The Cats of Water, Wind, and Fire

The first thing the kit knew of life were warm bodies pressing against him. The next thing it knew was of a deliciously sweet scent filling the air. The kit followed it until he found warm, creamy milk. He greedily started sucking it up.

As the kit's belly filled up, it became aware of four cats nearby. Two were the warm bodies it had first felt, who, it concluded, must be its littermates.
One of the cats was his mother, whose delicious milk was creating the sweet scent.
The other cat's identity was a mystery, but for some reason, the kit immediately trusted them. Then they spoke, their voice rich, and melodical. "Foxwind, dearest, I hate to ruin this moment, but I must leave. I cannot remain here any longer."
The kit's mother, Foxwind, replied, "Stormbreaker, please. The kits need their fath-. No. You have that look on your face. I can see that there will be no convincing you. But if you have to leave, please at least name one of the kits. Maybe the silver one. It looks a lot like you."
The other cat, Stormbreaker, sighed. "Okay. How about Star. That's a good name, especially seeing that she sort of looks like a small, furry star."

"Stormbreaker-" Foxwind paused. "The black one's name is Night, and the gray one is Breeze. Remember them. Remember me. Come back soon. Please." Her voice sounded desperate, and she looked like she was about to chase after him. "We'll see maybe I'll visit sometime." And then Stormbreaker walked out the door.

The kit, Breeze, looked at where he had been only a moment ago and then looked up at Foxwind. Why did you let our father go? You loved him. You should have made him stay.
Foxwind looked down at Breeze. "It'll be alright little one. You'll survive. You won't even remember him once you grow up." But I will. I will. And one day, when I'm older, I find him and bring him back and we can all be happy again. Just you wait and see.
