Chapter 40:
The Perfect Older Daughter Who Can Never Get Her Parents’ Recognition Is Reborn into Another World
“This is where we take our own ways,” said Phaedrus.
“Thank you for taking care of us, Phaedrus. If you ever go to Dale, make sure to come to my shop. I will give you a discount for the maintenance of your weapons.”
“I will! Also, in Gan, you can find Pudus. It’s unlikely to see one, but if you do, slowly walk away from it.
“What is that?” I said, jumping in.
“It’s a small cervus only found in the Gan continent. It’s one of the strongest beasts in the world. Those are rare to find, but don’t be curious about them. It’s usually poachers who get killed because they don’t understand the danger of being close to one. So be careful.”
Phaedrus was staying in Katuranos working for some time. It was time for us to leave for Harbor City. I will take us half a day to get there. We will be there by noon.
…
It took us a couple of hours to get out of Katuranos. The road to Harbor City is filled with merchants and wagons with merchandise. Soldiers are guarding the road every step of the way to protect the people from monsters and, most likely, from thieves. From the caravan of Dale, we are only five wagons by now, and I believe only three will cross the Strait to Gan.
I can smell the fresh aroma of the sea. We are getting close to the coast. We've passed the mountains, and this area is more forest than what we saw in Katuranos. We are approaching the sea and I can see it on the horizon.
When we got to Harbor City, Dad and the other merchants went to check the adventurers’ guild to find another party to come with us to Gan. We are also expecting to be joined by other merchants who will go to Gan too. From Dale is just Dad and Mr. Damian, who are interested in going to Gan to buy Adamantium.
“Dad, can Albus and I go look around in the city while we wait?”
“Sure, just be careful and hold hands the whole time. I don’t want any of you to get lost. Let’s meet at the plaza at 17:00.”
The Harbor City of Orion is the first port of the kingdom. This is one of the cities where the heroes from Gan travel through in the Second Great War. Today, this city is an essential place for trade. Here, more merchants will join our caravan to travel to Gan. There are people of all ages and races traveling.
“Hello,” A homo Felidae kid passing by in a group of adults said to me while waving.
“Hi,” I said back while smiling.
Albus and I continue looking around the stores. Everything is beautiful.
“What dialect was that?”
“What do you mean?”
“Just now, that Felidae kid said something, and you said ‘jai’ or something.” I look back to see where the kid was, but he was gone. With this many people, it’s going to be impossible to find him.
“Ha ha ha, I just tried to answer back whatever he was saying. Ha ha, it might be a dialect from a tribe.”
That kid spoke in English?! He said, “Hello.” Why? Is he the one I need to protect and help fight the heavenly beings? Did he reincarnate like me? Is he from Earth? How does he know who I am? I need to find him.
“Cato, look, a seafood street market.” It was food stall after food stall selling different kinds of fish and other seafood. The smell was fresh and subtle, much like the ocean, but not bad. People were heading and gutting the fish, and seagulls were flying close by to eat whatever the fish cutters would throw to them.
“Cato, what is that?” I couldn't believe what I was looking at. A sea lion lying in the middle of the street, mouth open, barking, and waiting to receive some food. How is it that the fisherman and the sea beast live together without a concern for the world? Is this domesticated?
“Hello, my Lady, those are sea lions. They can be friendly, but you should always keep your distance. They get annoyed easily and would attack people, not with magic, though.”
“Oh, thank you for the information.”
“My lady, if you are looking for fresh fish, we have cod, rockfish, whiting, and flounder.”
“Can I touch it?”
“Of course, it is all fresh!”
“How do I know if it’s fresh?”
“Just for you, I will tell you the secret,” he winked. “First, look at the eyes of the fish. Fresh fish eyes are clear and slightly bulging. Second, the skin or scales should be moist and shiny. Third, the smell,” He stuck the fish in my nose. “The smell is fresh like the ocean.”
“Oooooh,” Albus and I were amazed.
“You certainly know your trade.”
“I will give you a discount, Missy, what do you think?”
“Okay, I will buy some!”
“Thanks for shopping with us!”
We continue to look at the stalls of seafood. They had salmon, tuna, halibut, swordfish, conger, clams, oysters, octopus, crab, and mussels. The seafood market is lively; everyone looks happy, and many families are walking around trying different appetizers sold in the stalls to taste the fish.
“My lady, try this homets siwichi, it’s freshly made, the best in the market.”
“We are not from around here. What is that?”
"Homets siwichi is fresh raw fish marinated in citrus juice. You must try it. It’s a local dish.”
“Give me three. I will bring some to my father.”
“Thank you for your purchase!”
We kept on walking around the coast. I was looking for the homo Felidae kid. But I could not find him? Or is it her? The Felidae was wearing a robe covering their body. I could not tell what their gender was. It’s time to meet Dad. We cannot keep looking around. We are supposed to stay here for a couple of days, so I’ll have plenty of time to look for them.
“Hey, kids! How are you? How was the walk?”
“Dad is beautiful! There is so much to see! Look, I got you some fish and homets siwichi. It’s also fish, and it is excellent! Maybe tomorrow we will have time to look around us.”
“Yummy, thank you, Cato. We can’t keep walking in the city tomorrow. We are leaving tonight.”
“Wait, what? Why?”
We can’t leave today. I need to find that person. He is a clue about what my mission in this world is.
