Chapter 8:
Sanctum of Life
Chapter 8 Battle inside the necroplane
I
“Can you make another barrier of vines like what you just did, Aislina?” asked Floria.
“For sure I can,” answered Aislina confidently.
Floria loaded her bow, and after approximately ten seconds of charging, she unbended her fingers and the arrow was shot up all the way to the core engine of the necroplane.
This arrow flew so fast that it even broke the sound barrier and created a sonic boom. When the supersonic arrow hit the engine of the necroplane, a deafening sound of explosion came out from the engine and that gigantic necroplane commenced to fall from the sky.
“Now, Aislina!” yelled Floria.
Aislina nodded and created another barrier of vines. This barrier was considerably durable and even that enormous falling necroplane didn’t destroy it.
However, some eerie blue fire appeared from nowhere and began to burn the vines. Within seconds, Aislina’s unbreakable barrier of vines was turned into dust and embers.
Because the necroplane had fallen to the ground, when the barrier of vines was destroyed, the four found themselves standing at the centre of the inner space of the necroplane and around them were monstrous black walls.
Master Mortis and Sir Bellum were looking at them silently. There was a tiny thread of smoke dancing around Master Mortis’ fingers. Obviously, it was Master Mortis who just burnt Aislina’s barrier of vines.
“It’s a surprise that I didn’t kill you three,” smirked Sir Bellum.
“Not only did we survive from your attack, but we have also become stronger now,” threatened Yanni, his aggressive eyes fixed on Sir Bellum’s lifeless mask.
“Yeah, and we’re going to kick your ass today,” smiled Starsha confidently.
“Oh, really? I am invincible. I am enhanced by the alpha variant of necrovirus. Anyway, I am pretty interested about one thing,” bragged Sir Bellum.
“Just ask,” growled Yanni.
“How did you three manage to destroy the necroplane? This necroplane is of great quality, normal weapon won’t hurt it.” questioned Sir Bellum.
“I shot an arrow at the necroplane. I have been enhanced by the Spring of Sylvana and now I can shoot an arrow which can reach the speed of sound, break the sound barrier and create a sonic boom,” replied Floria.
“So it was your sonic-boom shot that destroyed the necroplane? That’s impressive,” Sir Bellum praised.
“You shall be afraid, because Floria’s sonic-boom shot can easily blast you into pieces,” warned Starsha.
“Really? Then try me. Feel free to shoot me, and I can assure you that your sonic-boom shot won’t hurt me at all,” boasted Sir Bellum.
Floria didn’t say anything but loaded her bow and charged. After approximately ten seconds, she loosened her fingers and the arrow was shot towards Sir Bellum.
Smirking scornfully, Sir Bellum parried the arrow with his necrite mace. When the supersonic arrow touched the mace of Sir Bellum, the whole world began to tremble and shake. The arrow broke into shreds, but nothing happened to Sir Bellum’s mace at all, on the surface of which, there wasn’t even one single crack.
“No, it’s impossible,” Floria’s eyes were widen in despair and fear.
“It’s the power of necrology, which you barbarians will never understand. My mace was made of necrite, and thus it was invincible. I have crushed the army of you barbarians twenty years ago with the mace, remember?” teased Sir Bellum.
“Floria cannot harm you, but I can,” threatened Aislina.
“Your opponent is me, elf,” yelled Master Mortis. Ghost fire started to combust on his hands.
“Is that magic?” questioned Aislina.
“No, it’s not magic. On the contrary, it’s the reverse,” answered Master Mortis.
The fight began.
Sir Bellum charged towards Floria, but Yanni circled towards her, putting himself between her and Sir Bellum. He held up his shield, preparing himself for the attack of Sir Bellum, who didn’t stop but keeping charging, brandishing his nightmarish mace.
Soon, Yanni’s shield and Sir Bellum’s mace collided. Yanni was tossed in the air while Sir Bellum didn’t budge at all as though it were an anchor.
Yanni landed on her sister’s body, and they two began to roll like a snowball. Starsha wanted to help them, but ended up absorbed in the snowball of flesh as well. The three kept rolling on the ground until crashed into a wall of a small room.
While the three were fighting Sir Bellum, Aislina was battling with Master Mortis.
“You must be Master Mortis. My friends have talked a lot about you. No matter who you are, you have destroyed Dream Forest and thus you will pay for it,” drawled Aislina, her face empty of emotion.
“And I have heard a lot about you too. Aislina, the last elf in this world, the last breath of wilderness. After I finish you, no one will be able to threaten me anymore. You can manipulate the power of magic, but I manipulate a stronger power. You have the power of life and savage, while I have the power of death and civilization. I am the destination of history, you won’t win me, elf,” scoffed Master Mortis.
“No, I will, because the spirits of the Life are always here with me. I can sense the anger of them, and finally you will be devoured by the their rage,” warned Aislina.
“The spirits of Life? Look around you, elf! Dream Forest has been burnt to the ground by my power. This place will be lifeless barren in the future, and thus there won’t be spirits of Life here anymore,” jeered Master Mortis.
“Without my forest, the balance will …” protested Aislina.
“In fact, we humans can fix the balance on our own. We can use our own wisdom to build machines to generate oxygens, replacing the function of your forest. As for you, elf, no one will remember you, you, along with your race will be forgotten by the history. And today is your death day. Happy death day, Aislina,” smirked Master Mortis.
Aislina held out her right hand, from which thousands of leaves which were as lethal as arrows were shot towards Master Mortis.
Master Mortis rubbed his hands and a ball of blue flame was made by him. He then shot the ghastly fireball towards Aislina, which burnt all the magical leaves of Aislina into nothingness.
The ghostly blue fireball kept flying towards Aislina, who failed to dodge it and the fireball exploded as soon as it hit her.
Aislina was on fire. She was screaming because the ghost fire created by Master Mortis was torturing her flesh as well as her soul.
With twistedly bizarre laugher, Master Mortis walked towards Aislina, a whacky scythe made of bones which came from nowhere held in his hands. Like a grim reaper, he arrived besides Aislina, ready to harvest her life with his deadly scythe.
“Aislina, no!” Yanni screamed and rushed towards Master Mortis. Master Mortis didn’t notice him and ended up being knocked down by Yanni’s shield.
Floria and Starsha wanted to help them, but Sir Bellum pulled a lever on the wall, and a wall rose from under the ground and blocked Floria and Starsha’s way. They two then found themselves trapped in a small enclosed room, on the wall of which written two words: escape hatch.
Within a seconds, the escape hatch was tossed up into the sky because of the escape procedure triggered by the lever pulled by Sir Bellum. After around half a minute, the escape hatch landed into a river.
Smirking madly, Sir Bellum then clicked another button. The cannon on the fallen necroplane was launched and a missile was shot towards the escape hatch where Floria and Starsha were and blew it into smithereens.
After getting rid of Floria and Starsha, Sir Bellum walked towards Aislina and Yanni in aid of Master Mortis.
“Aislina, Aislina … Cheer up!” yelled Yanni.
“I’m on fire … I am burning …” groaned Aislina.
“Cheer up, Aislina! you can fight against it!” encouraged Yanni.
“No, I can’t. He is too powerful, I am no match for him,” moaned Aislina.
“You’re more powerful than him, Aislina, you can fight with him. Don’t give up!” exclaimed Yanni.
“She won’t win me this time. I am living with a bright future, but she is living with a hopeless future. She has been broken by me,” teased Master Mortis.
“Aislina, Aislina!” called Yanni, ignoring Master Mortis.
“He is right, I have no future,” sobbed Aislina.
“No, you have a future. And your future will be shared with me, with Floria, with Starsha … Even if you live longer than us, who will care? No one cares about what will happen after one hundred years. Leave the future shit to the future! What matters is that, now, we’re staying with you! You’re not alone …” whispered Yanni soothingly.
“Yes, I’m not alone. I can feel the forest, its rage, its sadness, and its remaining power was echoing in the air,” murmured Aislina, her eyes gradually beginning to be filled with determination once again. The fire that burnt her disappeared and her eyes commenced to glow with cerulean lights.
She held out her right hand, over which some particles of light gathered and assembled into a giant glowing flower. She then pointed this glowing flower at Master Mortis, aiming at him as if the flower were a gun.
With a sound of explosion, spores were shot out of the magical flower created by Aislina.
“I’ll get this!” roared Sir Bellum, brandishing his mace and putting himself between Aislina and Master Mortis.
The spores flew in the air at a remarkable speed and Sir Bellum tried to parry them with his mace. However, when the spores crushed into Sir Bellum’s mace, exploding on the surface of the mace, those spores finally blasted the black necrite mace into pieces.
“Shit! My mace! You b**** broke my mace!” cursed Sir Bellum.
“I said, Floria cannot harm you, but I can,” grinned Aislina.
Master Mortis didn’t say anything but tried to attack once again with his two hands burning with horrible fire.
Aislina snapped her finger, and a gigantic Venus flytrap was summoned, which grew from underground and swallowed Master Mortis and Sir Bellum whole.
“Yanni, I don’t feel well. I’ve used too much power. I am exhausted,” purred Aislina weakly.
Yanni knew that the Venus flytrap wouldn’t stall Master Mortis and Sir Bellum for long, so he picked Aislina up in his arms and began to escape.
Floria and Starsha had been ejected from here to a river with the escape hatch and shot by a cannon after that. Yanni didn’t know if they were dead or alive. What was more, Aislina was in coma, which meant that he was on his own now.
He found an exit out of the fallen necroplane, towards which he began to run.
He ran out of the necroplane through the exit but suddenly, a cold shiver ran down his back. He looked back and saw Master Mortis chasing them madly, a cold ruthless scythe held in his hands.
In a panic, Yanni saw a cavern and ran into it. Master Mortis smirked wickedly and kept floating towards him. At this moment, an idea flashed through Yanni’s mind. He started to hit the entrance to this cavern with his shield and the entrance collapsed, making the cavern sealed by the fallen rock.
“Wow, Aislina your skin is cold,” Yanni stroked Aislina’s azure hair.
“I’m tired, Yanni …” moaned Aislina in fatigue.
“Sleep, Aislina, take a rest and tomorrow we’re going to find Floria and Starsha,” whispered Yanni soothingly.
II
Aislina woke up at noon and Yanni was sitting beside her, watching her while his mind was deep in thoughts.
There was some cracks on the roof of the cavern, through which the sunlight of the noon lit up the whole cavern.
“It’s a long dream,” Aislina stretched and yawned.
“What was the dream about?” asked Yanni curiously.
“I once took you and Floria to this cavern to play in the water, remember? I dreamt about that.” answered Aislina weakly.
“Oh, I remember. That’s one year ago,” replied Yanni.
“You looked distracted, Yanni. Are you worrying about your sister and Starsha?” questioned Aislina.
“… I have no idea whether they are alive or dead. Floria and I grew up together. Mom passed away when I am only three and dad was always a careless man, but Floria always take care of me. She is the greatest sister in the world. I can’t imagine living without her,” sighed Yanni, his face brimming with worries.
“Starsha is with her, and I believe they will be fine,” Aislina reassured him.
Gently, She then gave Yanni a hug. Yanni could feel his face going red because of the intimacy with Aislina.
“Floria once told me that your face always blushed when you were with girls,” giggled Aislina.
“That’s true, and I really want to change it. It always makes me embarrassed,” stammered Yanni, his heart thumping madly.
“But it makes you adorable too,” flirted Aislina.
“Umm, by the way, have you fully recovered?” Yanni changed the topic, looking at Aislina with concern.
“Don’t worry about me. I am still having some headache, but overall I feel as good as new,” answered Aislina.
“Since that, let’s leave this cavern. I have sealed the entrance of this cavern to stop Master Mortis, and I doubt whether this cavern has an exit or not,” Yanni scratched his hair.
“I’m familiar with this cavern. It is like a labyrinth, but I know the way and I’ll guide you out of here. Come on, let’s go,” commanded Aislina.
Quickly, Aislina guided Yanni through the cavern. All the tunnels in this cavern formed a complicated maze, but Aislina was familiar with this cave, so they didn’t get lost. Soon they arrived besides a small shallow pond.
Memory flooded back to Yanni’s head. Since he first met Aislina, he had been visiting her with Floria almost weekly and Aislina would take them to play in miscellaneous places in the forests, like rivers, lakes, flowered grassland, and caverns.
Aislina seemed to be familiar with every inch of Dream Forest, including this cavern. Some rivers in the forest had been fully polluted by humans’ wastewater, but this small pond in the cavern was uncontaminated and pure.
Aislina and Yanni smiled at each other. They really shared an unforgettable memory there. That was a hot evening and Aislina took Yanni and Floria to swim in this small pond. After playing in the forest for nearly an hour, they were fully wet with sweat. At that kind of moment, nothing was more comfortable than diving into the water and having some fun in it.
Aislina and Yanni went out of the memory of the great old days. They had to face the reality. Swimming across the pond, they arrived at the other side of it. After another two hours of walking, the exit of this cavern came into their sight.
Outside of the cavern was a wide field occupied by lifeless brown weeds. They were at the outskirt of Dream Forest right now. Their current position was pretty far from Yanni’s tribe and the Grey Factory. They were safe for now.
