Chapter 9:

Yellow submarine

[English] Clã de Ataque

“ … I didn't get any skill either.”

I hear Biel.

My head is still spinning … My back is soaking, did I sleep on top of the wet leaves? The sunshine blinds me.

Where are Daniel and José?

Who is this girl? I kinda recognize those long black hair with red details, those undertow caramel eyes …

“Hey! He woke up!” She says.

“Finally. You're so lazy, man.”

I try to smile. I'm so tired, though.

“I missed you, Biel. Where are we?”

He points and says “We spawned in that direction”

I see, they went for the river. I check my body. Spear, check. Future Bow, check. Cordage, check. Shivs, check. Knife, …

“Do you guys have a blade?”

They stare at each other, then back at me and make faces. Guess that is a no …

Are things going to be even harder than before? I can't take this anymore.

“ I think we should plan what to do. Which skill did you get? “ Biel starts

“I went for survival. Basic gathering, basic traps, basic crafting, keen audition, bow crafting and archery.”

“Cool! That is great! Have you seen that manga called 'Divindade de Ouro'? It is about this indigenous little girl and an army veteran […] “

What is this girl talking about?

How didn't Biel lash out at her yet? Fine, I'll do it myself.

“Anyway. We need to get somewhere higher and relatively plain. To get proper shelter.”

She seems a bit surprised and irritated by that.

I ignore it and point to the northeast, and they follow suit.

My body feels so heavy, my head is killing me. I cannot help but walk with my head down and with my hand over my right eye.

She starts humming and singing quietly

“We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine”

For some reason, my blood boils. Why is she so chipper? Are we not in the same world?

“Goddammit! Can't you shut up?”

She turns to me. The glitter in her eyes turned to raging fire.

“YOU shut up! I took you out of that camp! Who knows where you'd be now if it wasn't for US! Bibiri-kun”

I feel terrible, I'm getting dizzy and I feel so cold.

“What does that even me[…] “

THUMP

“Honestly, I never thought I'd see either of you lash out like that.”

I wake up considerably better. I feel human heat below my head and the back of a hand feeling my forehead. I hear the girl's voice very close.

“ … I'm sorry. I didn't know he was this bad …”

“Nah. He was being rude. You do talk a lot, though.”

I open my eyes. My head is on her lap, and we're both on dry leaves. I sit in a jump. I feel myself blushing.

“You should rest. I got some points in basic medicine to help you. We used your bamboo cups to get some water into you. Eat this, I SA EE”

She looks at Biel looking for approval, and he confirms with a smile. They seem to be working a lot better together than my previous team.

…

Am I a third wheel here? What happened in that camp? They don't see nearly as strained as we were.

Biel asks, “What have YOU been through?” Apparently, he can read my mind now. Haha

I feel tired just thinking about it, but I tell them how my last two days went. I tear up of sheer shame when I get closer to the end and remember what happened at the camp, before I got KOed … That is sooo pitiful.

They listened, but don't seem to know what to say.

After some time, Biel breaks the silence.

"Seems like this isn't a breezer of a world to live in. I think we all should get basic medicine and gathering at some point. "

"How about weapons mastery?" I interject.

"I don't know. Looks terrible to me. Can't we just practice with the weapons? That is, if we ever even get the chance to have one." He answers.

Actually, that is true. Why am I so stupid?

Joy then adds "Keen senses seems like the most broken ones. It is the most ethereal stuff in the tree. I mean, everything else feels like we could get by finding the right book. Provided such books even exist. God, I hope …"

She stops herself, looks down and completes

"I'm sorry."

…

The situation is getting more and more awkward.

Biel solves it:

"Well. Actually, didn't your story have someone with a sword made of fire and another one transforming into a beast?"

"Yes. I don't really understand the system. Everything that I did and only got …"

I check the skill tree before making my point.

One new point? Does that mean they didn't successfully beat the camp and that boss? Or I was somehow not in the conquering party?

Cannot say it's unexpected, but it is still frustrating.

"I only got 2 points. So we should plan it very well."

Biel retorts

"Wait, only two points? Does that mean you didn't get any XP for anything you did? I got 2 points and did nothing."

Joy seems even more confused

"This doesn't make any sense, I've got 4. I didn't do anything."

What? Are the devs into this girl or something?

To be honest, her progression is closer to what seemed to be happening with Daniel. It also makes a little more sense than mine. Every point gets less and less relevant.

Archery is already way worse than bow crafting, and itself is WAY worse than basic traps. With my progression, I'd never come close to ever becoming a competent hunter.

Changing the world, becoming a hero or whatever is the power fantasy of people these days would be completely impossible.

But how did SHE get the points? She is completely different from Daniel.

Tsk, I cannot think about this right now, my head is starting to spin.

I take the shivs and give them.

"I need rest. Use these shivs, cut bamboo. We’ll need it for shelter."

They agree and quickly vanish into the woods.

I feel terrible. I am lesser than Joy, and I have no idea why. I was lesser than Daniel, and I cannot say I understand THAT either. I've got thrown into a whole new world and nothing changed — I'm still feeling useless.
