Chapter 2:
Losing Tomorrow
CHAPTER 2
His eyes drifted to the door when a girl walked in. She had brown eyes and long flowing hair, which matched the shade of her eyes perfectly. She walked in, bored and unbothered, and sat in front of him. She took a notebook out of her bulky bag and started scribbling with a pen that was in the pocket of the dress shirt she was wearing.
Fujio just stared at her, shocked that someone even came to this hidden room and then sat down even when he was right there, acting like he was invisible. He contemplated saying something, but couldn’t think of anything that didn’t sound stupid, so he just continued staring. He tried to grab his water bottle, and that’s when he noticed his sweaty palms.
“Hey...” she said, not glancing up from her sketchbook.
“H-hi”
He noticed that she finally looked up and seemed to notice his staring. She made eye contact for a second.
“Have you never seen a female up close?”
“U-uh-sorry, I-didn't...” his nervous words turned into mumbling.
“Haha! Sorry, I'm just messing with you.”
“Oh...”
Fujio looked down and twiddled his thumbs. He wanted to speak, wanted to ask why she was there, but couldn’t get the words out of his throat. He was trying to work up his courage, “come on, it’s just a question,” and “don’t overthink it,” were mantras he tried before but with no success. The sweat kept dripping down his palms, and he could feel himself tense up.
“I bet you’re wondering why I came here.” She seemed to want to continue the conversation.
Fujio looked up and tried to nod, but he later realized that it probably looked like a twitch.
“I was bored, the people in this school act like robots.”
Fujio’s eyes lit up, this was the most honest thing someone has ever said to him. It was a thought he had for a long time, and finally someone else matched him. He had to resist the urge to scream from excitement. Just then, the bell rang. His excitement crashed as she got up and left the room.
