Chapter 37 – The Battle That Changed the Course of Power
The air was heavy with smoke.
From above, Shinra floated in his ghostly form, looking down on the land where he had once played and laughed. Now, everything was in flames.
Houses burned. Thick black smoke climbed into the sky. The screams of villagers mixed with the clash of steel and the roar of fire.
Shinra's eyes widened."Why… why is Wisdom burning? This looks just like the last war…"
But this wasn't a distant battlefield. This was Ascor Village—his childhood home—caught in the storm of war.
---
Wisdom had always relied on its outer villages to protect its heart.
Guard Village was the first shield. Its people had held strong for generations, but now Guard was gone, crushed and burned to nothing.
The enemy had moved forward, and the next line of defense was Ascor Village.
Refugees from Guard had fled here, only to face another storm. Now, the people of Ascor stood as the last wall holding back the Governor's army.
---
The villagers did not beg for mercy. They had lost too much already.
Parents hid their children underground, then picked up swords, spears, or even farming tools.
Old men leaned on broken spears. Mothers carried the blades of their fallen husbands.
They fought not to win, but to make the enemy bleed for every step.
Shinra's chest tightened as he watched.
"They're not just villagers… they're fighters who refuse to give up."
---
The village shook with violence.
Spells exploded in the streets. Fireballs crashed into rooftops. Arrows rained down, cutting down men and women alike.
The ground trembled with every clash of steel. Screams filled the air, only to be silenced in an instant.
From above, Shinra saw Ascor drowning in fire and blood.
"This is it…" he thought. "This was the battle that broke Wisdom. The moment everything changed."
---
Through the smoke came a powerful voice.
"Hold the line! Push them back!"
Lucas appeared, sword glowing with mana, cutting through the enemy soldiers. His strength and presence rallied those around him.
Behind him came Hiroshi and Sofia.
Shinra's breath caught. His father's face was firm, his blade sparking with lightning mana. Beside him, Sofia's twin swords slashed through the chaos with deadly precision.
Their arrival gave the villagers hope. The battle raged harder, the defenders refusing to fall.
---
And then Shinra saw them.
In the heart of the Governor's army stood two dark silhouettes. They did not fight, but their presence alone shifted the tide.
Soldiers near them became stronger, fiercer, while the defenders around them slowed, their strikes weak and heavy.
One of the silhouettes raised a hand.
Dozens of villagers collapsed instantly—no blade touched them, no spell was cast. They simply fell dead, their blood staining the dirt.
Shinra froze.
"What… what are they?"
He could feel the truth even if the vision didn't show their faces. This was no ordinary power.
---
Lucas's eyes locked onto the shadows. He shouted over the battle:
"Hiroshi! Sofia! With me!"
The two nodded, charging beside him. Hiroshi's lightning-charged blade cut forward, Sofia's swords moved like flames.
Together they carved a path through soldiers, heading straight for the enemy's center.
---
Shinra felt the faint glow of the ring in his pocket. It pulsed softly, keeping his eyes locked on the battle.
He could not look away, no matter how much he wanted to.
His parents and their allies were running straight toward the enemy's strongest power.
Toward the silhouettes who had already crushed Ascor's defenders.
---
The line broke.
Lucas, Hiroshi, and Sofia pushed through the enemy, their faces lit by fire, their blades raised.
The two dark silhouettes waited. One tilted its head, as if mocking their courage.
The ground rumbled. Mana ripped through the air.
The clash was only seconds away.
And then—everything froze.
The vision locked in place, holding Shinra on the edge of revelation.
