Chapter 36:

A Former God?

Blades of the Shattered Chaplets: 2nd Novel

The whistling wind forced open the door in the storming rain and cold that formed. Footsteps creaked on the wood floor of a log cabin slowly and steadily. A menacing aura fluttered in the air from both men. One stood tall and cocky. The other sat in a depressed, but confident state.

“Yo. I’m Reiken Ento. I assume you are Kaibo.”

Kaibo did not move from his spot. In fact, he was dead asleep with the towel over his face and a fire that lit half the room in front of him.

Reiken: “That’s okay. I’ll wait. Mind if I take a seat? Oh, my apologies. You are asleep. I should not be bothering your slumber. I’ll just shut my mouth and sit and wait.”

Kaibo: “What do you want?”

Reiken: “Oh my! Please do not scare me like that.”

Kaibo: “Cut the bullshit pretty boy.”

Reiken: “You can see me through there? Marvelous! I am but a passing merchant and needed to take shelter from the storm. Can I pay you for a meal?”

Kaibo sighed and took the towel off his face. He sat up heavily disturbed by not being able to nap properly. He leaned forward closer to Reiken and peered into his eyes with a death stare for a few seconds before answering.

Kaibo: “Why of course. Welcome to my humble abode. I will not charge, but you may find something over there. Take what you’d like…Is that what you want me to say?”

Reiken: “A feisty one you are. I do not mind that attitude, but some people need to be put in their place. I don’t expect anything less from a former Great Swordsman. In fact, if I did my research correctly, you were originally nominated to be number 1 many years ago, is that right? You planned to go against God if I am correct, and the Devil stopped you because of some stupid concept of not wanting violence. Ah, that must be an old tale. That certainly cannot be true. Someone that was going against the realms? No, that cannot be right. Well, I wonder why you did not receive the title of number 1.”

Kaibo sat back in his chair and put the towel back over his multicolored eyes without answering.

Reiken: “Ah, sorry. I didn't mean to touch on a soft subject. Hmm, I wonder what this vase is made out of…Whoops! I dropped it. I am so sorry…Oh my, it is forming back together on its own. Look at that.”

Kaibo: “Who told you my name?”

Reiken: “Oh, just a young girl. She begged me to come and save you, so that is what I chose to do because I enjoy helping others and my heart continues to get bigger and bigger everyday. I cannot help but see others happy. It just makes me so happy!”

Kaibo: “Did you kill the girl?”

Reiken: “My, my. There is no trust with you, is there? I did not kill the girl. In fact, I promised her that I would come and help you.”

Kaibo: “You can help by leaving. How about that?”

Reiken: “Hmm, I refuse. Rumor is that you did some damage in the past to some important people. Big leaders of groups were killed and your name was pinned on them. My only assumption would be that is why you weren’t selected as number 1. Is that true?”

Kaibo: “What if it is?”

Reiken: “Hmm, you’re right. It doesn’t matter because that is the past, but we can only move forward to the future. I know that you understand that. What appeals to me the most is this beautiful cabin. Did you build it? No, no. You couldn’t have. You were a former Great Swordsman. Oh, excuse me, no you were not. You just like to say you were. Silly me. History is getting a little twisted now. There is no reason to use your time and abilities on such trifling matters.”

Kaibo: “You’re lucky I can’t leave here or I would find whatever little gadget you’re using and then kill you.”

Reiken: “No, no, no, no. That’s not the response I wanted. I wanted to be friends, buddies, colleagues. Why is there such hostility? Ack, nevermind that. If I may ask, can I see what this barrier on this cabin is really made of? May I stab you with this small knife?”

Kaibo: “There is a reason I was nominated as a swordsman. I’m not like all the other idiots, especially whoever carries those titles today. I don’t know who the top swordsman of this era is, but I can assure you, I’m stronger than them. Touch me and I’ll do more damage than you can imagine.”

Reiken: “Kaibo, you make me so sad. I am just…Disappointed! I wanted this to be a mutual relationship. Like an Ant and Aphid perhaps. Well, I will ignore your empty threat seeing as you cannot even leave this barrier. However, out of all of the places I have visited recently, this is most definitely the strongest. It’s probably stronger than anything I have ever seen. No wonder you cannot escape here. I wonder what is controlling it…”

Kaibo: “You’re lucky that I don’t really care anymore and have gotten lazy. Otherwise, I would’ve got up from this comfy chair and stabbed you right in the heart. Although, that wouldn’t kill you anyways. I hope someone one day destroys whatever sword you're using and sends you 1000 miles into the ground.”

Reiken: “As much as I would love to test that theory, I am pretty confident in my abilities. You see, I will not divulge my secret, but maybe you should focus less on swords, and focus more on the strength of what chaplets can offer in their purest form. Ah well, you have disappointed me beyond belief. But! Do not fret because I am able to test at two more things.”

Reiken stabbed himself in the arm with his knife to see if it would heal while he was inside the barrier, but it did not. It simply continued to bleed and he wrapped it himself.

Reiken: “Well, well. This is a fine built barrier just for you. There must have been some serious work put into this. Well, you have fun. I am off. I cannot use it like this. See you later, that is, if there is a later.”

The door shut on the frosty cabin in the ongoing snowstorm. Reiken walked 25 paces forward and turned around. With his hands, mana lines did not occur, but black and white spots instead all over. He lifted them on both sides slowly, lifting the ground outside of the cabin. The snow started to build around the cabin like a giant snowball, encompassing it inside before eventually crushing like a soda can.

However, once the technique finished, the cabin regenerated instantly with not one difference in anything.

Reiken: “Lovely, just lovely. I’ll do this another 100 times and see if anything changes. Let’s see how you like dying 100 times, Kaibo. Test my theory for me, you lowlife. I’ll save this world the only way I can!”
