Chapter 6:
STASIS
Ciel had noticed the Ted presence on top of the building. His stare was unmistakable; he would never forget how he stared at him and his mother after he left them for dead. He had told Trixie to drop him and went straight for Ted as soon as she did.
"So let's get this over with," Ted sighed, standing up. "I have had a lot of surprise visits from so many people, some saying I killed their wife, others saying I killed their brother, and some saying you are under arrest for multiple counts of murder."
"And what happened to them?"
"If they wanted to see their loved ones so badly, I thought, why not reunite them?"
"Hell is really the only suitable place for you."
"Yeah, I get that a lot," Ted said. “But I fear for you, because you will be the first to go.” Ted raised his arm halfway.
BOOM
Why Ciel, who had been there a second ago, exploded the instant Ted made that gesture. Ciel moved in for a kick, but Ted blocked it with his left arm while simultaneously pushing Ciel back.
“You aren’t going to use your power?”
“Be careful what you wish for.” Ciel’s dark red eyes glowed as his hand was engulfed in flames, which didn’t harm him or his clothes. “I plan on burning you to ash.”
Ciel moved in for another attack with incredible speed. Ted tried to stop his approach by exploding the ground beneath the Ciel walkway; Ciel narrowly avoided falling in as he attempted to punch the Nisekami. Ted threw some balls the size of marbles in Ciel’s direction, which exploded the moment they surrounded Ciel.
It looks like this won't be so easy after all. Ciel took a quick step back just before the balls' impact could fully reach him. He now has minor burns and some bruises, but the Nisekami was still unscathed. “You are the calculating type, aren’t you?” Ciel looked at Ted. “I really hate those types.”
“Charging in without a plan isn’t bravery, you know; it’s plain stupidity.”
“I’m not going to take that from a guy who takes the lives of defenceless people,” Ciel said before charging straight in again. It’s obvious he has no plan of moving, and I have to keep moving, or his explosions will get to me. He is trying to tire me out.
“You are acting reckless again.” Ted threw his little marble when Ciel got close; they exploded instantly again, but Ciel didn’t move back this time.
“At least he was—” Before Ted could finish, Ciel moved out of the smoke caused by the exploding marbles and punched Ted in the face. The impact sent Ted flying back.
“Points for surviving that.” Ted stood up, blood dripping from his nose and mouth and his face bruised. But the moment he looked up, Ciel was already next to him. Ted couldn’t react as Ciel kicked his rib cage. This time Ted didn’t fly but stood firmly as he grabbed Ciel’s face and slammed him into the ground. “You thought explosions were my only assets? “I am going to crush your face with my bare hands,” Ted said in a pained voice.
The Nisekami pushed Ciel's face farther into the ground before Ciel grabbed his arm and unleashed his flames on it, forcing the Nisekami to let go. The moment he did, Ciel kicked his head and stomach, sending him flying again.
The Nisekami got up, breathing heavily. “I have only felt true fear in a fight one other time apart from now,” the Nisekami said, clutching his ribs while blood covered his face. “You are strong, even stronger than me, but strength isn’t the only thing at play in a fight.”
“Now who’s the one talking too much?” Ciel charged at the Nisekami again.
Ted raised his hand like he had done at the beginning.
Ciel moved to evade.
Ted lowers his hand.
no explosions
The place where Ciel suddenly moved to crumbled. He was so focused on Ted that he didn’t watch his footing as he managed to narrowly avoid falling.
I wasn't focused; Ciel turned to face the Nisekami who had raised his hand again. Ciel tried to evade, but his leg had been injured as it scraped on the concrete, so he couldn’t in time.
“You should be more cautious,” Nisekami said before releasing his explosion.
BOOM
The largest explosion the Nisekami had released yet. Ciel flew back, hitting and destroying one of the pillars on the roof, which slowed his momentum as he came to a stop at the edge of the roof.
"The fight is over," Ted said as he slowly walked closer to Ciel.
Ciel lay on the floor facing the ledge. Even if he tried to get up, he wouldn't be able to fight. He felt several bruises from the explosion. I really messed up. He looked towards the horizon. The view is horrible from here. He thought before he lost consciousness.
