Chapter 44:
The Devourer of Destiny
He was Gupta, an old friend of a man named Asyura.
"I'm grateful to meet you in a place like this, Mahendra."He even knew Mahendra, despite them never having been close.
"Don't be surprised that I know your name. Like I said, after I died, I learned who you are. I've also seen many of your memories, including the ones you're having right now," Gupta explained."Then why did you come to meet me?" Mahendra asked.
Gupta shook his head, saying, "I'm sorry. This must be because of Asyura. He's the one who brought you to a place like this.""What do you mean by shaking your head and then suddenly apologizing?" Confused by Gupta's response, Mahendra asked again.
"Like I said, I apologize because Asyura brought you here for me. He wants you to take me with you, to get out of this place," he explained again."Asyura... before that, I wasn't told to do this by anyone. I came here to find out my true identity."
"It's up to you, but one thing is for sure, my friend must have planned this as well."Mahendra was hesitant to continue the conversation with him. He felt strange about the presence of someone's soul in the Memory Pool. Mahendra took a step back, acting cautious, wanting to leave immediately.
"I am not a god, I am not a demon, nor am I an angel. I am just a human who has died. My soul is divided into two. One is me, who is here, and the other is inside Asyura's sword."Mahendra's steps stopped. He was shocked to hear the statement. The soul in front of him did not have bones, flesh, skin, or blood. That was a fact.
"Asyura... I've heard this name mentioned by you many times, even in my memories from before the Devourer Destiny awoke," Mahendra said.Gupta nodded. "Yes. That's right." He then added, "Asyura Ayah is the person who is now nicknamed The Wandering King."
Mahendra's suspicion was proven true. The young man who used a white cloth to cover his eyes was indeed the Wandering King."That's why, as his friend, I am truly sorry for his mistakes."
Taking one step after another to approach Mahendra, Gupta did not look like a cunning person or someone who was good at playing dirty tricks."I also came here because I wanted to know my true identity."
"Alright, let's just say that's the case, but the truth is he's using you to take me away from here. That's what he wants," Gupta said."If that's the case, what if I don't want to go to the Memory Pool? Will he force me?"Gupta laughed softly. He covered his mouth for a moment while looking away, trying to hold back his laughter as much as possible.
"Maybe," Gupta replied. The longer he talked to him, the safer Mahendra felt. After all his memories came back to him, he strangely didn't feel it was a burden. Instead, he felt a sense of lightness. He wasn't sure if it was because he was easily able to accept reality, or because of Gupta's calm demeanor.
Gupta then told him about the Asyura he knew. At first, they were just friends from the same village, training partners, and rivals. A sword was that person's main weapon. He had a cold heart when facing enemies, but a soft heart when he was with his family. Originally, he was just an ordinary human, at least until he finished the war in the Red Sea.
"I know you two are very great. You are experts in using swords, and you are even able to survive in that extreme war situation. At least if I hadn't been there, maybe you would still be alive today.""Do you know who attacked you?"
"Yes, I saw him. He is your enemy, but I don't know him. Except for the person who was behind the killer," Mahendra replied."From now on, remember every memory from your past. Don't miss a single one, or you will regret it. And pay attention to every word of Asyura, because it will be good for you."
Gupta even warned Mahendra about every word of the Wandering King that he had ever heard.Including the sentence, "Never show your weakness in front of many people."
"Sigh, I know," Mahendra said, exhaling."Including that woman," Gupta added.
"Huh?"At that time, Mahendra's memories were still in the process of completely merging with his former self. So, he wasn't aware of who Gupta was referring to.
Half of Gupta's soul then floated and entered Mahendra's body. Just a few seconds later, the soul entered and fell asleep inside him. Mahendra, who was too late to react, could only stand frozen with a shocked expression."I guess I have to bring this half-soul to the Wandering King."
Mahendra quickly got up from there and approached Ningsih, who was leaning against the tree. The girl slowly began to open her eyes and then stood up, looking at him.
"Now you must remember how you ended up sleeping inside the black crystal, right? I'm curious about your name."There was no clear response from the girl. She suddenly ran towards the edge. The thin wall there showed a view of the sky filled with white clouds. However, what she was looking at was far below the sky itself.
"What are you looking at?" Mahendra asked, now standing beside the girl.Again, the girl did not respond. All this time, she had just been silent. Even the smile that was always on her face had now disappeared as if the person Mahendra knew was no longer there.
"You've been so quiet all this time. I'm confused. What's wrong with you?" Mahendra asked again.
The God's Necklace that the Wandering King had put on was still perfectly intact. The chain that acted as a leash hung long enough to reach his waist. She then held the bottom end of the chain and slid her fingers until they touched the end of the chain that restrained the man's neck. Then, she pulled it tightly, bringing their faces close together.
"I'm not sure if you'll answer my question now, but I'll ask anyway." Mahendra sighed for a moment before asking again, "What's wrong with you?"As usual, the girl still didn't respond. Mahendra felt strange, as her gaze felt unfamiliar and cold.
Then the girl pushed his body, which instantly made Mahendra lose his balance and tumble backward, breaking through the thin wall.Behind the thin wall that separated the Memory Pool from the entrance to the Upper Realm made of a collection of white clouds, was the human realm below.
And Mahendra was deliberately pushed to fall from this very high place. She stood right on the edge of the thin wall, revealing, "I am your enemy."
