Chapter 28:
Final Login: I Transmigrated to Save the Girl I Met in a Game
Mikan's POV:
After some time, Zack, myself, and 498 others gathered at the entrance of the dungeon, ready to move in. Mayor Lorelei had provided us with thousands of healing items, prepared for the long battles ahead. We also carried support items to help those trapped on the sixth floor. Deep down, we hoped to meet up with Kyouze and free our companions together.
I bowed deeply to Mayor Lorelei.
“Thank you for everything, Mayor. I hope… we can meet again once all of this is over.”
She smiled faintly, then pulled me into a hug, leaving me stunned.
“No, Mikan. I should be the one thanking you. And when you see Kyouze, give him my regards. Tell him… I won’t bother him anymore.”
Her words were strange, carrying a mix of sadness, humor, and mystery. I didn’t fully understand, but I nodded.
Then Zack stepped forward proudly.
“Mayor Lorelei, I, Zack Syndershoot, promise to conquer the Abyss Dungeon and return to your side as your right hand once more.”
He spoke with absolute confidence. Lorelei’s smile softened.
“Thank you, Zack. I’ll be waiting for you and for everyone else, when you come back.”
Zack saluted her, and Lorelei returned the gesture, offering a formal salute not just to us but to every player gathered there. The NPCs and players left behind on the surface bowed as well, watching us march toward the abyss.
It was a moment that filled me with both pride and determination.
As we descended, I asked quietly, “Hey, Zack. Is it really okay to leave Mayor Lorelei alone? She’s the only important figure left on the surface now.” My tone carried unease.
Zack laughed heartily.
“Mikan, you don’t know, do you? Lorelei is the strongest person in Netherbyte. If Kyouze is level eight, then Lorelei is probably level nine… maybe even level ten. I saw her fight once, against a monster wave. She was overwhelming. Strong and graceful at the same time.”
I froze, shocked. I never imagined she was hiding such power.
“Then… why doesn’t she use that strength to clear the dungeon herself? She could easily do it.”
Zack thought for a moment, scratching his chin.
“Now that I think about it, she’s never entered the Abyss Dungeon. I don’t know the reason, but… she must have one.” He grinned.
“In any case, we don’t need to worry. Lorelei Netherbyte is not just the mayor—she’s the protector of Netherbyte City itself!”
His words made me curious about her connection to the dungeon, but I pushed the thought aside and focused on moving forward.
…
On the first floor, we didn’t encounter a single monster. What we did find were the traces of Kyouze’s battles—claw marks, broken terrain, shattered EtherCode remnants. Even the boss chamber bore only a handful of strikes, the aftermath of a single devastating attack. He had defeated the floor guardian in one blow.
Everyone spoke in awe of him. Some even shed tears, remembering how many lives were lost when they fought the same boss, their battles long and bloody.
Zack’s grin was wide. “See? I told you! He didn’t even fight me at full strength back then.”
I quickly rallied everyone. “We can’t linger here. If we take too long, we’ll never catch up to him. Move to the second floor!”
They all agreed, and we pressed on.
Mayor Lorelei had entrusted me with an item before we left the [Personal Netherbyte GPS]. It could track the position of Kyouze and the other faction leaders within the dungeon. I still couldn’t believe she managed to attach tracking devices to them, especially to Kyouze, without them noticing. She had laughed mischievously when explaining it, clearly pleased with her own trickery.
The device was invaluable, but limited, it only worked if we were within one floor of our targets. At the start of the second floor, I saw that Kyouze was already on the third, moving at incredible speed.
That man… he was insane. To push through hordes of monsters alone at such a pace.
We rushed onward, finding little resistance. The second floor was still on cooldown from his slaughter, making it feel like we were running across a red carpet rolled out by Kyouze himself.
On the third floor, once meant to be a nightmare city crawling with zombies, we found only ruins. The place was completely destroyed, as if a giant monster had torn through. The ground was stained with blood, bones scattered everywhere. Even EtherCode burn marks scarred the walls. There was no mistaking it, Kyouze had been here.
The players around me whispered in fear, shaken by the brutal aftermath.
We didn’t stop. By the time we reached the fourth floor, the air was filled with a heavy mist. Then the Hollows came, swarming us instantly. Zack barked orders for the casters to unleash EtherCode Aether while swordsmen and shooters followed up. The battle was fierce, far harder than it should have been. The Hollows were stronger, several times more than usual.
I checked the GPS again. Kyouze was in the center of the floor. Then I saw it a golden dome of light pulsing in the distance. Relief washed over me.
“Head there!” I shouted. “We’ll be safe inside. And… we’ll meet Kyouze.”
My heart pounded. I was excited, anxious, even afraid. How would he react when he saw me again? Angry? Indifferent? I didn’t know, but I didn’t care. I just wanted to see him.
As we crossed the threshold of the golden dome, we found ourselves stepping into what looked like an ancient Japanese village. It was surreal.
Then someone screamed.
“A ghost! I saw someone I knew!”
Panic rippled instantly. One after another, players fell into the [Fear] condition. I turned to Zack, but he was frozen, staring wide-eyed at two figures before him.
“No… you can’t be alive. You’re dead! You’re supposed to be dead!” His voice cracked with grief and rage.
I tried shaking him, even striking him, but he wouldn’t move.
I ran toward Kyouze’s signal, desperate. But then shadows appeared—nine of them, circling me. My blood ran cold as their faces became clear.
“No… no, this can’t be! You’re dead!” I screamed, my voice breaking.
It was Rex and his outlaw party. The ones who betrayed me at the surface, who tried to kill Kyouze. Their eyes burned with anger as they whispered, accusing me of surviving when they hadn’t.
Terror consumed me. My body trembled violently.
“Kyouze… help me!”
And then it came a flash of brilliant white light that struck the shadows, burning them away.
Relief flooded me. My heart calmed instantly. Because I knew who it was.
“Why are you here, Mikan?!” The cold voice of a man who had just saved me.
“Kyouze…”
