Chapter 36:
The Devourer of Destiny
Meanwhile, on the ship The Sun, Mahendra's body grew colder as Liliana's tears continued to fall. She was disappointed in herself for not being able to protect him. However, moments later, Mahendra suddenly awoke with intensely red eyes, staring wide until he began to cry tears of blood.
"Master!"Shocked yet relieved, Liliana embraced him tightly. A moment later, she was flung away. Fortunately, she didn't fall overboard.Everyone was startled by the loud crash. His crew members quickly rushed to check on Liliana.
"Captain, are you okay?"Liliana was physically strong, as she was born with the physique of a warrior. She was grateful to have withstood the attack from the man who now stood radiating a powerful killing aura.
Wandering King and Nephilim fell silent. Their expressions were very serious, and they were extremely wary of the current Mahendra, which reminded them of an old memory."Has he awakened?" Nephilim wondered.
"Or did the curse mark make him go wild again?" Wandering King chimed in.Everyone on the ship chose to distance themselves from Mahendra. The person standing there no longer looked like the real Mahendra. Still, Liliana intended to try and bring him back.
The air felt heavy. A wave of heat permeated every corner of the ship. His red hair tips seemed to grow longer. His sharp, pale pupils were barely visible, to others, his eyes were completely blood-red.As soon as Liliana took a step forward, Mahendra heard the sound and immediately attacked.
"Be careful, Captain!"Four of his crew members who were nearby quickly blocked his attack. Liliana froze, watching Mahendra with a sad expression.
"Master, it's me! Liliana! Master!"Her calls were useless because Mahendra's consciousness was still trapped in his past memories. It was Morpheus who was in control, intentionally blocking his senses so he couldn't hear any outside sounds.
Black claws extended like a witch's talons, and a predatory growl made him look like a monster. His teeth slowly morphed into sharp fangs, and his figure became increasingly unrecognizable. It was as if he was someone else.Just blocking him wasn't enough. Mahendra, out of control, was no match for Liliana, let alone his crew, who were easily thrown aside.
His claws slashed, his fangs tore, and his fire magic burned their bodies alive. Liliana stood trembling, afraid to take another step. Eventually, Mahendra grabbed Liliana's neck, lifted her, and was about to pierce her body with his claws. Before that could happen, Nephilim’s kick disrupted everything. Mahendra was sent flying backward, not without serious injury.
Even as his body was dragged away, his blood left a trail, forming a straight path.Mahendra got back up and this time attacked Nephilim. They exchanged punches several times before their heads finally collided.
With ringing ears, Mahendra staggered backward, groaning in pain."Hahaha!" Nephilim folded his arms across his chest and laughed.
"This isn't his true consciousness. I mean, it's different from when he consciously uses his Devourer Destiny power," Nephilim said."You mean he’s completely lost control?" Wandering King asked.
"Yes, but he's only the embodiment of his past obsession. The obsession to fight," Nephilim stated.Wandering King then frowned, looking at Nephilim.
"Someone is bothering him. His true consciousness wasn't drowned but was taken away, so it makes sense that his body is dead," Nephilim explained."Hey, he's not going to just die, is he?"
"Don't worry. I'll just use my martial arts. Then I'll bring his consciousness back."Wandering King stopped Nephilim and raised his chin, pointing toward Ningsih, who was calmly walking toward Mahendra.
The deck began to groan. Gusts of wind worsened the damage to every part of the ship, including the bottom, causing it to start sinking, listing to the left. He, who seemed to control gravity, was unstoppable. The ship couldn't even bear the weight of his power. Yet, Ningsih was able to stabilize her body and walk toward Mahendra.
Ningsih's expression was as if she had lost someone very precious. Her steps may have been light, but they felt heavy as her fingers trembled.Mahendra, who was struggling to distinguish friend from foe, naturally attacked the approaching Ningsih. He didn't hesitate to direct all his magical power to make her back away from him, all while still trying to endure the pain from his head-on collision with Nephilim.
A halo-like circle of light appeared above the head of the golden-eyed girl. Ningsih paused for a moment before continuing to approach after instantly neutralizing dozens of fireballs.
A strong but thin-looking transparent shield appeared and slowly spread to cover the entire ship. One by one, specks of light fell from the top of the shield like falling snow, attaching to everyone's bodies and healing them.Torn skin became smooth again, no magic could burn the crew members' bodies, and various wounds caused by Mahendra were healed. The specks of light even repaired the ship's damage perfectly.
Just a handspan away from him, Ningsih held the man's shoulders, then slowly caressed him gently until she touched his wounded face.Mahendra froze. He didn't know what he was feeling, as his consciousness hadn't returned yet. He looked at Ningsih, who was smiling at him, feeling a sense of familiarity with her face.
"You... you... so it's you!"It wasn't the face he knew as Ningsih, but a face he knew as someone else.
Within seconds, a thick red liquid flowed from his stomach. His rage didn't subside, it grew even more vicious as he remembered the girl not as his comrade."Ma... hen... dra..." Without losing the smile on her face, Ningsih called out to him in a very soft and gentle voice.
Mahendra's consciousness instantly felt it, hearing the voice of someone he should know as a "comrade."Welcoming the dusk and the setting sun, Mahendra opened his eyes. His normal, sharp red pupils stared, confused and shocked by the situation he was in.Seeing his unexpected action, it, in turn, triggered his darkest past memory from when he was still in his old world.
