Chapter 32:

Don’t Give Wishes To Idiots

Relic Raiders

Kaito stood there, holding the girl who had appeared from thin air in his arms. With beautiful platinum blonde hair, a white hospital gown, and a voluptuous figure, she slept in his arms like Sleeping Beauty herself.

“Kaito… Please tell us what you just wished for,” Rina asked again. Her voice was stern, ready to judge Kaito depending on how he answered.

Kaito was snapped out of his gaze and started to explain, embarrassed. “Oh, there was a lot of pressure, so I… kinda just wished for a good-looking girl that I could protect, and that she’d likely fall in love with me…”

Rina and Khrom stood there in disbelief alongside the Demon Cult. Evona, on the other hand, seemed more intrigued by the girl in Kaito’s arms.

“Kaito…” Khrom said, breaking the tension, knowing that was not the move.

“You— are you an idiot!?” Rina let out her rage. “You could’ve wished for us to be teleported out of here, a special weapon could’ve also helped on that front! But you wished for—”

Kaito, aiming to defend himself, cut Rina off. “Hey! It’ll be fine!” Kaito explained. “Watch this…”

Kaito shook the girl in his arms to wake her up. The girl, waking up, took a moment to realize what was happening. At first, she stared at Kaito, wondering why she was in his arms, but that thought was immediately interrupted when she saw them surrounded by the Demon Cult.

“Wh— what is going on!?” the girl panicked.

“H-hey there, try to remain calm,” Kaito eased the girl’s worry. “I know you’re probably feeling overwhelmed right now, but you think you can get us out of this place.”

The girl stared at Kaito with a face that basically said it all.

“No way! Impossible! Not happening!” the girl responded, continuing her panic. “I have paralysis in my legs, there's no way I can be of any help in this situation!”

Kaito knew he had messed up. He acknowledged that he wanted a girl he could protect, but he wasn’t expecting this much of a deficiency. Kaito slowly looked at Rina. She was like a bomb, ready to explode. Kaito needed some help, and he got some unexpectedly.

“You bumbling bufoon!” the fancy-cloaked man squealed. “How can you be so selfish to wish for something like that! If we’re going to die for this, you’re going to die with us!”

The Demon cult started approaching Kaito’s party slowly. Their intent to kill was not ignorable.

Rina’s rage was now drawn to the Demon Cult. She turned towards them with a piercing gaze, as if a monster was looking into their soul. A few of the cult members flinched.

Rina was hesitant to do so before, but because of Kaito, she had no choice. She took her special weapon out of her inventory and activated it. She was getting out of this situation no matter what.

She held her weapon up high and brought it down with great force. A giant air projectile was launched towards the Demon Cult, creating a large open pathway.

“Let’s go,” Rina eerily ordered, not looking at anyone.

Everyone got the message. Rina would plow through the cult so that they could get as far away from them as possible. Following Rina’s orders, everyone ran through the opening with Kaito carrying the girl in his arms.

Cloaked figures flew, left and right, as the group ran for the exit. Making their way back to the surface courtyard, Rina used her special weapon to blast away the front gate.

“We’re out!” Kaito announced. “See, everything went fine!”

Kaito was trying to sugarcoat his blunder, but everyone had no time to humor him as they were all focused on running.

Suddenly, Rina collapsed.

“Rina!” Evona shouted out to Rina.

“This is why I don’t like using this thing,” Rina mustered, struggling on the ground.

Khrom ran back and quickly picked her up into a princess carry. Despite Rina being out of energy, Kaito’s party successfully escaped into the woods, losing the trail of the Demon Cult.

Kaito’s party, alongside the girl Kaito summoned, was now resting in a cave as they had been running all night long.

Evona was sleeping in the bed shield on the ground, Khrom keeping the fire they set up lit, while Kaito and Rina sat in two separate corners of the cave, not making contact at all. Rina was still mad at Kaito.

The summoned girl sat alone, looking around at everyone nervously since she still had no idea what was occurring.

“So what’s your name?” Khrom asked, breaking the tension in the cave.

“Huh? Me?” The summoned girl asked back, shocked at Khrom’s sudden question.

Khrom gave her a reassuring smile, signaling that he was talking to her.

“Oh, my name is Iori…” she responded sheepishly, aiming to keep to herself after answering.

Kaito flinched upon hearing her name as Khrom continued the conversation.

“Sorry our ally here got you dragged into all this mess,” Khrom apologized for Kaito.

“Hey! Don’t paint me as the bad guy here,” Kaito retaliated, breaking out of his silence.

“No, please, you don’t have to apologize,” Iori replied. “This is at least more interesting than what I was doing before… It’s just… I have many questions, but things seem too tense to ask.”

Silence broke out once again. Khrom looked towards Kaito, then to Rina, indicating that the tension would not be broken until they made up.

“I’m not talking to Kaito right now, Khrom,” she informed him, specifically to not acknowledge Kaito.

Khrom sighed. “Well, a fight between these two isn’t exactly rare, so ask away!”

“Well, for starters, where exactly am I? Who are you guys, and can I trust you? Plus, what was up with that cult!?” Iori asked a flurry of questions.

Khrom blinked, taking a moment to register all of that.

“That’s a lot to start with,” Khrom joked before answering. “Right now, you’re in the kingdom of Taelesta. I’m Khrom, that’s Rina, Kaito, and Evona,” Khrom gestured to everyone as he introduced them. “That cult we were fighting was trying to summon the Demon Lord who threatened Taelesta in the past, and well, we stopped them. Whether that makes us trustworthy or not is up to you.”

Iori looked satisfied with both Khrom’s explanation and the fact they everyone was trustworthy, but one thing still bothered her.

“Taelesta?” Iori questioned. She didn’t seem to know of that place.

“You’re in a fantasy world,” Kaito abruptly answered.

Khrom wondered if that explanation was good enough, but as Iori seemed satisfied with that answer, he didn’t question it.

“A fantasy world!?” Iori shouted, looking towards Kaito with anticipating eyes. “Does that mean I can use magic!?”

Kaito started blushing from how Iori looked at him. It’s like she had just seen her savior.

“Uh, yeah. For the most part, at least,” Kaito answered Iori. “Though first we need to get back to Giora.”

Rina glanced in Kaito’s direction, watching Iori smile in glee at Kaito’s answer, but remained silent. In fact, she remained silent for their whole trip back to Giora.
