Chapter 13:

Abomination

God Games

Everyone was watching a single side of their camp, seeing if any abominations were approaching, the strong warning from the goddess a constant reminder of the doom that could face them if they even let go for a split second.

A minute passes with nothing in sight until the ground starts to shake violently, making Ayuri lose her balance and topple over. The ground itself became like an earthquake as they quickly planted their feet firmly into the dirt.

it's beginning

“Make sure to cover your side; we can't keep our guard down,” Howi shouts out.

The sun above stared down at them. From the east, the moon emerges; despite it being midday, it seems to be clashing roughly with the sun's rays, the sky turning to warm orange and faint bluish and white colours separating the two skies. They both try to overpower each other to no avail.

The moon continues to rise further upwards before planting itself right above them as well. Just like the sun, they both were the same size, side by side, blaring down a multitude of colours that split the sky into two sides.

Day and night became irrelevant; it has become both.

How are the moon and sun right beside each other? The sun is way further back than the moon and also way bigger.

Toki tries to reason with logic. The size difference, their distances and the power of each were completely different in his world; however, in the god games, logic could be thrown out when it comes to deities that seek to win and be entertained.

Are we in a different realm altogether?

The two space objects begin to clash together; the sky mixes with the orange and light hues, causing a pale yellow and silver to spread throughout. There were no stars whatsoever in this world, but there was a meteor shower during this clash, emerging from various spots within the sky out of thin air.

They all look in amazement at the sight before them, the meteor shower giving a beautiful contrast to the mixture of colours with its fiery blaze descending towards the world.

Shina’s face remained neutral, scanning the sky, identifying how many meteors were descending. "There are over a hundred, that's for sure."

Her words cause a spark of fear to appear within the group's amazed expressions; at every angle, anywhere they would look, there was a meteor falling.

After a couple of minutes had passed, the meteors started to land, the first wave after the next. Most of them were kilometres away, but their impact could be heard. Each member was making sure to track their surroundings and how much had landed nearby.

I've counted twenty so far,

As waves hit down the world, soon after, the sky turned back to its pale yellow and silver glow, splitting the sky into

Ayuri being first to announce her count, “thirty-two”

Hiwo nods “thirty-two,”

“I saw twenty-eight, but let's assume thirty-two just to be sure.”

They all look down at Shina, who does not respond verbally; instead, she subtly nods before making a suggestion.

"Let's stick together." Her voice was quiet; even with his world-changing event taking its place, her cold demeanour would remain.

thirty-two possible entities could attack us at any moment, from any direction. Using my spear and Shina, the possibility of us dying to these shouldn’t be too difficult, since they are basically one-shot kills.

An hour passed with nothing approaching them; they felt occasional gazes from the forests or heard sounds in the distance like they were hunting but couldn't find anything to satisfy the urging hunger. Animals also roared from the forest.

It was home, according to the guidebook, to birds of all kinds, deer, boars and many other creatures, which shouted out their displeasure at the impending monstrosities that were killing them.

“Everyone look towards the forest.” Ayuri energetically points at the forest she was watching; her fingers were slightly trembling as her eyes were fully open, and her legs shook rapidly, taking in the sight before her.

Toki rushing to her side instantly puts a firm hand on her shoulder before she closes her orange eyes and turns towards Toki to gain any sort of comfort.

He looked past her; abominations was an understatement for what he saw. It was a four-legged creature; it had a brown and purple body colour scheme; its four limbs were each over two metres in length; it had no eyes, just a black void with a single white dot in the middle, with its beak-shaped face with a purple vicious liquid that was flowing down its sharp teeth.

It was skinny, almost like it was just a skeleton with skin surrounding it. At the bottom of its stomach, there seemed to be an orange beating and pulsing spot that screamed to be their core.

The creature, seeing the group, takes itself out of the dark forest, its four limbs perfectly sunk as it walks towards them like a chameleon, its voided eyes steeped in hunger and the urge to destroy and to consume.

“I will handle this; I haven’t tried this spear yet fully.” Hiwo rushes over to them, taking the front spot towards the creature. He raises the borrowed spear towards it, trying to scare it away; his eyes glance around towards the beating spot and towards its four limbs that could at any moment lunge.

The creature approaches closer and closer, now within five metres of Hiwo. It looked at him with a vacant look. Was it thinking or even knowing where it was other than thinking about killing this person in its way? Nobody knew.

Hiwo, not taking any chances despite trembling, runs towards the creature, his spear point forward in a flexible position, knowing that if he blocks with the spear, it should harm itself. The creature, seeing the attempt at an attack, jumps at least double the height of Hiwo above him, trying to squash him underneath.

Instinctively, Hiwo positions his spear up towards the orange beating part and hopes it will kill him. The creature, looking down at the spear, decides to sway itself upwards using its back legs as support to dodge the attack towards its core.

“What?” Hiwo exclaims in surprise.

The creature having dashed to the side, taking in Hiwo’s threatening gaze, starts to rapidly rush at him. He puts his spear up to protect himself from the oncoming approach as the creature swings its arm straight at him while using the other three as support.

Its hits connect, causing Hiwo to stagger backwards, grunting in pain. He looks back up towards the arm that hit. It was dissipating from the spear. The creature, seeing its own arm slowly vanishing, decides it's useless before biting it off with ease, causing the rest of the body to remain intact.

Their battle had just begun as another abomination hearing the commotion started to approach from within the forest. Curiously analysing the battle, Shina noticed the second one running to intercept it to prevent Hiwo from being in an unwinnable battle.
