Chapter 2:
The Female Leads Have Eyes For Only Me
I wasn’t in any pain, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t freaking out.
It all happened so fast.
One second I’m in class, and the next I’m pulled into some sort of dark void.
I can’t see a thing!
And I couldn’t move either, no matter how hard I tried.
Oh man, don’t tell me I passed out!
No, what if it’s even worse?! What if I’m in a coma?!
No, no, Tai. Calm down. There’s no way I’m in a coma. I’m fine. I’m fine…
I tried calming myself down, but came to the realization that I couldn’t breathe.
I’m so dead, aren’t I?
At this point, I was accepting my fate, whatever it might be.
That was until someone spoke.
“Greetings, oh young one. Tai Long Nguyen, I believe your name is.”
“……?!”
A woman was speaking to me. Her voice came out of nowhere.
Then, all of a sudden, a being emerged from the void. She seemed like an angel. An angel who was super tall. I mean, holy moly. She was probably around 8 feet tall if I had to guess, with ribbons and robes. She had the aesthetic of an angel, that was for sure.
Who are you? What’s going on?
That’s what I wanted to ask, but couldn’t. It was like I didn’t have a mouth.
And it seemed like the angel took notice of that.
“I’m sorry. You must have so many questions for me.” She flew towards me and caressed my face with her gentle, warm fingers. “But your body is still materializing.”
Materializing?! As in, I don’t have a body? Am I just some sort of wandering soul? Does that mean ghosts are real?!
My brain was firing thoughts at a million miles per hour. That was until the angel leaned in for a hug.
I didn’t have a body to feel it, but my soul did. I was warm. I was comfortable. I was… safe.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t have spoken with you under better conditions, but we don’t have much time.”
Time…? For what?
“The Lich Queen,” she said as if reading my thoughts. “She is on the verge of being resurrected.”
Lich Queen? Why does that sound familiar?
It took a second, but I knew where I had heard it from.
The novel! I’m really inside the novel!
Woah, woah, woah. I can freak out about that later. It seemed like the angel was going to say something important.
“If the Lich Queen comes back to life, she’ll bring even more devastating chaos to the world as her army is already growing and getting stronger with each passing day.”
Okay…
“That’s why I’ve summoned you to Eldoria, young Tai. You are one of the few keys this world has to stopping the Lich Queen.”
Woah, woah, woah.
I wanted to refute. I wanted to say, “How am I one of the ‘few keys’ to stopping the Lich Queen?”
After all, the only accomplishment that I was proud of was getting all B’s. And that only lasted for a week before my math teacher dropped a pop quiz on me.
But the angel pushed away from me and slid her slender fingers under my chin.
With a smile that could cure diseases, she told me to, “Gather friends, form a party, and befriend allies to go against the wicked Lich Queen.”
After that, a bright beam shone from behind the angel.
“It seems we’ve run out of time,” she said. “I’m sorry I couldn’t appear until after your body materialized, but the Queen of the Underworld needs help with keeping the Gates of Death closed. I must leave, but…”
She stared into my soul with gentle eyes.
“I believe in you~”
After that, the light enveloped her body, and I was stuck within the void once more.
She was nice; I thought. It sucked that she couldn’t introduce herself, but I don’t need a name to know that she’s a higher being in this world.
I think she called it Eldoria if I’m not mistaken.
I feel bad for her if I’m being honest. Seems like she's got a lot on her plate.
Which makes me even more grateful that she talked to my soul and not to me with a physical body.
Because, man, I would’ve shattered her pure heart if I'd told her the harsh truth…
With the truth being that her world was doomed if I was one of the few people she hoped would save the world.
Because, first off, I’m only 17. Puberty just kicked in and I’ve been spending my days with zero responsibilities. I don't fight. I've never been in one. They say that the best way to win a fight is to not get in one at all, and I live by those words!
Now, for the second stinker of a point, I excel at absolutely nothing. I don’t take part in any sports. I don’t excel at any academic subject.
Hell, I'm not even a big fantasy reader!
"..."
I thought about it for a bit. Having to make friends and prevent the Lich Queen from resurrecting. That means I'll have to learn to fight monsters...
…Yeah. It’s over. This world is doomed.
And I’m not being pessimistic. I’m being realistic.
There’s no way that a teenager from Earth can be sent to a different world and kick enough butt to bring world peace.
There’s just no way that can realistically happen!
After all, the greatest foe I ever went up against was a daddy-long-leg spider--and even then it was a close battle if it wasn't for the fact that I needed to get rid of it so I could shower in peace!
I'm sorry, I said to myself. To the angel and to the world of Eldoria. I'm sorry that I'm one of the few hopes this world has to stopping the Lich Queen.
