Elros, Quen, and Nel fell to their knees in solace.

Our first victory.
