Chapter 13:

A new adventure

Revenge in another world

With Rei in the team, I decided we would have advanced training. So at dawn we headed to the Guild to register Rei in the team.
After that, we set out toward the forest, since Aria had told me that in the middle there was a place used as a training field. When we arrived, we began.
At first it was a bit complicated, since Lysbeth and Nara argued over ideas of combining magic, Rei got confused because she had never fought in a team, and Aria gave very strict instructions. So I had to calm everyone down, wondering how we had defeated yesterday’s monster, touching my chest where the mark was.
Aria noticed and asked me what was wrong. Denying any discomfort, I told her I was just confused. Worried, Aria decided not to ask anymore and continued with the warm-up.
Seeing Piko there, I asked him to go back to the village and, in case of any emergency, come as quickly as possible to warn us.
I told him that because I knew that if he stayed, he could get hurt, but it was the smartest choice.
With nothing else to worry about, we began training. Aria against Lysbeth, Nara and Rei against me. At first it was complicated for Aria, but she managed to keep up with Lysbeth. For me, it was a bit easier; I could dodge both of their attacks without much trouble, although their defense was incredible.
By midday, we decided to rest and have lunch.
“Ahhh… you’re way too fast, Kaoru,” Rei exclaimed.“She’s right… you’re really fast. I like that,” said Nara, somewhat excited, so to speak.
“Wow, you’re amazing, Lysbeth… I’ll have to train really hard if I want to catch up with you,” Aria exclaimed.
“Don’t say that. You’re amazing too; you managed to fight at my level in such a short time,” said Lysbeth.
After a moment of laughter, I felt a huge surge of mana. Suddenly Piko arrived, out of breath.
“Hey buddy, what’s wrong?” I asked him. He waved his arms, trying to explain that a massive number of monsters were heading toward the village.
In a hurry, we rushed to the village. When we arrived, we found the guild master and all the adventurers outside, ready to fight.
And then, the monsters appeared. There were so many that it was impossible to count them. Preparing an explosive magic sphere, we started the battle.
Immediately, I launched the magic sphere, destroying several monsters, but there were so many that it hardly made a difference. The battle was terrifying: mages trying to kill as many as possible, swordsmen attacking and protecting the village entrance.
Then I wanted to activate my power, but Aria noticed.
“Don’t do it!” Aria shouted.“If you do it… you’ll faint again!”“But we don’t have a choice.”“But!... I don’t want anything to happen to you,” Aria murmured, very worried.
So I decided not to use it and kept evaluating the situation, even though I knew our chances of winning were slim. Out of nowhere, a trumpet sounded.
“It’s the royal knights!” everyone shouted.
Seeing their strength, I realized our chances of winning were more than enough.
When the battle ended, we gathered to rest. Seven people had lost their lives, but not in vain. Then the guild master approached us to thank us for our help.
Suddenly, the King arrived, who had also fought in the battle. Everyone kneeled before him, even the guild master and me.
“Stand up,” the king said.“There’s no need to kneel. It’s partly my fault. Those monsters were attacking the city, and in an attempt to escape, they headed toward your village. I’m sorry!” the king explained, bowing his head.
“Don’t bow, King Edward! We’re not worthy!”“What are you talking about, Robert? We’ve known each other since the Academy.”
We were all surprised to find out the guild master and the king knew each other.
“Oh! You must be the famous group ‘Death Flash,’ right?” the king asked.“Death Flash?” I asked.“That’s how you’re known throughout the kingdom,” the guild master explained.“That sounds like we’re assassins!” Aria exclaimed.
“Anyway… since you’re here, would you like to accompany me to the city?” the king asked.
Confused but at the same time excited, I told him yes. Because if we went, we could learn more about that dark being.
“And so, my revenge was drawing ever closer.”
