Chapter 36:
Morgenstern - Morning Star - Ake No Myōjō - 明けの明星
Before I even realized the nature of the cataclysm that had just obliterated my home of almost two decades, along with my family and friends, I found myself in a familiar white void.
But this time, I was alone.
In the not-air before me hovered a reminder of the last ace up my sleeve.
//========= Mother of Learning - A Tier ==========
Set up to four save points. Costs 90% of current exp at the time of save point creation. Loading reduces Classes, Skills, and Stats, as well as the respective points of the user back to the prior level.
//========================================
Alongside it were my other Blessings:
//======== Know Your Enemy - B Tier ===========
Shows information about your Target, including details on Level, Classes, Skills, and Stats. You lose 5% total exp, if your Level is below that of your Target.
//========================================
//====== Monkey See, Monkey Do - C Tier ========
For any of your own Classes, unlock any Skill you know the details of. Lose 5% total exp on any such Skill unlock. Leveling up Skills Unlocked in such a way requires 3 times the regular amount of points.
//========================================
//========= Jack of All Trades - C Tier ===========
Unlock any priorly encountered Classes you know the details of. Lose 25% total exp on each Class unlock. Leveling up Classes Unlocked in such a way requires 3 times the regular amount of points.
//========================================
//========= Carved in Stone - E Tier ============
Immune to everything that steals or reduces Classes, Skills, or Stats and their respective points. Leveling up Classes, Skills, or Stats requires 500% of the regular amount of points.
//========================================
//===== For the Good of The Many - E Tier ========
Use your own Class, Skill, or Stat Points to unlock or increase the Level of another entity’s Classes, Skills, or Stats.
//========================================
‘Mother of Learning’ on its own was a somewhat broken, but ultimately very restricted skill. The side effects alone did justify its low classification as A Tier. Without them, it would be justifiably the most broken SSS Tier Blessing available.
‘Carved in Stone’ in turn was useless on the first look, justifiably E Tier.
But it not only turned ‘Mother of Learning’ in a category of its own, it even enhanced other almost useless Blessings into godly status.
‘Know Your Enemy’, ‘Monkey See, Monkey Do’, and ‘Jack of All Trades’ with infinite points, all lost most of their downsides.
‘For the Good of The Many’ in turn enabled me to share this blessing with selected others.
The gods might be idiots, but at least the System itself was true to the letter of the law.
Why was I so calm in the face of my demise and the loss of my entire family?
Because I had used ‘Know Your Enemy’ on the blonde bombshell whose colleagues had put my other worldly self down like a rabid dog. This has been the source of a few of my possible classes. One of them being ‘Envoy’ with its ‘Soul Catcher’ and ‘Vessel Creation’.
There were others, but Envoy on its own was expensive enough as it was. I had, at this point, spent the equivalent of about 500 years worth of regular Experience points into it. This was more than twenty lifetimes worth of regular leveling grind for a high ranking adventurer.
Has it been worth it?
Every single point.
I took one last look at my status:
//========================================
// Hero - Lvl. 42 - Grey Morgenlicht
…
// Stats:
Physical Power 9001
Physical Resist 9013
Special Power 9661
Special Resist 9643
Status Power 9643
Status Resist 9173
Random Power 9181
Random Resist 8999
// Familiar: Tia
//========================================
Even if any of the ‘gods’ were trying to intervene, I could probably take them head on by now.
Not that any number mattered.
Defeating a single Level 50+ monster as a Level 0-10 entity resulted in a windfall of points. An unending filling horn so to speak.
Now I just had to find the souls of my family and our pets and then reload with them in tow.
Easier said than done. They were somewhere in there, with the billions of captured human and monster souls with ties left to the world.
All scooped up in whatever eliminated the planet.
But I had all the time in the void.
