Chapter 10:

What's The Plan For The Day?

The Hero Has No Interest in The Girls in His Party

Terry woke the next morning to a blond squirrel hunched over his face peering down at him. “Good morning, Hero.” Potato sang, “Hoped you had a restful sleep last night and are ready to face the day.”

Terry groaned and rolled over in the bed. Gently pushing Potato back as he pulled the covers over his face. Terry had never really been a morning person. He wasn’t a night owl either, he just really enjoyed sleeping. However, if he was hoping for a few more minutes of sleep, Potato wasn’t going to give it to him.

Potato climbed up on Terry’s head and began to pat at him with his tiny paws. “Up and at them Hero. We’ve got a big day planed. You need to tell everyone your plan for getting us ready to fight the Demon Lord.”

Terry groaned again. He had completely forgotten that he needed to get everyone in shape to fight. “Alright, I’m up already. Is everyone else?”

“They will be shortly.” Potato replied as he hopped down from the bed and onto the floor. He scampered over to the door, “You can head down to the restaurant and meet everyone there.”

Once everyone was up and sitting at the same table they sat at last night, Terry recognized the dent in the wall from where Kiwi’s staff had hit the wall, called everyone to attention. “All right everyone, hoped you slept well because we have big plans today, take it away Hero.” Potato gestured to him like he was a show host.

Terry ran his fingers through his hair, “Thank you, Potato. Okay everyone, I’ve thought about what we really need to focus on and I made list.” Terry pulled out a paper he had worked on before everyone else had gotten up and came to the restaurant. He was glade that the woman who ran the front of the inn lent him some extra paper, pen, and ink. He needed to remember to give her a tip before the group left the village.

Kiwi held up the paper between her thumb and forefinger and wrinkled her nose. “What even is this?” she asked. “The list I made. The one I just told you about.” Terry responded. Everyone looked at the paper in confusion. “Do you guys need me to read it to you?” He asked, he wasn’t trying to sound rude, but with the way they were looking at the note he started to wonder if they really couldn’t read it.

Blueberry shook her head, “No, that’s not necessary, it’s just we don’t really understand it. What do you mean, ‘make Blueberry brave?’”

“Yeah,” Avocado piped up, “And what do mean by, ‘make Avocado stop?’”

Terry took back the paper and started to go over each item on the list one at a time. “One, Make Blueberry brave. During that whole fight you stood there shacking in your boots. We need to build up your confidence and experience in battle.” Terry said looking at Blueberry. Blueberry’s face turned red and she looked at the ground. Terry felt a little bad for embarrassing her but he really couldn’t have her freeze in a fight like last time.

Terry turned his attention to Avocado. “Two, make Avocado stop. You ran off to start a fight with out even stopping to assess the situation.”

Avocado held out her arms, “but there was a demon right in front of us, was I not supposed to fight it?” she snapped.

“Do you remember what happened when you tried to fight that demon?” Terry asked. Avocado looked like she was thinking for a moment before smiling and said, “I punched it.”

Terry gave her a pointed look and pointed at her, “Restraint, you need to hold back until we say you can fight.” Avocado pouted and crossed her arms but Terry continued. “This next one is for me and Pear. Three, learn shield spell.” He included Kiwi in the list too but he figured at this point she wasn’t going to willingly join in anything he had to say. “Four is clothes, we need armor.”

“We already have clothes though, and armor.” Avocado said as she pulled at the front of her thick top. Terry had to agree that some of them were dress well enough for traveling. Both Avocado and Blueberry wore decent clothes that appeared easy to move in and seemed to have some form of light armor in their appeal. However, Kiwi and Pear were both wearing dresses and he was still wearing the lounge clothes he had been summoned in. “The rest of us need clothes that are better suited for fighting, especially me.” He said as he pulled at his grey sweat shirt.

“And last item on the list, five, we need money. We can’t have Pear pay for everything for us.” Kiwi scoffed, “Is the Hero really suggesting we get jobs, like we are commoners.”

“Maybe the Princess of Kalabash would like to donate some money to help defeat the Demon Lord?” Terry joked. Kiwi looked anger and opened her mouth but Avocado slammed her hands down on the Table. “Wait! I know how to make money!” She smiled and ran off with out the group once again.
