Chapter 20:
Morgenstern - Morning Star - Ake No Myōjō - 明けの明星
The broken body of Geber Tria Prima before me made the reality of the situation finally sink in.
“I told you it was bad,” Isabella said. “We managed to fulfill the contract, but now it all comes down to continuing business or healing Dad.”
“Deperate times call for desperate measures,” I said with a sigh.
“You know I can’t let him continue to suffer like this,” Isabella said. “I brought him some pain killing potions but that just postpones the problem for a while.”
“Well,” I said. “You followed my plan. Guess it is on me to see things through to the end.”
I slowly lifted Geber’s unconscious body out of the bed. He was a short man, and I was tall for my age, but me carrying a patient would probably raise a few eyebrows.
“What are you doing?” Isabella asked in disbelief and protest.
“Getting him out of here,” I said bluntly.
“What?” Isabella asked. “What should I tell the nurses?”
“The truth,” I said. “You’re broke, meaning we can’t continue to pay, so we’re taking him with us.”
“But…” Isabella said.
“Please,” I said. “Trust me on this one, okay?”
“I… Fine.” Isabella said.
I had used ‘Know Your Enemy’ on our way into the hospital, and compared to the two Clerics that had passed us, my current Class Levels, Skills and Stats were out of this world.
This could work.
This should work.
This had to work.

We arrived back at the Tria Prima workshop about an hour later, after transporting Geber in a carriage.
I could have probably carried him all the way on my own, but why raise any further suspicions on top of what was to come?
I carefully placed her father on his bed.
“So… what now?” Isabella asked.
“Could you please wait downstairs with Tia?” I asked in return.
“Why can’t I stay here?” Isabella asked.
“Please, just trust me one more time,” I said.
“Sure,” Isabella said with a hint of doubt tainting her voice.
“And whatever happens today stays our secret,” I said.
She justin nodded, left the room, and descended down the stairs.
Time to see what ‘Divine Healing’ was capable of.

Up till now, I had only used it to take care of smaller wounds that could have been cured using Potions.
The fact that three years of adventuring hadn’t resulted in any mentionable casualties on the end of our parties was a testament to the gap between us and our usual prey.
Looking back, that Level 47 Greater Bone Fiend was one of the last encounters that really put up a fight, and even that one had gone down in an instant. Maybe it was time to finally claim that silver or maybe even gold rank as Tiffany and Klein.
The Skill itself was kind of a strange deal.
Geber’s body was slowly bathed in a blue-white light that seemed to engulf him from head to toe.
It seemed like parts of his body went translucent.
I could see fragmented and broken bones shine right through his body, like some kind of X-ray vision.
I tried to touch one fracture in his left arm.
The injured part began to glow brighter.
Slowly, millimeter by millimeter, the fragments moved back to their intended position and fused back together.
I repeated this process with his ribs and legs, slowly repairing all the damage done.
The whole process must have taken no more than a minute, but with the required concentration, it felt like way more.
Just as I was done with the procedure, Geber slowly opened his eyes.
“Now that is a familiar ceiling,” he mumbled, still half asleep. “What happened? Am I home? It… it doesn’t hurt anymore.”
“You’re in your house,” I said. “Can you try to stand up?”
He slowly got on his feet.
—
About two years had passed since the miraculous cure of Geber Tria Prima.
Going by Isabella’s reaction back then, she and her father suspected that I had developed some kind of panacea. They probably thought it required some exceptionally rare ingredients, but respected my earlier demand not to inquire any further.
The subbranch of ‘The Great Works Company’ had long since closed shop, and even their main branch was in a rather dire situation, not least because of the regular ‘Wyvern attacks’, near the bay, to some of their regular off planet suppliers.
Suffice to say, Tia did not plan to stop any time soon.
Our arrangement continued like before. I usually spent two or three days in the workshop and used the remaining days to adventure under my pseudonym, or steal the occasional rainbow slime’s royal jelly as my good old self.
Tia and I still lived back home, by now more or less debt free. I would have usually moved out a year ago, but according to Alfred, and to the great displeasure of my ‘mother’, I more or less owned the place by now.
Dawn was in her last regular year in the Magic Academy. Her grades had stayed in the top three, and she was on the best way to acquire a stipend on her own. I had occasionally assisted her with ‘For the Good of The Many’, but most of it was her own hard work.
Even our mother seemed to have finally parted with the idea of marrying Dawn off to some good for nothing noble. I suspect Tia’s threats, or rather warnings, to burn down the house and slowly roast my ‘mother’ to death might have had an impact on Aurora’s gradual change of mind.
All members of our alter egos regular party, meaning Kentaro Ryusei, Tiffany (Tia), and Klein (me), had long since advanced to Silver rank.
His niece, Reiko Ryusei, and her party were close to reaching Steel rank, partially due to joining us on various missions.
But they had bitten off more than they could chew on their most recent quest.
Instead of waiting for the three of us to arrive, they left on their own to subdue Wyverns in the mountains near the bay.
Tia and I both knew that those wannabe dragons were not the ones to blame for the attacks on ships, but what should we have done?
Unfortunately, it was way past mating season. Meaning the matriarchs were especially vicious this time of year, protecting their nests.
When we arrived at the scene, it was almost too late.
