Chapter 9:
My will shall resonate in this stormy game
It wasn't until the short afternoon nap gave me strength that I remembered the problem I had and to
Luckily, I was called to exercise, something I was only half grateful for, since running wasn't exactly my favorite sport, but the fact that food arrived afterwards was the most appropriate way to give me excuses to have energy, although I was still sleepy, it was more manageable than before.
After a quick chat with the maids and the few servants about where most of them were acquired and more precise directions I walked towards the entrance, to my surprise the new wife of the head of the family arrived, I stepped aside and gave a simple bow, while greeting her.
“Greetings to the lady of the house.”
“Hey, little Abaddon, come and I already told you, call me Mama.” She seemed upset as she asked for company.
“As you command.” I made my way to his side, as he always requested.
“How was your day, I heard you've been sleeping more than necessary lately.” Again the fan was put on.
eclipsing half of the face.
“I agree, but I’ve been feeling tired, in fact, I’m still sleepy.” I noticed him scanning the surroundings before.
to talk again, especially since it was the crossroads of the deal.
"Regarding our daily dealings." He closed his fan, displaying the closest thing he had to good humor.
“I’m afraid I haven’t been able to get the usual cakes.”
“Did something happen to the baker?”
“As I explained to you in the past, I got the sandwich from the Morado y Negro merchant.” “Right, that detail.”
The coin passes almost without problems, with a small slip, it almost falls before reaching your hand.
“I wish you a good day, young Abaddon, and if you have the opportunity to buy them again, let me know so I can give you the money.”
“Don’t doubt that fact.” I was referring to the money.
Fortunately for me the conversation was brief and I didn't reveal much more than necessary, and I continued to the exit again, the carriage arrived in time to be ready and I passed by the driver, as usual.
“Young man, what destiny do you have in mind today?”
“The purchase of slaves, I intend to participate in this business starting today for personal reasons.” For before I knew it, we were already at the entrance. In fact, the habit was starting to worry me. “And to some extent, it’s a secret from my family, if you’ll excuse me.”
“As you wish, I will not speak.”
"Thank you".
I had to find a way to be taken for a fool and I didn't see a better opportunity, but I had an idea in mind before continuing with my act of being a newly-appointed adult, and for some reason the cloudy sky was gaining strength as we entered the territories of the commoners and the wind reminded me that I should have brought some kind of coat or changed my sweaty t-shirt.
With the gallop of the horses increasing I noticed how from the ornate and well-kept streets of the nobility, we reached the lowest and poorest neighborhoods, to the extent that my conscience told me that I could remedy some of it, my position screamed at me that it was a bad idea to interfere with the status quo, especially if it put me in the sights of gangs or small criminal dealings that take the role of guards and with a nice white robe.
“Another day maybe?” I muttered to myself and made a promise to change poverty as soon as possible.
“Do you regret it now, young man?” I ask, somewhat worried about not having brought an escort.
"If I'm honest, yes, but we've already come this far, I mustn't hesitate or I won't be worthy of my last name." He wasn't stupid.
so as not to see the danger that was beginning to surround us, but I also couldn't let the driver get the better of me and I gave a considerable reason for anyone who knows the family.
“We can come back tomorrow with a bit more escort if you prefer, it's always good to have security first.” “medium, don’t you think?”
If my plans went through, I wouldn't be back until next month, but more importantly, the screen that will take the control of this route will not arise either.
“I think so, but I'm afraid we're almost there, it's right there.”
The arrival of the guards with the same collars as most of the people there, told me that things could be better, but at the same time I remembered why I was fighting and the fat little man who came to greet us acted very friendly, and one of the few who had honor among the many slave traders.
“Illustrious gentlemen, what brings you to our humble shop?”
He seemed to have gained the merchant's favor, but for my part, the truth didn't matter to me, but I jumped down and I placed my family emblem in front of him, clearly visible, and spoke with the humility I always had when dealing with someone.
“Alba greets you as you approach her dismissal.”
“Likewise, son of the House of Sol, please follow me and excuse my manners.”
“It’s fine, I’m used to it, but I’d like to ask someone to protect my transport if you don’t mind.”
“You two, make sure that our illustrious guest’s transportation is not hindered by anything in the world.”
They both nodded, as the collars on their necks and the shackle on the merchant's hand shone, with that
Of course we moved inside and I was grateful that the driver had the common sense to stay there and even more so when I arrived at his office, somewhat modest, but it didn't surprise me.
“Well, young man, I have several lists prepared, but if you have a preference, I’ll listen.” The half-cold boiler poured the first cup.
“I came to buy something, that's true, but I also have an omen for you.” The shock didn't surprise me, but it did it was my glass that overflowed.
“I apologize young master, please take a seat, I will prepare the list that you see preferable for your purchase and I will give you
a discount.”
“It’s not necessary, and more importantly, it could be the last money I have until next month.”
He swallowed, passing the cup a little shakily. “Could you be a little more precise with your words?” He took out a cake and placed it on the side, clearly trying to win my favor.
“In the middle of Alba’s journey while I was sleeping, I saw a storm, white robes and more importantly, bloody ones.” I took a small sip, noting the good harvest but the lack of sugar, and proceeded to pour it, only to notice how he hurriedly brought it closer. "Then, shouts, lots of shouts, clamoring for something that puzzled me at first but then gained strength."
I ate a piece of the cake and knew it was the lady of the house's favorite and took another sip.
“What were you shouting, young man?” He seemed worried beyond belief.
Possibly witnessing his execution and although that would soon happen, saving his life was my priority when I turned around.
a very valuable contact and once again I found myself grateful for the ignorance of the time and the acute superstition of almost everyone.
“What they did to us is a sin.” I looked at the cup at what I felt was the right moment.
He went to sit down heavily, while finding his pallets irrelevant again and throwing them on the floor, while he took out a bottle of liquor, bigger than my arm, which surprised me because of how he managed to do it
The entire contents were poured into the cup even with the shaking of the hand and the subsequent gulp was more than deserved by the drinking champions I saw on the way here.
“DAMN CURSED KINGDOM!” He poured the second and third before deciding to throw it away, near my chair and continue drinking from the same bottle until it is half empty.
I waited for him to remember who he was dealing with, while I gathered the papers and examined the records.
skin and hair tone, finding my goal, but more importantly completing my plan.
“Excuse me for asking, this person because he has a red stamp and the rest.” As I regain my composure with force and speed I assumed that he had returned to his role as a businessman.
“I… apologize, young Abadon, I don’t mean…” He looked at his workspace and lamented silently. “Forget it, Please, just…” He grabbed his face, possibly answering his fears. “I ask, why do you have that jealousy, right?”
“I’m pretty sure we came to the same conclusion, right?” I smiled, aware that I had the same cheerful look as my new partner in crime. “Since we’re on the same page now, we can get down to business properly.”
He adjusted his clothes as he should and proceeded to take out of his drawer the lists with the majority of people between birth and newly appointed adults, leaving the elders aside.
The thunder that crashed was loud enough to startle him and with the haste of someone who lost his mind notion of time managed to reach what he intended to present and then put the rest of the papers in order.
“From this list, choose everything you like to wear, young man, then I will come back to claim those that do not seem right to you.”
“suitable,” I don’t know if it was the conspiracy we were carrying out or the lack of respect for the Holy Faith, but I took the list and quickly skimmed it, noticing many in very good condition.
“Everyone on this last list.”
“As you wish, it will be 40 Gold.”
“I know, but unfortunately I don't have enough money and I didn't take my father's permission to take the slaves, as it should be.”
Before he knew it he had sealed the sheet and more importantly we continued our little game.
"It's a shame I've already kept quiet about the deal. Know that tomorrow I'll come and collect what you can't pay me." “I know, I will tell Father, I assure you that we will pay as much as possible, and if not, we will send them back without remedy, I assure you.”
“I will prepare all the slaves you asked for, please come with me, I will let you see them and if you find any that If you like it, I can add it as an extra at no cost.”
“Very grateful.” We walked towards the few fenced areas that were there and more importantly we arrived at the area that I wanted to find it, the stench of excrement prevented me from thinking clearly until we reached the gate.
“Cell 17 as ordered.” It opened almost without a problem and I could see a woman clearly in her bones, while tidying up her robes, she held what she took to be a bone knife and grabbed her roommate's hand. "The girl was the daughter of an illustrious warrior, if I'm not mistaken. Six days ago, she arrived here after catching those green splashes that we haven't been able to easily remove from everyone who's come here."
“Just what I needed, how nice we were able to walk through this well-kept hallway.” "TRUE".
“Please allow me a little time to get to know my new slave, if you don’t mind.”
"Clear".
After a while I approached much calmer, while he left us alone and to my disgust he closed the door.
door, causing the stench to be unbearable.
“Do you know what this emblem is?”
He nodded so I assumed he understood and from the way his other hand was shaking halfway around it I knew clearly who they were and confirmed that my memories were more or less adequate for my purposes.
“I'll be direct, I know you're not stupid and more importantly, I know that the one behind you is worth even more than everything “What can you ask for in this life?” It was no surprise when the necklace lit up, the electricity stopping her inches from stabbing me in the neck. “Please be calm while I speak.” I bowed slightly, and she fell to the floor, overcome with pain and possibly badly injured if the sagging flesh was anything like her character text in the augury card story described.
“Tell me, are the cells open?”
He nodded, but with difficulty, which led me to think that the merchant had much more confidence in his orders that in the safety of strangers yearning for their belongings and more importantly given the state of the place it was certain that it would not be a good idea to stay long.
“I’ll be direct; I have a proposal that might interest you.” I helped her lean back against the bars again and girl at her side helped her calm down and back down.
“I have moved heaven, sea and earth so that today in my appointment, all slaves can flee, but you are
Particularly valuable, I have seen your future, how much harm you will bring to Lasha,” I ran my finger under her chin, feeling like a villain in a movie. “How many prisoners will follow you in your small rebellion and die in their first attempt to escape and how you will talk to her head every day.” I pull my hand away with more fury than strength. “That is why I bring you this deal, she will be safe by my side, I will make sure she has two meals a day, a warmer bed than this sad waste of a stone burrow and you will have no limitations on being able to flee to the cursed kingdom that Rhythm has taken over today.”
“No,” he said barely.
“You have fled from the wonders of the cursed Kingdom, am I wrong?”
“Yes, we’ll go together, she won’t stay with you.”
“You served with your father the chief of the howling bones, you know of war, where to find calm places and
More importantly, you could direct the prisoners, but tell me.” I turned around, eclipsing the little light that came from the closed door. “What would you sacrifice so that she could live one more day than you?” "All".
“And she is willing to make the same sacrifice, in the heat of battle her concern will lead her to put herself between you and the enemy, you will live only to curse the White Guard and you will stay to die in vain." I extended my hands as if I were a proclaimed saint and prophet of salvation, and the moment overcame my shame. "What I offer you is the final salvation." I extended my hand as I approached. "From both of you, from everyone who surrounds you in this insignificant moment.
Overcome by embarrassment, I approached and was thankful that the place was dark or the blush that I had would be noticeable.
I had and in part the slight tearing of the waste so close and I extended my left hand, hoping that he would interpret it as honesty and point it at the midpoint of the bars, leaving everyone in doubt as to who I was addressing, while I squatted down a little lower than his sitting height.
“A time apart, you will grow strong, you will have trustworthy companions, soon an army and in a final assault on Lasha, they will gather, she ready to follow you, and you can depart as a figure of freedom, praised by slaves and commoners alike.” He took my hand as I expected, but the bewilderment of the one I was trying to convince by hesitating was unexpected. “Thank you for accepting your freedom, my sweet lady.” He slightly shook his hand; the green traces didn’t really please me, but I had to play along if I wanted his loyalty. “If your jailer asks, tell him to speak of the vision, and first clarify (Where what they did to us is a sin).” To my bewilderment, everyone began to repeat it as if it were a macabre chorus of dying people, and I left there more scared than I intended, hoping he would mistake it for impatience.
After arriving at the merchant's room, I continued my order and after a while of preparing the shackle I left with all the prisoners on foot, except for the girl who was weak and I ordered her to be taken to the temple and treated before bringing her to the family, I gave him the money for the payment and the merchant gave me the rest of the cake he had left, while we put an end to our mutual troubles and my last suggestion of hiding some of the war slaves under the plague-ridden area was something he saw with even better eye.
