Chapter 0:
The Rebirth of Shadows
A thousand years ago, Avalon was on the verge of succumbing to darkness. The Demon King Zaroth initiated a forbidden ritual to summon a creature from the Dark Dimension, an entity of boundless power. To do so, he had to relinquish some of his own power and left himself vulnerable. Then, the people of Avalon—humans, elves, dwarves, orcs, and more—forgot their differences and fought together for the survival of the world. Three legendary heroes sacrificed their souls to mortally wound Zaroth. They did not kill Zaroth, but they succeeded in splitting his soul into three parts, each pulsing with a different essence. These were hidden deep within the earth, concealed within ancient magical seals, hidden from the eyes of the world. But evil always finds a way. During the tumult of the final battle, Kaelthar, one of Zaroth's most loyal generals, managed to escape his sealing in a moment of distraction. Wounded and weakened, he used his last energy to possess the body of a young apprentice of one of the sages. He assumed the boy's identity and infiltrated the ranks of the guardians of the secrets. It was at this moment that he discovered a fact no other servant of darkness had managed to learn: one of Zaroth's fragments had crystallized in the form of his artifact—an ancient shield, buried in some forgotten dungeon in Earthlight. The "Shield of Zaroth" was not just a relic... it was one of the Demon King's three dark hearts, slumbering, waiting to awaken.
However, Kaelthar could not touch him.
The magical seals guarding the shield acted with aversion and violence against demonic energy. Only a pure heart, untouched by the presence of darkness, could pass through the enchantments without being shattered. Kaelthar knew he needed a pawn.
Years later, encountering an old warrior who had a special son, Kaelthar secretly murdered him. He took his body, his face, his memories. And from that day on, he lived as the father of a young man named Greg.
Greg grew up believing his father guided his steps. He was spurred on by this illusory presence and trained tirelessly, determined to be a protector of the lands of Earthlight. He gathered allies, faced dangers, and rose to his own strength—shaped by Kaelthar's lies—as an ideal warrior, brought to life to open what no demon would dare touch.
When Greg and his crew finally reached the secret dungeon, the shield reacted to their presence. Upon touching it, an ancient echo reverberated throughout the world. Kaelthar felt the awakening of power. For the first time in centuries, the bond with the exiled generals became a reality. They were still imprisoned, but their consciousnesses were now stirring, awakening in the depths of the demonic continent.
Kaelthar had won the first battle.
But he didn't know about someone's prediction.
