Chapter 6:

NAKI SAKEBU/TO SCREAM

Sakura of the wind,Blade of withering shadow

I watch him suddenly rush towards me,The  Warrior pushes me down ,immediately making his way into the group of them,my eyes seem to take forever to open but through sheer force of will the open again to find a sight that is somehow terrifying but to many my words will end up sounding evil or strange.
It is beautiful,he dances around each shinsengumi effortlessly, his fighting style is fast and strong, completely unorthodox of this era,for every strike low that the warriors attempt it ends in a severed appendage ,for every strike up it leads to the Warrior slicing jawlines away.
But for every second I admire the brutal beauty of this deadly dance I am afflicted by the hissing screams of the bloodied blade the Warrior wields,it screams in rage at him and I don't blame them for that yet I do not for even a moment believe he enjoys this,in fact.
I just know he hates it,somehow.
More and more arrive and the Warrior fights and evades them like a pure shadow made of blades but the hissing is too much and my shoulder won't stop hurting because of the arrow.
"Stop,oh please stop.....stop stop STOP!"
My eyes close and it feels like the world stops turning.

When I open my eyes again I only see the horse neighing softly, nuzzling my hair and the Warrior sitting by a tree watching the world around us but more often than I would have thought he watches me too.
"Can a world truly bare another cursed one?Another one that does not seem to be capable of being forgiven....You somehow stopped a dozen shinsengumi, when before you could not look at there blades. You somehow created a mist of there blood turning it into shards and bade the wind fly them home again."
There is oddly no judgement in his eyes, merely awe and confusion, perhaps even a from of understanding because he see's somehow what I am thinking.
I did not want to do that,I was not even thinking such a thing.Yet,my eyes are too heavy to look on at his longer and my arm hurts to much to think more, only when he rises and pats his mount I decide to listen to noise to settle me.
The noise of soft pattering rain, the gentle steps of the horse that he just lifted me on to,but the feeling of his hand as it gently brushed my hair from my face stills even the pain in my head.a touch feather soft with hands that are and calloused,That momentary distraction itself I wish would linger despite my sense's telling me it is odd.
Instead I try to listen again to the rain, watch the footfalls of his boots and the clopping if the horses hooves, the hum I begin to hear softly catches my attention and I start to feel woozy, probably from the loveliness of blood loss.
I smile"Heavenly dew/mothers tears are love for you"
I hum dumbly hum along, even after he stops and recall how after mother left father I had to stay with grandmother while he looked for better work, she would sing this to me to settle my pain over it all as well as tell me stories, notably the one about a seamstress who swore herself for all time to a vicious warlords son,a vicious warrior himself whom she utterly believed in.
The thought makes me so happy feeling or maybe it is the blood loss working,I see it evident on the poor mounts coat,I try to wipe it away and then I smell something strange.
"Do you smell that to or am I becoming madder?"
The Warrior stills, smells around and begins to fast walk that the path there, and then do I hear the screams"Why more screaming?"I moan, the wind and the blades sound louder and louder as we near the source,I grip my head even to my shoulders detriment.
"Noroi! We must flee, shinsengumi have filled the whole estate and there are madmen there led by my father trying to kill them and the loyalists!Hurry we must go......"Kiko cries out rushing headlong into the Warriors,Noroi's chest, she grips his arm hard with tears pouring like a river down her face excepting a brief moment her eye catch sight of me on this mount, like I have taken something from her somehow.
The Warrior,Noroi, kneels down and lifts her onto the horse behind me,he whispers softly to the horse and off we are going fast, all the while both our eyes are on the Warrior as he boldly steps into the burning estate where even as we have made a large amount of distance away I hear the hissing blood and the confused wind.
Even more so the small moments of dialogue before we are too far away and the rain becoming heavier.
"Someone her.........ordered......."
"BRING THE TIGER AMULET!NOW!"
"Beware the.....well....beware.....hiss....."
I hold onto my tiger locket praying to GOD to help me and let this tangible memory comfort me while hearing all this.
"Why would you do this?"
"What?"
"Why would he go there?Did I not tell him we should flee?Did I not say there were foes there and that we should hurry?"
"Perhaps he wished to help someone, see if maybe your father was coerced and not leading anyone into anything."
Kiko only looks through me and back to where we rode from."Take us back, now."Kiko says to the horse which has slowed but rides steadily onward.
Kikos voice then turns somehow to silk and she speaks again
"Take us back,NOW."
The mount bucks hard,it cries in pain, turning hard and running at full speed.Black and red,ink and blood running down it's eyes.
"Takahira San......do not be fooled......"a voice laughs in the wind, mingling with the hissing blood I hear again.
