Chapter 8:
The Hero Has No Interest in The Girls in His Party
By the time the group found a small nearby village, the sun had set and streets beginning to empty. Thankfully the village had a small combined inn and restaurant. They sat down for a dinner in the restaurant after asking for several vacant rooms. One room for Kiwi who demanded that Royals do not share bedrooms. One room for Blueberry, Pear, and Avocado to share, and one for Terry and Poato.
When asking for the rooms Terry realized he had no idea how money in this world worked. He had his wallet on him but he doubted this world took bank cards. Having no other choice, he asked Kiwi to pay for the rooms. Kiwi was insulted by Terry’s request and stated “I am their future Queen; they should just give us the rooms.”
Thankfully before she could make her demands to the staff Pear came forward with a small pouch of various coins. She used a gold coin to pay for the rooms and three bronze coins to pay to dinner.
As the group sat in the restaurant and waited for their meal, Terry thanked Pear. “Thank you, Pear. I promise to pay you back later.” Pear smiled “It’s quite alright,” she said, “I think all of us could use some rest and a good meal.”
At that moment an employee can to their table and started passing them bowls of stew. Everyone started eating except Terry. Terry inspected the contents of the bowl. It looked like a regular bowl of beef stew like ones he would eat back home, but this was a world with magic and demons. Terry wondered if the meat was beef or some other kind of creature that he hadn’t yet seen.
“Is everything alright sir?” The employee asked. Terry shook his head and quickly took a bite of the stew. He chewed the meat and swallowed quickly. “No, thank you. It’s delicious.” He said, “If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of stew is this?” The employee looked at Terry confused, “It’s beef stew sir.” Terry nodded his head feeling silly for a moment before he went back to eating.
As he ate, he looked around the table at the others eating. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals, even Potato had a bowel of stew in front of him he was happily eating. Terry wondered how no one around them questioned why a squirrel was sitting with their group or why it was eating beef stew.
He decided there were more pressing matters to attend to. “Potato, tomorrow morning I need you to teach both me and Kiwi those advance magic spells you were talking about earlier,” Everyone at the table looked at him like he had suddenly sprouted a second head until Kiwi broke the silence. “Excuse you, I don’t need to learn anything.”
Terry thought back to Kiwi’s pitiful fireball spell she demonstrated earlier that day. “We both really should learn more magic if we want to defeat the Demon Lord.” He said, he hoped that by include himself that the princess would be more willing to join in the training. Three powerful magic users would be far more helpful then two.
Kiwi wrinkled her nose, “Don’t lump me in with you, ‘Hero’.”
Terry huffed, “Okay, fine, keep being useless.”
Kiwi glared at Terry. She hosted up her staff and swung it at his head. Terry ducked and the head of the staff slammed into the wall behind him. As it hit the wall the blue jewel that sat in the center of the staff popped out and fell to the floor. It rolled towards Terry’s foot and he laughed at Kiwi.
“If you fight demons like how you fight me you really should reconsider that training with me and Potato.” He said as he reached out for the gem. Before he could touch it, a hand smacked his away. Terry pulled back his hand and looked at who had just hit him, it was Pear.
Pear picked the jewel off the floor and looked at Terry with serious expression. She walked over to Kiwi who had pulled back her staff and held the head out for Pear as she placed the Jewel back into its place. “You really should be more careful with the Produce Stone.” Her voice just above a whisper. Kiwi waved her off.
“If you’re done upsetting everyone tonight, Hero, I’m going to bed. Hopefully you can learn some manners by morning.” Kiwi left the room with Blueberry and avocado closely behind till it was just Terry, Potato, and Pear still at the dinner table. Pear turned back to Terry with a faint smile on her face. Terry expected her to explain what just happened but she simple said Goodnight and walked away.
