Chapter 8:
My Strongest Familiar
After the club, she brought the scroll home, but not to her home in the human world.
“Welcome back, Your Majesty.”
They had arrived at the demon land's Capital Castle, where Meline previously resided. The enormous distance between here and the human world could be traveled in an instant thanks to Meline’s teleportation magic. Upon her arrival, her servants immediately greeted her. They don’t verbally greet Kade, but they give him a nod whenever he arrives with her.
“Can you call Letosis to the throne room? I need to have a word with him.”
“Right away, Your Majesty.”
Meline had arrived directly in the throne room. She headed for the throne and sat down. Kade sat down in a smaller chair on her left, specially prepared for him. Not long after, a small man entered the room. He was dressed in a cape that covered most of his body.
The people of the land called his tribe the dwarves. They're small, the size of a human child, but they're not to be underestimated. They were blessed with great talents. Some could wield weapons three times the size of their bodies, others were gifted in the realm of magic.
Letosis bowed his head before Meline. It's easy for Kade, who had lived together with her for ten years, to forget that the girl is, in fact, a demon lord.
Standing before them was an equally powerful person, the head of the demon’s council of magic.
“Let's get straight to the chase, I haven't cooked dinner,” Meline said. Some of her words make her sound more like a housewife than a demon lord.
“I have with me a scroll. It is quite an interesting item indeed. It's coated with a kind of mysterious magic, and its contents do not sound like any of the ancient languages, despite using Herian letters.” She handed the scroll to Letosis, who took it with great care.
With careful movements, Letosis opened the scroll. His eyes, hidden beneath his hood, scanned through the contents.
“I am no linguistic expert, Your Majesty, but even in the languages I do know, this is not one of them.”
While he isn't the best linguist in the country, he does have a wide knowledge when it comes to languages. He basically confirmed that this language isn't a common one.
“While the magic itself… it is quite strong… Please excuse me. I have a correction, Your Majesty; it is very strong. Even before I entered the room, I could sense it. I could sense it from your arrival.”
Letosis is much more sensitive compared to both Linda and Meline, but even he shouldn't be able to sense magic from his place far away from the throne room.
“I have reached the conclusion that this magic is something comparable to the hero’s sword.”
“I see… so we reached the same conclusion.”
Meline had come here hoping a talk with him would shed light on the situation, but as it turned out, there wasn't anything new to gain.
“Would you like me to investigate?”
“Sure, but take care not to damage it. That’s not mine.”
“Very well, Your Majesty. Please excuse me.”
Letosis rolled up the scroll and left the throne room.
