Chapter 11:

Light Lost

Shadow’s Cast

The Sun is so bright it reflects of leaves, and leaves spots in my eyes. The glare is an annoying constant this day. I flick an ear in an annoyance. Then they twitch. The fur along my spine rises. Someone is behind me. I know it the way I know there are leaves beneath my paws. I pick up the pace. Though the long trip has left me with a bit of a limp I push forward. I slow down just enough to look behind me. It’s definitely a cat. I claws unsheathed, and eyes as wide as an owls. Something is very wrong with it. I pick up speed. Ducking under branches, and leaping over roots, but I am not used to this territory. When I trip on the uneven ground I fly forward into a large trunk. My head hits with the a thud. The colors around me swirl for a moment as I try to catch my bearings, and stay alert for an attack. Yellow, green, and gold. With brown fur mixed in somewhere. I shake my head to try and clear it, and it’s then I smell it in the air. The wind changes, and I smell the hit of ShadowClan. A ShadowClan cat is going to kill me. I will surely join Claw and Fang in The Dark Forest. If only I was not left alone. I here a yowl of attack, and tense my self for battle. Eyes still blurry, head still bleeding. Then the gold changes to red. Like an incoming dawn. But the Sun is still high in the sky? Then I smell it. Metallic and familiar. Cat blood. My ears flatten. As my adrenaline fades, my eyes clear. Lightdapple’s is mangled, her neck twisted unnaturally. Her eyes even in death still sharp and focused. Long bloody gashes on her sides. The blood clung to black and white paws.

“Claw?” I question as the two cats began to fade back into the dark forest.

“Glad we caught you.” Fang says. Claw points in a direction with his tail before disappearing. I fallow it, still dizzy. I stumble through the forest now. Not properly able to connect the dots of why Lightdapple would be so determined to kill me. Or how Claw and Fang had gotten there in time. Too much has happened in a short period of time. If I wasn’t so sure it was real I would’ve thought I’d gone mad. I only manage to get a few feet away when I have to stop, and rest on a mossy log. I smell another cat coming, and bristle. I see back and white fur though the leaves, but can’t place the sent.

“Hello? Are you alright?” A long furred she-cat pokes her head though the thin branches. She’s mostly white with a black mask on her face, and black back, and tail. Her fur is long (most cats in my clan had short fur) and well groomed. She’s pretty with blue eyes, and a lilac collar. I’d never seen a cat with blue eyes before. I shake myself from my thoughts.

“Find. Thank you.” I say shortly. I can’t be in her territory. I would’ve noticed if I had crossed a sent boarder. She pads up to me. Making me stiffen.

“I’m Oreo. She/her. I live with house-folk. She can help you.” House-folk? She meant two-legs. I wasn’t going to become anyone’s pet.

“I’m not going anywhere near a two-leg nest.” I say. She blinks, then says a little annoyed,

“So what’s you plan then.” There’s something wrong with my head. The rays of light still too bright, though the bleeding stopped, and cut up seemed small. My back leg still throbbed though. I was out of options, and my knowledge of herbs limited. She starts to lead me away. I fallow after.

“Nightwhisper. She/her. I’m a warrior.”
