Chapter 21:

The Game of Shadows

ATHOMIS - A HACKER'S JORNEY INTO ANOTHER WORLD

In the depths of the Eternal Void, a realm beyond reality’s veil, where shadows writhed like living serpents and the air pulsed with corrupt energy, seven figures sat around a black obsidian table. The room was an infinite abyss, illuminated by ethereal flames dancing in shades of red and black, reflecting on a chessboard carved from fallen heroes’ bones. The pieces were miniature representations of the Seven Heroes, manipulated by demonic hands. The Corruptor, a shadowy and undefined presence in the darkness, watched in silence, directing the meeting with its invisible will. The demons, incarnations of the seven deadly sins, plotted chaos, each board move sealing a kingdom’s fate. The first demon, Iragor, represented Wrath. He was a mass of twisted muscles, with skin red as fresh blood, curved horns like blades, and eyes glowing with uncontrollable fury. His hands shook with rage as he moved a piece, attacking Valthar’s hero. “I’ll face Kaelith,” he growled, his voice echoing like thunder. “His flaming ambition will be consumed by my wrath. I’ll turn him to ashes, forcing him to fight himself to the end.”Next, Gulthar, Gluttony, a obese creature with multiple mouths scattered across his flabby body, greenish skin, and teeth sharp as knives. He drooled as he advanced a piece against Ironforge’s hero. “Thorne will be my feast,” he gurgled, licking his lips. “I’ll devour his forged strength, making him swallow his own ambition until only emptiness remains.”Avaron, Greed, a slender figure with skin golden as melted gold, emerald eyes greedy, and hands adorned with rings stolen from fallen kings. He moved a piece with precision, targeting Aquilon’s hero. “Mira will fall to me,” he whispered, a greedy smile curling his lips. “I’ll steal her water relic, hoarding her power until she drowns in her own loss.”Slothar, Sloth, a lazy mass of gray slime, with half-closed eyes and slow-dragging tentacles. He yawned as he pushed a piece against Eldoria’s hero. “Elara will be my victim,” he murmured sleepily. “I’ll drain her vitality, making her succumb to inertia until her forest rots in eternal torpor.”Lustara, Lust, a seductive form with sinuous curves, purple skin like poisoned wine, hair writhing like serpents, and hypnotizing eyes. She licked her lips as she moved a piece against Necrosia’s hero. “Draven will be my toy,” she purred, her voice seductive. “I’ll corrupt his darkness with forbidden desires, making him betray his dead for a touch of infinite pleasure.”Envyra, Envy, a lean figure with greenish skin, envious eyes shifting color, and claws scratching the air. She hissed as she attacked Celestara’s hero piece. “Zeryn, the wise, will be mine,” she spat, venom in her voice. “I’ll envy her intelligence until I steal every thought, leaving her empty while I ascend.”Finally, Prideon, Pride, a tall entity with gleaming golden armor, black-feathered wings, and a perfect but arrogant face. He moved the final piece against Athos, the board’s center. “Athos, the hacker, will be my masterpiece,” he proclaimed, his voice full of disdain. “I’ll inflate his ego until he destroys himself, proving no one surpasses my divine pride.”The board trembled with the last move, the heroes’ pieces flickering as if sensing their fate. From the shadows, the Corruptor emerged, an undefined silhouette of absolute darkness, with no clear form, only red eyes piercing the soul. It directed the meeting, its voice a whisper echoing in all minds: “Go, my servants. The heroes rise, but balance is ours. Watch Athos—he is the central objective, the glitch that must be erased.”The demons dissipated, each heading to their target, while the Corruptor observed the heroes through a shadow portal, its focus locked on Athos, the hero who challenged the system itself.
