Chapter 7:
Twilight Star: First Goal
“Okay, enough goofing,” she said to herself more than Alden. “I am going to use my Lacrama to contact my team. Come join me?” Alden just shrugged. Londra rolled her hazel eyes moving to one of the couches, just in case Alden wanted to sit. This is when she noticed this one wasn’t the same as the other. She felt like a child, climbing up into the couch. She hadn’t realized this one wasn’t for humans. But this had caused Alden to smile slightly, and she thought it was comfortable.
She activated her Lacrama to see there was something that needed attention in the contracts and Adventurer’s Guild. She assumed the Contract was the one for their month stay. She felt Alden standing behind her as she excepted the draft. As her mind opened the path to her Adventurer’s Guild Account, her breath hitched. Everyone had accepted and validated their positions in her party. The happiness she felt had tears filling her eyes. “This means they accepted right?” she said out loud to cement it in her mind.
She felt Alden’s hand on her right shoulder then heard a faint, “Yes.”
“Oh, so you can speak through telepathy,” Londra responded softly.
There was a pause, and she could tell that his answer had been more than the simple, “Yes… why worry?”
“I can’t explain it,” she answered. “I… my mind is fractured. I know I lived another life and it was quite boring. I also know that my consciousnesses merged when this body was close to sixteen. I remember that her feelings and mine were so similar even if our worlds were completely different.”
“More,” she heard a bit louder than the first few words he sent to her.
“Okay, like looking at the projection of my Lacrama reminds me of a menu on a tablet but I can’t tell you why I think that or what a tablet is. Also, those kinds of memories come with sharp quick headaches,” she confided. “Not this time because I already had that one… okay, here I go.” With that she used her Lacrama to contact Zeke.
A moment later the vision before her face widened, showing an unfamiliar room with strange yellow walls. What made her smile the most was seeing they were all in the same room. “Hey grey goblin,” she started softly, her voice full of emotion. “We made it.”
Alden studied the creature on the projection and couldn’t tell what it was besides weak and grey with dull eyes. Actually, as he looked around at the others coming into the frame, they all looked weak and boney but had just a hint of hope in their dull eyes. Two appeared to be humans with red hair, one was a Fairy that was almost as grey as what he assumed was a Goblin of some type. There was a human looking male with auburn hair, but he didn’t think he was human while there was an enhanced non-human appearing to be a Armored Skin. That was impressive, he hadn’t met many Lizard Men that evolved all the way.
“Yea, we did, Captain of the Twilight Star. The best Adventuring Party this continent will ever see,” Zeke responded with just as much emotion. “Who is the pretty Elf behind you?” This caused the only female to move closer to get a look and Alden trying to hide her emotions.
Londra chuckled, “This is Alden. He is under a curse and can’t speak.”
“Well, that sucks,” the red head said with a frown. “Hello, Alden. I am sure he has plenty to say. We are so glad you contacted us. I wasn’t sure if you were coming back or not…”
“Julianna, slow down,” Londra smiled. “Okay Alden,” she began pointing to the people in the projection. “Julianna, her twin brother Julius. Zeke is the Warrior Goblin; he had lots of muscles four years ago. The droopy Fairy in Fenten. The one that looks human but not quite is Robert. He is an Angellea whose wings are permanently inside him for his protection. The last is our cynic with a good heart, Icarus. He had lots of muscles too.”
“All true,” Robert smiled weakly. “Call me Robbie, please. Guess what Londra…”
“Oh, I have no idea,” Londra responded honestly. “Too much has happened today.”
“Well, it gets to happen tomorrow too,” Icarus commented causing Robbie to pout a little.
“Really!” Londra bounced excitedly causing the others to smile brightly.
“Yes, a stiff but kind Goblinesta told us that it is a gift from the Archduke since three of the Lords were horrible,” Fenten said weakly before reverting back to his small Fairy form, sitting on Julius’ shoulder. “Jee, I wonder which ones,” he added softly.
“Yep, once you get here, we are all being escorted to the Apothecary by the same three that took you,” Julius started. “I guess it is for research but not having to walk is fine by me.”
“Then we get to go get shoes!” Icarus said happily. This caused all of them to chuckle since he had told them all he didn’t wear shoes when he was a Lizard Warrior.
“Depending on the time,” Julianna continued, “we will either eat or get clothing. He is paying for two sets of clothing and pajamas like you received. Isn’t that nice!”
“Yes,” Londra agreed happily. “I have underwear and a support on right now. I haven’t worn such interesting garments for years.” This caused all seven of them to laugh gently while Alden’s face didn’t change but his ears did show his confusion if anyone was looking.
“Are we really staying at Davie’s Den?” Zeke inquired. “That is in the heart of the southern part of town where non-humans are welcome… in most places.”
“And close to the Adventurer’s Guild, or at least what is left of it,” Julius added. “They asked everyone if the receptionist and guild master should stay after what they were forced to do.”
“The consensus surprised them,” Icarus stated. “Most said they didn’t care since both tried to warn us off. They were just being used and watched so…” he ended with a shrug.
“Okay, my turn,” Julianna started. “On every other Friday at the Den, Shasa is dragged in by that horrible… male. Can we please purchase her? We knew Beastpeople from the Snake tribe before our family was forcibly moved here. We have to help her soon or she will die!”
“A group helped us,” Julius added. “It was before… yea.”
“I planed on that,” Londra explained with a smile. “Even have Depositors coming to verify our contract at about the same time. Master Yevhen taught me how to transfer a contract and even let me practice on his cows.”
“Wait, what? He has his cows enslaved?” Zeke asked loudly.
“Yes, they were being stolen. It was an easy fix for him and now he knows when they need milking. It was different being attached to a cow,” Londra admitted as Alden huffed behind her. “I don’t think he liked sharing the link with a cow,” she giggled.
“How are you getting here?” Robbie asked when the laughing subsided.
“Well, I don’t like it, but they thought it would be good for me to order Alden to carry me. I guess he can run really fast, and it would make it look like I wasn’t receiving too much extra from the Archduke for saving his grandson,” Londra finished with a sigh.
“True. True,” Icarus stated. “I can see it since there is already a rumor running around that the three lords were horrible and tried to cheat you. Even if it is stupid, it looks bad on the Duke and Archduke that is why we are being moved instead of you getting more money.”
“To add to that,” Robbie continued, “we are paying with our money because we are proud… not too proud though. Nobody here is going to pass up some free food, shoes, or clothing. We are glad to say we paid for it to keep the rest satisfied. We even complained a bit about it when we were with the other groups getting healed. The Knights just nodded trying to hide their approval.”
“Is Fenten asleep?” Londra asked, noticing they were all beginning to yawn.
“Yes,” Julius confirmed. “I would love to keep talking. We never got to do this before because we were always so exhausted, it was nice.”
“I will see you in the morning,” Londra smiled. “Around eight?” she felt Alden agree so she nodded. They waved to each other before the projection disappeared.
Londra slid off the couch, a bit clumsily, causing Alden’s ears to wiggle in amusement. “I am taking a shower! Then sleeping in a real bed!” she yelled before heading to the left bathroom that she dubbed female. “You can shower too. I don’t think anything can get to us, or even knows where I am. Take advantage of the quiet,” she added heading into the room after pulling her pajamas out of her blood bag with just a thought. “Yes, this is better,” she sighed happily as the warm water washed over her.
