Chapter 1:

The Goddess

The Tower of Marketh

I’m light. In all aspects. I currently weigh next to nothing, and if what I’m seeing, well sensing, is correct, I’m also currently a small ball of flame, floating in darkness.
But even so, I don’t feel any panic. If anything, this is the calmest I’ve felt in months.

Am I dead? Maybe the impact of me fainting caused a brain injury, or I caught my head on something on the way down. Or was it what I fainted from, a disease, sickness? “Okay everyone, that’s enough doom and gloom.” A bright, cheerful voice breaks through, while a large pair of wings unfurl and with a single beat blows away the surrounding darkness.
Many more flames similar to myself have now appeared now that the darkness has dissipated. But what really catches my attention is the source of the voice that just called out. Long silver hair, tall, white skin that practically glows. What I would easily describe as a godd…
“Yes, okay please stop with all this mental panic.” She heaved a large sigh. “Just because you can’t vocalize what you’re thinking doesn’t mean I can’t hear it. I swear it gets louder every time.”
Her gaze sweeps around the room as she stretches. “I thank you all for agreeing to help. That game you all play was sent to your world in order to find willing souls with the skills required to help us in our endeavour."
She slowly floats higher, almost lounging in the air.
“Now, I’m not allowed much time to help or guide you, so I can only give you a quick rundown, the rest you’ll figure out on your own. But, just being chosen means it shouldn’t be hard for you.”
The area around us shakes ever so slightly, which is a strange feeling while floating.
“We’re running out of time, this space won’t last much longer.” She quickly clears her throat. “You will be borrowing the bodies of warriors from our world, treat them properly because even though they aren’t truly yours, anything you feel will be real. Death as well.”
Wait, death?
So if I die here, that’s me dead back in my world?
“Correct, so do try to avoid dying.” She addresses the room, but it still feels aimed at me. “But remember, at the end of it all, I will grant any wish you so desire as thanks for helping us.”
I guess the wish thing was true after all. “Now, you will all be sent into the bodies of the respective classes you picked. And I will watch over your climb.”
Classes we picked? I recall my sign up, all I did was accept it, I never got to pick a class.
“Oh yeah, sorry about that.” She quickly moves in front of me. “We had a drop out right before we were meant to summon everyone, so you are more of a replacement for the previous soul.”
Drop out? Replacement? I’ve been scammed.
“Well anyway heroes, good luck, and I pray for a successful climb of the Tower.” A grin lights up her face as she claps her hands once, and everything goes dark.
