Chapter 14:

12.Extra - Alchemy Lesson

Heart Dream - How I Got To Chase My Dreams and Myself In Another World!

One day, Richard approached Caoilainn and asked:
- "So, Caoilainn, how does alchemy work?"
- "I'm glad you asked!" - at this moment, using alchemy, she turned the room into a classroom featuring a blackboard, a table for her and a chair and a table for Richard - "Sit down! And I'll show you!"

Richard sat down and Caoilainn started explaining, at the same time she wrote keywords and drawings on the blackboard. Also, she was suddenly wearing a formal attire and glasses.

- "So, Richard" - Caoilainn started - "alchemy is a kind of magic, specifically, the process of transmuting things into other things. Here we use the word 'thing' to be very broad, as this may include substances, objects and even spiritual stuff." - she adjusted her glasses. - "Alchemic transmutation is the key process here. Do you know what it takes for a full process?"
- "No" - he replied.
- "So, we need four elements. First, the ingredients. We need to gather the ingredients with which we wish to create another thing, following the law of equivalent exchange. Whatever we want, we must give up something of equal value. It works like a cooking a dish." - she looked at him - "so far so good?"
- "Yes!"
- "The second thing we need, is the mind. We need to be able to imagine the end result we want. Third, we need the 'incantation'. This can be an alchemic circle, magic runes or even magical words." - Richard asked:
- "But what is the difference between the two?"
- "Simple. The second element depends on your imagination, so it always varies from alchemist to alchemist. You may even spot things transmuted by a specific alchemist due to his style." - she paused - "the third element is about knowledge. So, you need to discover or learn the correct 'incantation' to be able to transmute." - she paused - "So, one part is about imagination and the other about knowledge. Got it?"
- "Yes, know it is clear, thank you" - Caoilainn continued:
- "Finally, the fourth element is mana, the magical energy. It is drawn from yourself, the objects, and the environment. It is usually not a issue in terms of something you need to know, but it limits the power of transmutation. That makes it basically impossible to transmute an entire castle at once. It simply would take too much energy."
- "I see, Caoilainn. And, what if I wish to be an alchemist, what should I do?"
- "First, know the basic concept, as you now know. Then, you need to study the four basic processes of alchemy: nigredo, albedo, citrinitas and rubedo. You can learn each separately, with simple transmutations. You probably will use as base the Tria Prima: sulfur, mercury and salt, as they are not only our basic materials, but also related to our selves, being tied to soul, spirit and body respectively."
- "Hmmm, that's great!" - Richard replied - "it seems that I have learned a lot today. But what more can I do to really really learn?"
- "That's easy, take more classes with the Master Alchemist Caoilainn! Tehehe~" - before she could continue, Isabella entered the room. She was baffled for a moment with the classroom environment. Then she said:
- "Guys, let's get to work! Classes may be good, but there is a lot of adventure ahead of us!"
- "Just a few more words, Isa..." - Caoilainn pouted.
- "I am sorry, Caoilainn" - Isabella had a stern look - "our readers want to know what's in the bowers!"
- "Well, can't disappoint our readers" - Caoilainn spread her arms - "come on, let's go!"
