Chapter 19:

Take this dungeon boss!

How the wicked witch became the hero's sidekick

Just a few moments before the claw hits us, Sisli rushes in our direction, standing on a moving vine. Knox is also hanging on the vine with both hands. With the vine she hits the claw aside, but the dragon cuts down the vine with his other claw. Not far from me, Knox and Sisli fall roughly to the ground.

"Ahhh!" Sisli shouts.

"Attention!" Caspian shouts while holding his hurting arm. Sadly, he can't help us like that, and he is also too far away to be healed.

Suddenly stones crumble from above. I look at the ceiling and realize that the stone cones above the dragon seem a little loose. Discreetly I swing my hand and focus on the loose stones on the ceiling. They slightly glow purple and shake. Now they fall onto the dragon's heads.

While the dragon is distracted, I heal Knox's and Sisli's wounds from a distance as much as possible. Then I grab a mana potion from my bag and drink it to restore my mana. But with my actual mana consumption, it's hardly of any use.

After a short pause, the dragon now rushes towards me with his maw. Nearly in front of me, the dragon stops as I release some of my dark magic aura. The dragon must realize what powers I have. He looks with his creepy eye in my eyes. That's too suspicious.

Probably I should let the dragon hit me slightly or something like that. But this thought is unnecessary; as my mana reaches its limit and my powers subside, the dragon reaches out with his claw. I grab Sisli and throw her in Knox's direction. I see him catching her as the claw of the dragon hits me and throws me several meters away.

For a second everything is dark. I hear a voice calling...

"Aria!" someone is shouting.

But I can't assign who is talking, as a continuous beeping sound echoes through my ears and I only perceive my surroundings muffled and blurred. That was not the slight hit I had in mind to look less suspicious. And anyways, this is all much too difficult.

Will they defeat the dragon without me? With not much mana left, my wounds glow very flickeringly, and my healing powers only work very slowly. Slowly, my vision became clearer, and I see Sisli in front of me.

"Don't die! Ok?" she says and wraps us into a barrier of plants.

"Don't ... worry..." I say.

Through a little gap in the barrier, I see Lionel, who has his sword back. He sprints, roaring at the dragon. While Knox is hitting the dragon multiple times with frontal blows, Lionel jumps from a ledge onto the dragon's back. His sword starts glowing golden as he runs across its back to its head.

He plunges his sword vertically into the dragon's head, who roars and falls to the ground.

They did it! It really was about time. But why do I need to get hit first before they get down to business? Well, who cares...

Sislis's barrier falls down, and I see the others coming nearer.

"Why did it take you all so long...!" I say and close my eyes from exhaustion.

Everything is dark, but I have none of my typical flashback dreams. Everything is just silent.

Then I hear voices mumbling. Of course, I can't have a silent rest...

"A witch has no heart!"

"Since you don't need it, I will take it."

"Without a heart, you're no longer a human but reborn as a witch."

"To make the contract complete, I will take the souls of the villagers too! That's no problem for you. Right?"

"What...?" I shout, irritated.

"I knew you were fine with that!" the voice says and disappears.

Does he mean the villagers who burned Uriel? And do I really have no heart?

Then the dark turns bright, and I open my eyes. The rays of the sun are gently tickling my skin, and the bright light blinds my eyes. I close my eyes, turn my head to the right, and open them again.

"Where am I? Are we in our camp again? Where is the orb?," I ask confused as I see the forest.

"You are awake!" Sisli shouts and happily jumps to me.

"Yes, we are back in our camp! We grabbed the orb after you had passed out! No need to worry." Knox says with a smile.

"And some other things!" Caspian says, who is covered in jewels and gold jewelry.

Of course Caspian took some of the dragon's treasures with him. Let's see if he doesn't lose his newfound wealth gambling.

"I said, you shouldn't take the treasures, as the dragon stole them from other kingdoms." Lionel says while he comes to us.

"And I said, that's a noble opinion." Caspian says, who nonetheless obviously acted on his own.

"How are your wounds?" Lionel asks.

Good question. I am exhausted, but I feel no real pain anymore. I look down at my body to check my own condition. My wounds have also healed so far. My clothes are torn and covered in blood, but otherwise everything is fine.

"I am fine now. My wounds are also healed!" I say after checking my condition.

"That's good to hear!" Lionel says relieved.

When I look closely at the others, they also look a bit worn out.

"How are the wounds of you all? I am ready to heal again!" I say.

"You'd better rest yourself first," Lionel says seriously.

"I am really fine."

I grab my bag and take out an ointment. This is infused with a healing potion and heals wounds well once applied. This won't help with a broken arm. But it's sufficient for superficial injuries and bruises.

"Apply this ointment on your wounds. If you have a broken bone or worse, I have to heal the wounds myself. If not, this ointment is enough," I say, while I give it to Lionel.

"Please check my arm, I think I am about to die!" Caspian says.

He is probably a bit melodramatic, so I lift his sleeve and check his swollen arm. Oh right... his arm got severely hurt during the fight.

"Oh god, I can't look," he says nervously and looks at his arm.

"Oh no, I looked," he says in panic as he sees his slightly disfigured arm.

How can someone like him be a hunter? While I touch his arm, I use my healing powers to heal him. The swelling goes down and the wounds close instantly.

"Thank you, you are a lifesaver," Caspian says, visibly relieved.

I am still tired... But I have a job to do! So while I'm at it, I also check the wounds of the others. Sisli actually has almost no wounds. Knox, on the other hand, is covered in grazes and bruises, which I heal.

Lionel refuses at first, but then he gives in and let me see and heal his more serious wounds too.

"We can only use the orb during a full moon because it needs moonlight to recharge. Since the full moon isn't for another three days, we should head to the nearest city and restock our supplies, repair weapons, and so on." Lionel says.

"Then let's go!" Knox says, who already packs everything in the covered wagon.

After everything is packed, we also climb into the wagon. This time Knox and Sisli are the drivers, while Lionel, Caspian, and myself are sitting in the back.

We are heading to the nearest city... which city did they visit in the book again?
