Chapter 15:
Dragon's Laud
Cooked fish over an open fire does taste pretty good. Unless you burn it then its just plan crunchy. I look to my left at Sheldon wondering if she is truly sleeping or not. Near the entrance, Dre is on his back passed out with Pearl sleeping on his rising and falling stomach. Olive is off to the right side of Guy and Guy is still to my right. I go back to my slightly crunchy fish. I'm thinking a bowl of rice would taste wonderful right now.
"Aack!" Guy shouts throwing his arms out infront of him as he falls backwards into the dirt.
Sheldon, Olive and I jerk to look at him. Then I juggle my fish before it hits the floor. Olive and Sheldon are on their feet ready for a fight. Only for no fight to be present.
"What was that for?!" Sheldon demands.
"Sorry, that's how I wake up." Guy says smiling while scratching the back of his head.
"Good to know." I say a bit salty. My fish is in pieces in my hands.
Pearl and Dre are still passed out. Sheldon tries to get comfortable again on my old shirt that she claimed as hers for the night. Olive lays back down crossing her front claws and partially closes her eyes. She looks elegant with her nose bowed and horns high. Guy struggles but manages to sit back up.
"Welp." Guy says slapping his knees. "Time for me to go."
"Just like that? You help save my life, take a nap and now leave?" I ask.
"He can go." Sheldon mumbles. I quickly glance over at her than back to Guy.
"You have a few questions." Guy says rocking back and forth trying to get up.
"Well yea. You said I will find my way back to Sonja's house in a week? Will there be any more dragons along the way?" I ask. "Or dangers? I don't really like fighting wildlife in general and this world has proven to be scarier."
"Ahhh." Guy says as he stops rocking. "You will find two new dragons to fight along side you. As for dangers. The biggest ones are being taken care of."
"Taken care of?" I ask baffled by what he means.
"Oh uh um." Guy stumbles over his words. "Let me tell you what dragons will be accompanying you. You will need to find these dragons before going back to your girl friend's house."
"Not my girlfriend!"
"Yea yea. Dragons are ancient water, magestic mountain healer, savanna drake, secluded swamp, eternal earth, dark forest and eternal fire." Guy says holding up his fingers.
I do the math and thats three more dragons not two.
"Eternal fire?" Olive asks. "Like thee one and only eternal fire."
"Yea that guy!" Says guy.
"Who is thee eternal fire?" I ask slightly concerned for my safety.
"Only one of the most feared dragons besides Tundra. No human has been able to tame or slay him. I heard even Gilton and Tundra tried slaying him." Explains Sheldon. "Every battle ends in a draw. That's what I overheard all the fishermen say."
"And we are supposed to walk up to this fierce dragon and nicely ask him to join us?" I ask.
"Pretty much." Guy says with a smile.
Olive's facial expression is one of concern. Sheldon looks more irritated than normal. While I'm overwhelmed with nearly dying and Guy wants me to walk into certain death.
"Let's set that to the side for a moment." I say placing an imaginary box into the fire. Then start counting on my fingers. "Anceint water, I'm assuming that is you Sheldon?"
"That is my lineage. My family is the keeper of the seas." She nods. Before I continue on.
"Magestic mountain healer is Pearl. Who has healing powers and wasn't allowed off her mountain due to humans hunting them. Savanna drake is Dre. He hasn't said much about his past yet. Secluded swamp is you Olive?"
Olive nods. "Yes there has never been very many of us. We will travel through rivers here and there but not often. Humans rarely bother us since we stay away from them. Our powers and strength are not the most desirable either. In the neighboring kingdom, one swamp did have a whole village on sticks above it. The people there worked together with the other swamp dragons. The dragons would fish and the humans would help pick off parasites. Along with clean debris from the river before it flowed into the swamp. That was a nice village."
"That does sound nice. Do you want to go back there?" I ask.
"If Tundra and Gilton haven't recked it. My family and I moved on when we heard they were near. But yes, I would enjoy going back there." Olive's eyes are a bit on the sad side.
My heart breaks for her. Part of me wishes I could help her with seeing a place like that again. A house on sticks above a swamp sounds interesting.
"I will do what I can for you Olive." I tell her.
"Thank you Ragon." Olive says bowing her head.
"You're welcome." I say then look at my four fingers. "Water, healing, Dre, swamp. That leaves earth, forest and a mean fire dude. I knew you listed one more than two!" I look toward Guy but he is missing.
I scan the cave. Even Olive and Sheldon look around.
"That old guy got the slip on us!" I bellow.
"Who you calling old?!" I hear Guy laughing a dry laugh outside. It slowly fades off into the distance.
"Heyyyy he's finally gone. Now I can finally sleep." Sheldon says curling up on my shirt beside the fire.
Olive looks at her gently and I lay down beside Sheldon. I watch her snooze away.
"She was up for three days making sure Guy didn't harm any of us." Olive says quietly.
I look at them both in shock. And Olive just nods.
"Sheldon barely rested while you were sick. She didn't wonder far from the cave either. You two are close." Olive smiles.
"I wouldn't say close close. We only met a few days ago. She was injured by a Gilton and Tundra raid. I helped her get to the ocean to heal but found her family frozen along with the village near by. It made me so angry that I swore to her that I will do what it takes to bring Gilton down and for her to bring Tundra down." I say rolling to my back to look at the cave ceiling.
"That would be enough to move most people." Olive says.
"I just can't stand for others hurting animals or others. Especially if they can't fight back." I say. I see a spider move on its web. "You better stay up there Mr. Spider."
"Do you not l like spiders?" Olive asks.
"They creep me out a bit." I inform her. Then the spider drops and is only a few inches from my face hanging by its thin webbing. "To close too close!" I squeal quietly.
Olive giggles then comes over and eats it. EATS IT! I'm squirming at just the thought of a spider in my mouth.
"They are part of my diet silly human." Olive giggles before going back to where she was.
"Good to know." I say shaking the creepy crawly feeling off of me.
