Chapter 34:
Fist of the Bancho Rider
Nraltia blast the Golem with Frigid Blast, another wave of cold, a thin sheet of ice coating the Golem's skin, steam still rising. Unlike Absolute Zero, this spell wasn't as strong, allowing the Golem to continue moving.
Attacking with it's cables, the Golem sweeps out, targeting all three. Shards of rock and dirt blast out, forcing them back.
"Tch. It's definitely working. But it's not enough, not yet."
Rushing in, Reiji once again ignites his Yang Ki, flames of black and white, dancing on his fist. Grabbing the Golem, he slides, under it, burning away the sheet of frost covering it's skin.
"Last time, blast it again Tia!"
It's small plasma blades, stab out, piercing him, but a loud klang echoes out, Souma's blades intercepting the plasma blade.
Repeating her spell, a new sheet of frost covers the Golem, spreading from it's sides, until it covered the shoulder down to the waist.
"Whats next?"
"Get me it's greatsword."
Nodding Souma disappears, using Shadow Strike, he reappears on the otherside, blades falling, into the Golem's wrist, slicing through it. Kicking the falling Greatsword, Souma sends it' flying towards Reiji.
Leaping into the air, Reiji grabs the greatsword, using the inertia, he kicks off the cieling, stabbing the sword through the ice, piercing into the Golem's body. It's two cables lash at him, trying to eviscerate him, but two arcs of light flash through the air, silver light and azure lightning, Nraltia and Souma destroying them.
With a cocky grin, Reiji punches the hilt of the greatsword, his ki exploding with Howling Storm, piledriving the greatsword completely through the Golem, destroying it's core, propping up the Golem's corpse.
With a last mechanical whine, the light fades from the boss, it's mechanical heart destroyed, it's energy lines fading from red to black.
Reiji falls on his butt, his hands bracing himself. "Damn... that was... a workout..."
"It's finally over..." Nraltia breathes a sigh of relief, clutching her spear as support.
"..."
The sounds of clapping echo out shortly, as Xenon walks towards them.
"Well done, you three. It was looking dicey there, but you eventually managed to defeat it." Scratching his chin, Xenon calmly analyzes the three. "Having said that, I'd have to rate your performance as barely acceptable."
"... Yes, master." Souma nods apologetically.
"Huh? What the hell are you on about? We beat it didn't we?" Reiji roars, glaring daggers at him.
"Calm down Reiji, let's listen to him first." Nraltia says pulling on his clothes.
"Yes, you barely pass because you were able to beat it. But you were barely able to." Pointing to each figure, Xenon listed off a list of critizism and area of improvement.
"Souma, you have high speed, and quick attacks, but you lack teamwork. You're too used to fighting alone, as someone on the outside, you need to read the flow of battle and intervene, either take out enemy quickly, or in the golem's case, disable enemy attacks, before it can be used against your team mates. I know you're worried about Kiba's safety, but you should be able to find openings for Kiba to help attack and then retreat into your shadow."
"Nraltia, you can use do both melee and spells, but in your group as the only spell caster, you should use spells more. With your versatile spells, you could sway things in the favor of your team members. If you can combine spells with your melee attacks, you would be able to unleash even more devestating skills. It's something the Alicia came up with, combining her medium spells into her attack skills, to exponentially increase their attack power while using less MP."
"Finally, Reiji. You're Yin-Yang Ki consumes too much Ki. You're using it a passive buff along with skill triggers, alongside Rage, but you should be able to use it all the time. Ki is different from mana, it can be recycled. When you attack, you should circulate the Ki to recover parts of the cost. Basically if you're attacking with 100 Ki points, you should be able to recycle at least 50."
Seeing Reiji's gritted teeth, Xenon smiles before saying his final part. "Apart from that, as the front line fighter, you're doing fine, covering for your party members. It shows that you have quite a lot of experience fighting with others."
The three infront of him nod, accepting the words of advice from the Guild Master, some more reluctantly than the others. Unable to refute those words, they could only silently accept his criticism.
"Well, that's why you were brought here. To train and get stronger. During the next month, you three will live together as one unit, working you way down towards floor 50. By the end of the month, you should have found a way to overcome your weakness, as well as improve yourselves to the point where you can be considered a full fledge gold rank adventurer."
"Oh and don't forget that you need to class up into the Sage class, Miss Nraltia. To do that, you need the Red Mage class to reach 40, and then you need to use the Advance Class item to advance into a Sage class."
"Advance Class Item? What's that?" The luporine ask, tilting her head and ears.
"It's a key item, that can be dropped randomly from boss monsters. Once a Class reaches level 40, you won't be able to increase it's level unless you advance it."
"A random dropped item from boss monster?" The oni repeats those words, thinking on what was missing. "Wait does that mean the reason we need to reach floor 50 is because of it?"
"That's correct. The floor 50 boss monster is known to always drop the Advance Class Item."
"Tch. You've got everything figured out don't you. For some reason that really ticks me off." Reiji grumbles under his breath.
"Hehe. It comes with age and experience. Now If you'll excuse me. I have Guild Master duties to attend to. I also need to coordinate with the other Gold rank parties, in the search for corrupted areas. We still have no idea where the seal is after all."
With a final wave, Xenon walks through the no longer sealed door, activating the teleporter to return to the surface. Leaving behind the three members of the forced party, to venture deeper into the Grand Dungeon, to train according to his instructions."
