Chapter 32:
Fantastical Rebirth
Orca leaps from afar, aiming for Draco, who dodges the landing, which destroys everything in a massive radius. He fires the harpoon at the beast, who grabs it and pulls the old man closer. The harpoon electrifies, stunning Orca. I leap behind Draco and kick him with both legs, pushing him toward the orc's fist, which connects with his face and releases a massive shockwave.
Both are sent in opposite directions. Draco wipes his bleeding nose.
Draco: "So you can't hold off on your own? Don't worry, I can hunt other beasts too."
He puts away the harpoon gun and summons a large golden spear. He hurls it at Orca, piercing his stomach. The spear stops in midair and returns, piercing his leg. The spear stops again as I strike it with my sword, but nothing happens. It flies toward Orca, who grabs it, but flies away with it.
He summons his harpoon again and aims it at Nebula. Burier picks up a rock from the ground and throws it at him with impressive speed, distracting him briefly, long enough for Nebula to jump out of the away. He aims the gun at me and fires instantly, leaving me just enough time to dash to the side.
The harpoon retracts and he fires again, giving me no time to react. Orca grabs the projectile and tries to throw it back, but the electricity stuns and burns him instantly. The golden spear returns, aiming for me.
D steps in front of me, both wings protecting his body. The projectile slows down, but still pierces his body. The harpoon retracts, and Draco fires it again, hitting D. Nebula leaps and pushes me away. The entire place is electrified. A bolt of lightning strikes from the sky, striking D and stunning us all.
We try to move, but all we can do is watch Draco, unfazed by his own electricity, approach Orca and stab him in the heart with the golden spear. The orc slowly rises and punches Draco with impressive strength.
His body is thrown through the air and across a mountain range, while Orca grows faster and stronger, throwing him from one mountain to another until they stop fighting. We slowly rise to our feet, trying to determine who won. Orca returns with one of Draco's arms and collapses to the ground, exhausted.
Orca: "He escaped... I'm sorry I couldn't be of much help, my masters..."
Nebula: "Is he coming back...?"
Sun: "He just lost an arm... I think we can get some rest..."
Burier: "The orc... he's dead."
Nebula: "What about D...?"
Burier approaches the burned body and examines it for life.
Burier: "He's gone..."
Sun: "What...? You can't be serious..."
Nebula: "I couldn't heal him... I'm sorry..."
Sun: "He can't be dead, right...? He's survived this far..."
Burier: "I'm sorry, but... there's nothing I can do..."
Sun: "You can revive him, right, Nebula...?"
Nebula: "I'm sorry, but... even with my maximum mana, it's too expensive to revive someone..."
Sun: "Then we just need to... wait a minute..."
Nebula: "We can think about what to do later... or we might die of exhaustion..."
Sun: "The Lich! He can revive the dead!"
Nebula: "The Hero...? Was that your plan when you said Shizuru could come back?"
Sun: "Not exactly, but... this works too."
Burier: "Not necessarily. Necromancy is summoning the undead. Do you want them to return as zombies?"
Sun: "There's still a slight chance... that his soul will come back to his body."
Burier: "That's impossible. Their souls are not in this world anymore. It was a miracle that it happened to you."
Sun: "Are you sure...?"
Burier: "I'm sorry, young masters, but as you know, I can sense souls. D, the orc, your parents... they're all dead forever.""
Sun: "Really...?"
Burier: "I'm sorry..."
Sun: "No, it's not your fault... I just feel weird..."
Nebula: "I can heal you, but..."
Sun: "I don't mean only physically. I just can't cry. Our family is dead, but I can't feel much of anything."
Nebula: "We are exhausted, of course it'd affect our mind."
Sun: "I've always been like this... I never really cared about my family or friends. Or anything. I only cared about this world and my characters, but I feel no remorse or sadness even now."
Nebula: "You haven't found yourself yet, brother. You're not a bad person."
Sun: "I'm no good either... I've been lying to you all this time, Burier. I'm not Sun. I'm not your young master."
Burier: "An enemy...?"
Nebula: "He's not our enemy. Trust me, Burier, please."
Sun: "No, I might be your enemy... Since I got here, you all died many times. I died many times. We all lost. I am an anomaly. That's why Burier's spell should have worked. I should have left this world."
Nebula: "That's not true, brother. Mitsurugi wasn't your creation, right? The world was already a mess before you arrived. You were brought here to save us."
Sun: "Save you? I've been trying to save my ass this whole time and I still failed. I'm no hero. Not even an anti-hero. I'm a straight up villain."
Burier: "What have you done to my young master?"
Nebula: "Calm down, Burier, please! He's having self-doubts, but he's not a villain!"
Sun: "I'm so sorry... for everything I've done... I can't save you guys. I can't defeat Mitsurugi."
Nebula: "Of course you can! You come back stronger every time!"
Sun: "What if I run out of extra lives? I'd just have you killed for no reason."
Nebula: "You didn't kill yourself this time. That means you're not dying just to change the past! You're not killing us!"
Sun: "Even so... if I were stronger, sacrifices wouldn't be necessary."
Nebula: "Then we need to join forces! You created the Heroes, right? Let's ask them for help!"
Sun: "And have more unnecessary deaths?"
Nebula: "Unnecessary? They risk their lives all the time. They're prepared to die. Besides, Mitsurugi will destroy the entire world if we don't stop her."
Sun: "But..."
Nebula: "You're too busy thinking about individual lives. Think about the big picture. Save as many people as possible with as little sacrifice as possible. But making no sacrifices means nothing if everyone dies!"
