Chapter 59:

Death

The Devourer of Destiny

During the battle, there was no mercy, let alone restraint. They clashed with power, they clashed with swords, until they tore down layer after layer of the Upper Realm. They fell to the final layer with feelings other than hatred present.

The gaze of anger, hatred, and full of vengeance was indeed very clear on their faces. Especially the Archangel's. However, another feeling grew between them and made the situation awkward.

The moments when the power of the Devourer Destiny—the ancient spell that had become incredibly strong—was cast. A black stain appeared on the Archangel's white face, and after a panicked expression, a smile formed.

It was not an expression of happiness but of deep sadness.

Mahendra realized it too late, until finally the Archangel fell on top of him. Fell into his embrace.

"Wait... wait... wait... what was that?"

His breath was still ragged, and with trembling hands, he slowly embraced the winged body. But before he could do so, the Archangel's body vanished.

Only a single white feather was left, which landed on Mahendra's body.

"Dead... so you died after all, huh? Archangel?"

Mahendra immediately got up from there, storing the single feather inside his body. The fire moved out of his way as if bowing in fear. The wind stopped as if time had ceased. Mahendra walked with quick steps, approaching the strongest legends who were at the entrance of the Upper Realm.

His brow was furrowed, his eyebrows nearly meeting, and his teeth were clenched. That expression showed how very angry he was.

Mahendra pulled the cream scarf that covered the Wandering King's neck. His gaze was very sharp, and when he started to speak in a high tone, everyone fell silent.

There, Mahendra unleashed his deepest anger until his eyes became watery, tears pooling beneath them.

No one answered. They were all silent because they didn't know what to say. Especially the Wandering King who was getting a wild outburst from a boy; his face was flat as if he had no feelings at all.

After a long time of curses coming out of Mahendra's mouth, the release of anger wasn't enough, and now a punch came. Hitting the Wandering King's face still didn't make Mahendra feel much better, until he was exhausted.

His energy was already quite drained from fighting the 11 supreme gods alone, not to mention the God of Emptiness who used many laws of power, which had a fatal impact on the body of the Devourer Destiny now.

Plus, his battle with the Archangel. The power of absolute light was indeed a worthy rival to face the Devourer Destiny's power. Despite winning, his body and soul were damaged, and severely so.

Mahendra's eyes began to glaze over, and as he was about to throw another punch, his body swayed. The Wandering King quickly to hold Mahendra—the unfortunate boy's chin rested on his shoulder so he wouldn't fall.

The Wandering King sighed for a moment and muttered softly, "I don't know if you were afraid of dying at her hands again... or if you were afraid of killing her like the first time."

The Upper Realm was now in complete chaos. The traces of this battle would not easily disappear. The other remaining parts of the Upper Realm were only for the residence of the lesser gods and others.

It seemed that the special room of the holy seer was also affected. A large enough cut had sliced through a part of its wall, leaving only half.

"The Seer who was in your way has been removed, Devourer Destiny," said the seer prophet who was now completely different from before.

One day, one night in the Southeast Region. The next morning.

In a state of confusion, shock, and with a blank mind, he woke up in a room. After a while, he realized his body felt a little strange. He thought it was not good to stay in this room for too long.

Then Mahendra left when he realized someone was about to enter. The Nephilim who was carrying fruits in a food bag was startled for a moment as he stared at the empty room.

Mahendra's departure was not without reason. Ever since he first entered the Upper Realm, his body had been experiencing something strange, but he only realized it when he was injured.

The familiar scent of a characteristic city. A dense population and many friendly people. Mahendra walked unsteadily in a semi-conscious state. If someone hadn't approached and helped him, Mahendra would have fallen there.

"Sir, are you okay?" a girl asked. She tried to support him, even though her height made it difficult.

"I'm fine," Mahendra replied.

The girl seemed to realize something when she heard the man speak. She then led him slowly to a quiet and secluded place.

Mahendra sat down, propping his hand on his chin. His eyes were closed for a moment before he could finally look at the person who had just helped him.

She was a girl with short brown hair. Her clothes were made of some animal skin, and she wore quality leather armor.

"Mi?" Mahendra called. "You're a bit taller than before now," he added.

"So it's really you. Wow, I didn't expect us to meet again. Oh yeah... I heard you're the Devourer Destiny? This is truly unexpected."

This was the Southeast Region, the city of Gurkha. Mahendra coincidentally met Mi, an old friend with whom he had adventured 10 years ago. Although it was only for a short time and an unexpected incident occurred.

Mi told him that news from the Upper Realm had spread to all regions, even to the most remote areas. The Upper Realm was in complete chaos, and many people were hoping for a change in the world order.

Honestly, Mi was still the same. She didn't believe in the "Devourer Destiny" fairy tale, because she thought someone born like that was an impossibility. However, when she met him, she was amazed.

"You defeated the 11 supreme gods. You even fought the angelic race. Anyone would feel that their old dreams would be realized," said Mi, who then sat down beside him.

"They are just humans with powers beyond the limits. Why be surprised if someone can defeat them?"

"It's easy for you to say that, future king." Mi snorted with a smile.

"Future king?" Mahendra asked in confusion.

"You are a fairy tale that has come true. You've brought chaos to the Upper Realm and can even defeat gods. Moreover, you have the power to defy destiny."

Mi kept smiling, she looked at Mahendra with sparkling eyes.

She added, "Be a king for us."

Mahendra just shook his head, thinking it was the most ridiculous idea ever.

"Forget it. I want to know your opinion on 'Emptiness,' do you have any thoughts about this word?" Mahendra asked.

"Emptiness is emptiness... boredom... nothingness... well, like there's nothing interesting," Mi answered bluntly. She said everything she was thinking.

Mahendra smiled faintly when he heard the answer. It sounded reasonable.

"Why are you suddenly asking that? Oh, does this have something to do with the Upper Realm? Someone you fought?" Mi guessed.

Mahendra nodded and said, "Yeah, something like that. I suddenly feel very empty... bored like you said."

"Bored of what?"

"Fighting strong people, even though I also fought them with great difficulty, although in the end I won. I feel like I'm not growing." He said this while remembering his future self who had appeared before.

"Hmm... in that case, why not just fight the weak?"

"Isn't that the same? Even fighting someone weaker than me would mean they would easily die at my hands."

"Then suppress your power. Who knows, you might feel a difference."

Mahendra nodded and then snapped his fingers, and a spatial portal appeared.

"What is this?" Mi asked, surprised.

"We have the same ancestor. You wanted to meet him before, right? So I will take you to his place," he revealed.

Mi felt like she would never stop being amazed. Without thinking twice, she immediately entered the portal.

"This is your reward, Mi. Thank you," Mahendra said.
