Chapter 17:

Breaking Into Government Buildings for the Good of the World

Tales From Lion City

Terrence and Mateo stood in front of the Lion City office of affairs. A big monument at the top left of the city. A walled building only accessible through a large metal gate, and within would be the grand building, held up by grand columns cut from the finest stone other countries had to offer. Closed to the public, but between the wall and columns were several armed guards. As Terrence observed a few meters away to not look suspicious, he noticed every guard had a basic pistol. Inside was probably someone with a better weapon, but there was a real chance they could make a run for the buildings interior.

"Okay, good chance we could run for it." Terrence said to Mateo, sitting in a cafe across the building, sipping a water bottle. Terrence nodded in the direction of the office, but it didn't seem he was actually nodding at anything in particular.

"I mean, we could probably find somewhere else." Mateo said as he sat from his chair.

"No, no." Terrence said calmly. "I am almost certain these guys would hide a body in there. But, they'd probably bail us out afterwards. Because they can't have two players in jail."

The two put on the masks Ines gave them and walked up to the building. They circled the perimeter until they found a spot that didn't have as many guards, to the left of the building. Terrence looked at the wall, trying to figure a way to scale it, and figuring out in real time he was incredibly unprepared to raid a government building. Mateo put his fist against the wall, and a white glove was quickly forming around his hand. He breathed in, mouthed a silent prayer to himself, and punched the wall.

A crack formed in the wall, and a second punch made a hole big enough for them to walk through. Terrence crawled in before Mateo, looking around to see if anyone had noticed.

"Intruders at the west wall!"

Terrence just sprinted after hearing that message, and Mateo quickly dashed after him. The sounds of guns cocking rang into his ear, increasing in intensity with each one heard. As they approached the door, a gunshot was heard. And on instinct, Mateo swung his fist forward. The bullet hit off the energy around his hand, ricocheting into the sign of the cafe he was just at. But there was no time to apologize, the two just ran inside.

They ran around until the sounds of footsteps died down. Now, all they had to deal with was avoiding footsteps whenever they came up. Terrence had his phone up, looking at a map of the buildings interior. If he were to guess, the main places the bodies could be stored would either be the basement's meeting halls or the head office. The stairs to the office were closer, therefore they go there first.

They made their way through the hallways, all as pristine as the buildings exterior, perfectly polished, adorned with expensive looking vases. As they went through the hallways, the two hid in a storage closest until the incoming footsteps got quieter. But just as the guard was in front, he said something into his walkie talkie.

"A tied up body at the head office? You not free them?"

They were on the right track! They crept throughout the halls until they were around the office.

It took a few seconds for anyone to notice them, as they were all staring at the tied up girl on top of the mayor's desk. The girl was screaming her lungs out under the tape, and several guards were clearly concerned if she was gonna suffocate if this kept up. One tried untying her, but his hands slipped off the rope before he could make a dent in the knot. When Terrence walked in, a guard aimed his gun directly at his face.

"Wait!" He screamed, panting heavily. "Let me try!"

He burst across the small room to the girl. He was able to untie her without much issue, leaving the blonde girl free to let her real feelings out.

"Okay, what the actual shit is going on here?" She said, pure venom breaking through her otherwise ditzy accent. "I was in my room until I get blinded and wake up in my mom's office? And some bank robber looking dipshit saves me? What is going on?!"

"Okay, did you hear a voice of whoever captured you?" Terrence asked quickly, touching a table which collapsed right away, startling him. "Or like, any clue where they live?"

"By the time I realized what was happening I was here." The girl said through squinted eyes filled with hate. "I don't know shit. Now then, I'm calling my mom, and everyone in this room paid to be here is to protect me until she gets here. Got it?"

"Yes!" Everyone except Terrence and Mateo yelled out.

While Terrence and Mateo ran out of the room, another guard was on his walkie-talkie.

"What you mean, someone's tied up downstairs? How does that even happen?"

Mateo dashed downstairs, jumping at the last few to the bottom and barely avoiding crushing a guard.

As he ran downstairs, he crunched his face into a grim frown. When the door opened, all guards got out of the way as he untied the business man, who looked around and left without saying a word.

'Mateo Gaspar has passed.'

Mateo ran out as soon as the announcement was made, and Terrence followed shortly after.

"We made it out." Was all Terrence said. Even under the mask, he was frazzled. He stood like he was shot, to the point Mateo had to double check he wasn't. Until like a robot activating its emergency programming, he jolted back to life, patted Mateo on the shoulder, and started acting like himself again.

"Alright team!" He yelled out. "We did good today! Let's keep up the momentum!"

Terrence got into a casual stride as he walked back to his house. Mateo didn't have the money for a trip back, so he just followed along in the hopes he'd be allowed to crash with Terrence.
